NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (9-3) TO HOST ST. LOUIS RAMS (6-6) AT LOUISIANA SUPERDOME The Saints (9-3) return to the Superdome this Sunday after a two-game road swing with a five-game winning streak to host the Rams (6-6) at 3:05 p.m. CT. New Orleans is coming off a dramatic come-frombehind 34-30 victory at the Cincinnati Bengals. Down by three in the final minutes, the Saints drove to a fourth-and-2 at the Cincinnati seven-yard line with 34 seconds left. New Orleans called a timeout and decided to line up as if they would snap it to try and draw the Bengals offside. It resulted in a neutral zone penalty and on the following play, QB Drew Brees threw a three-yard touchdown pass to WR Marques Colston. Brees finished 24 of 29 for 313 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. The Saints had five plays that went for at least 42 yards. Brees also had a 52- yard touchdown pass to WR Robert Meachem. RB Chris Ivory carried 15 times for 117 yards and two TDs, including a career-long 55-yard score. With a second quarter 52-yard throw to TE Jimmy Graham, Brees surpassed Archie Manning as the club s alltime passing yardage leader. He now has 21,932 passing yards as a Saint. Brees' 21,932 yards with the Saints is the most passing yards by a quarterback over any five-year span in NFL history. The performance marked his 36th 300-yard passing game since 2006, also the most by a player over any five-year period in league annals. The Rams ended their eight-game losing streak to the Cardinals last Sunday with a 19-6 victory in Arizona. The win marked the first time St. Louis had won consecutive road games since November 18, 2007. The win keeps the Rams in a first-place tie with the Seahawks in the NFC West. NEW ORLEANS-ST. LOUIS PREVIEW SAINTS-RAMS SPECIFICS THE COACHES Saints coach Sean Payton has posted a 47-29 regular season record and a 4-1 postseason mark, guiding them to the Super Bowl XLIV championship. He s the lone head coach in club history to open a season with 13 straight wins and post a 13-game winning streak, and has the franchise s top all-time winning percentage (.613). Over this period, the Saints have the best winning percentage in the NFC and are tied for fourth in the NFL. He s also the club s leader in postseason victories. His 23-15 (.605) home record and 24-14 (.632) road mark are the top winning percentages in club record books. Payton has recorded a 36-21 (.632) mark vs. NFC opponents. Since taking over, the Saints have the best record among NFC South teams over that period In 2006, he took the Saints to the NFC Championship and was named the NFL Coach of the Year by most major media outlets. Payton is is only one of two NFL coaches to lead his team to two NFC Championship games since 2006. Payton was hired as New Orleans 14th head coach on January 18, 2006, after serving on the Dallas Cowboys staff from 2003-2005. Prior to joining the Cowboys, Payton served on the New York Giants staff from 1999-2002, including the final three seasons as offensive coordinator. His tenure was highlighted by a Super Bowl berth in his first full season as coordinator. Payton s prior NFL coaching experience came as quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1997-98. St. Louis head coach Steve Spagnuolo is in his second season with the Rams, posting a 7-21 record. He spent two years as defensive coordinator of the New York Giants, including their 2007 Super Bowl champion squad. Spagnuolo started his NFL coaching career as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles defensive staff from 1999-2006. LAST MEETING Nov. 15, 2009: Saints 28, St. Louis 23 @ Edward Jones Dome Despite a furious fourth quarter Rams rally, where they rallied from an 11-point deficit and were driving for a touchdown as time expired, the Saints held on and improved to 9-0 as their nine-game winning streak tied a franchise record. Things started slowly for the Saints as QB Drew Brees had a pass picked off by St. Louis S Oshiomogho Atogwe. The Saints defense stepped up as S Usama Young picked off Rams QB Marc Bulger in the end zone and returned it 24 yards. RB Reggie Bush put the Saints on the scoreboard with a three-yard TD run. A 29- yard scoring pass from Bulger to Rams WR Donnie Avery tied the score but Brees then Bush on a 15-yard touchdown on the next possession. Rams RB Steven Jackson tied the game at 14-14 with a two-yard TD run with 55 seconds left in the half. The Saints retook the lead for good on the second half's opening kickoff which WR Courtney Roby returned 97 yards for a score. A 32-yard field goal by Rams K Josh Brown put the Rams back within four points at 21-17. On a possession that carried over into the fourth quarter, Brees found WR Robert Meachem for a 27-yard touchdown to push the New Orleans advantage to 28-17 with 12:15 remaining. Bulger found Avery for another touchdown and he led the Rams to the New Orleans 32 on their final possession before time ran out. HISTORY The Saints and Rams have played 68 times with St. Louis holding a 38-30 edge. Former longtime foes in the NFC West, the Saints have played only the Atlanta Falcons (82) and the San Francisco 49ers (71) more often than the Rams. The two clubs have split the last four regular season contests. Three of the last five games in the series have been decided by a eight points or less, one by a field goal or less. From 1985-95, New Orleans won 15 of 20 meetings with the Rams. St. Louis responded by winning five of six from 1995-1997. New Orleans is 7-11 vs. the Rams since the organization moved to St. Louis in 1995. 