2006 LOYOLA RAMBLERS MEN S VOLLEYBALL PROSPECTUS Shane Davis (Loyola, 03) Head Coach Third Season (46-11,.807) 2005 MIVA Coach of the Year After only spending two years as the head coach of the men s volleyball program, Shane Davis led the 2005 Ramblers to a record-breaking year where he was recognized for his leadership by being named the 2005 MIVA Coach of the Year. Davis and the Ramblers posted their best record in history, 26-3 overall and 15-1 in the MIVA. The team went on a 21-match winning streak, owned the best winning percentage in the nation for weeks and capped the season by capturing the MIVA regular-season title. After the season wrapped up, Davis then traveled to help train the U.S. Men s Under-21 national team in Lake Placid, N.Y. as an assistant coach under John Speraw. The team then traveled to India in mid-august to compete in the FIVB U-21 World Championship, where the Americans finished 2-3 in Pool B play and placed eighth overall in the tournament. As a collegiate volleyball player at Loyola, Davis was a mainstay in the Rambler lineup, finishing his career with 5,337 assists, becoming the only player in LU history to reach the 5,000assist plateau. During his senior year, Davis earned second team AllAmerica honors by the American Volleyball Coaches Association and led his team to a nationally ranked hitting percentage (2nd) of.380. Adding to his national honors, Davis was selected as the Loyola University Male Athlete of the Year in addition to being a first team All-MIVA selection. "Shane is very familiar with Loyola and the men s volleyball program," Loyola Director of Athletics John Planek said. "He is well respected by his peers, the Loyola community, and his former teammates while his career accomplishments speak for themselves. As a player, he served as a coach on the floor and is a proven leader." A native of Denver, Iowa, Davis received All-MIVA accolades in all four years he competed as a Rambler, including first-team honors his final three seasons. Davis led Loyola to 78 wins in his collegiate career, including the previous record-setting season of 2002, where the Ramblers went 24-6 and reached the MIVA tournament championship match.
