P A G E 2 ERAU Conducts Noise Abatement Workshop Pilots from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University met with City staff and the members of the Aircraft Noise Abatement Task Force on Tuesday, July 14 th, to conduct a workshop designed to test noise abatement procedures proposed for use at the Ormond Beach Municipal Airport. Dr. Frank Ayers, Chairman of the Flight Training Department at ERAU, offered a presentation on the procedures to be tested. A single-engine aircraft and a twin-engine aircraft were flown from the ERAU campus in Daytona Beach to the airport in Ormond Beach, to be used as test aircraft for the workshop. Use of these aircraft for the workshop was donated to the City by the university. Upon completion of the workshop presentation, the members of the Aircraft Noise Abatement Task Force adjourned to locations in the communities near the airport, in order to assess how the test procedures would affect the perceived noise impact of aircraft operations to those on the ground. One member of the task force was aboard each aircraft to observe the procedure tests from the air. Dr. Ayers and two members of his staff observed the tests from the air traffic control tower, with flight operations under the supervision of two air traffic controllers. The results of the workshop were discussed at the next meeting of the Aircraft Noise Abatement Task Force, which was held on Thursday, July 16 th.