2010 GAME SUPERLATIVES REVIEW WEEK 1: Saints 14, Minnesota Vikings 9; September 9, 2010 @ Louisiana Superdome The Saints won a club record third consecutive season opener as a consistent performance on offense, defense and special teams carried New Orleans in the NFL s kickoff performance. QB Drew Brees highlighted the Saints performance as he completed 27 of 36 attempts for 237 yards and a TD. RB Pierre Thomas had a team-best 71 yards on 19 carries with his one-yard TD run in the third quarter giving New Orleans the lead for good. Brees connected on completions with nine different Saints led by WR Marques Colston s five receptions for 62 yards. RB Reggie Bush chipped in with five catches for 33 yards. The Saints out-gained the Vikings, 308 to 253 yards, and held the ball for 33:43 in time of possession as they scored their fewest points in a winning effort since Sean Payton became coach in 2006. New Orleans got out to a early 7-0 lead, but then saw that evaporate in the second quarter until Thomas one-yard scoring run in the third stanza to put them back up for good. The Saints defense displayed their mettle, allowing only 253 yards of offense by the Vikings and held Minnesota to 5-of-13 on third downs (38%). LB Jonathan Vilma had a second quarter interception of Vikings QB Brett Favre, while DT Sedrick Ellis sacked him. Favre finished 15-of-27 passing for 171 yards and one interception for a 71.7 passer rating. Vilma recorded an interception on a play where a pressure on Favre was credited to S Roman Harper. The win improved their opening day record to 16-28. This was the first time in club history the Saints have won three consecutive season openers. The Saints are 4-1 in season openers under Payton. The 14 points scored were the fewest by the Saints in a winning effort since Payton became head coach in 2006, and the fewest in a win since defeating Dallas 13-7 on Dec. 28, 2003 in the Superdome. Brees and WR Devery Henderson connected on a 29-yard TD on a third down play on New Orleans first offensive drive for the Saints first points of the season. DT Remi Ayodele blocked an extra point in the second quarter. It was the first extra point blocked by the Saints since DT Grady Jackson at Cincinnati on Dec. 22, 2002. WEEK 2: Saints 25, San Francisco 49ers 22; September 20, 2010 @ Candlestick Park The Saints posted an impressive road victory behind timely plays by the arm of Drew Brees, the foot of Garrett Hartley, who booted a 37-yard game-winning field goal as time expired and four forced turnovers by the defense and special teams unit. The Saints scored nine early first quarter points. On the first drive, the 49ers had the ball on their 15-yard line on third and five when the ball flew over San Francisco QB Alex Smith s head and fell out the back of the end zone for a safety. New Orleans then capitalized on the ensuing possession fro the safety and drove 46 yards on seven plays to cap it off with a six-yard touchdown pass from Brees to RB Reggie Bush. Leading 9-7 at halftime, 49ers RB Anthony Dixon ran for a two-yard touchdown to give the 49ers a 14-9 edge. The Saints responded when Brees fired his second score of the game on a three-yard pass to TE David Thomas with 1:43 remaining in the quarter. Taking advantage of a 43-yard punt return by Bush to end the third quarter, Hartley kicked the first of his three fourth quarter field goals to put the Saints up 19-14. Later on, WR Courtney Roby recovered a muffed punt on coverage, setting up another field goal to give New Orleans a 22-14 edge. San Francisco RB Frank Gore ran for a TD and Smith connected with 49ers TE Vernon Davis for a two-point conversion with 1:19 left, but Brees took advantage of the time to engineer the game-winning drive. Brees completed 28 of 38 passes for 254 yards with two TDs for a 108.9 rating. RB Pierre Thomas led the Saints in rushing (46 yards) and receiving with eight catches for 57 yards. WR Marques Colston had a team-high 67 yards receiving on five grabs, including an acrobatic 30-yard catch to set up the game-winning field goal. The defense forced Smith to throw interceptions to S Roman Harper and CB Tracy Porter in Saints territory. LB Jonathan Vilma had a game-high ten tackles and his forced fumble, which was recovered by S Malcolm Jenkins to avert a potential 49ers score. The win marks the first time the Saints have started 2-0 in two consecutive seasons. It extended their win streak against their former NFC West rivals to six games. Brees had a streak snapped of an NFL record five consecutive games with 300 or more yards passing on Monday Night Football. Head Coach Sean Payton improved his record on Monday Night Football to 6-2.

2010 GAME SUPERLATIVES REVIEW WEEK 3: Atlanta Falcons 27, Saints 24 (OT); September 26, 2010 @ Louisiana Superdome Atlanta K Matt Bryant kicked a 46-yard field goal with 1:55 left in overtime to give the Falcons a 27-24 win. The Saints overcame three turnovers and a three-point fourth quarter deficit to tie the score on their final drive of regulation when K Garrett Hartley kicked a 32-yard field goal. However, in overtime, after the Saints defense stymied Atlanta s first drive, Hartley missed a 29-yard attempt and the Falcons would successfully execute their next time down the field. QB Drew Brees completed 30 of 38 passes for 365 yards with three TD passes, two to WR Lance Moore and two interceptions. Moore had a career day with six receptions for a career-high 149 yards, tying his best in TD grabs and adding a career-long 72-yard punt return to set up a first quarter scoring throw from Brees to TE Jeremy Shockey. Shockey led the Saints in receptions with eight catches for 78 yards. DE Will Smith and DT Sedrick Ellis recorded one sack apiece. LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar led New Orleans with a career-high 13 tackles. Atlanta QB Matt Ryan completed 19 of 30 passes for 228 yards with two TDs. TE Tony Gonzalez had eight receptions for 110 yards with one TD, while RB Michael Turner carried 30 times for 114 yards with a TD. The loss snapped a streak of six consecutive September wins for the Saints, dating back to 2008. For the third straight game, the Saints scored a TD on their first possession. Dating back to the 2009 opener and including the playoffs, the Saints scored on their first possession 13 times (10 TD, 3 FG) in 22 games. Brees first-quarter interception was not only the first turnover committed by the Saints in 2010, but the first in 15 quarters, dating back to the second quarter of the 2009 NFC Championship. The pick was his first in 243 attempts, counting the postseason, his first in his last 141 regular-season throws. His last interception came in Week 15 of 2009 vs. Dallas.
