CHAPELLETTE DANCE TEAM Dear Students and Parents, Try-outs for the Chapellette Dance Team will be held on Saturday, April 8 th, 2017 in Chapelle s gymnasium. The doors will open at 12pm and the try-out will begin at 12:30pm. Due to the fluctuating number of girls trying out, it is difficult to predict what time the try-outs will end; however, there will be a phone available to all girls trying out. A mandatory clinic will take place in Rummel s gym on Thursday, April 6 th at 7pm 8pm. Only those attending the clinic will be allowed to try-out. Applicants should wear leggings, a tank top of their choice, hair in ponytail off of the face, and tennis shoes for both the clinic and the try-out. Both are closed events. Try-outs for the Chapellettes, like sports teams, will be held each year. The number of girls chosen will vary from year to year. All Chapellettes must try-out each year and membership one year does not guarantee membership the following year. Those trying out for a position on the team will be judged on technique, execution, and personality. Judges made up of Chapellette alum and/or individuals with a technical dance background will be brought in to help with selecting the new team. The requirements to try-out are: 1. Academics: Must have a minimum 2.0 GPA for three quarters of the current school year. 2. Discipline: Must be in good standing with the Discipline Committee and Administrative Council. 3. Grade level: Must be registered at Chapelle for 8 th, 9 th, 10 th, 11 th, or 12 th grade for the 2017-2018 school year. So that the above requirements can be verified; all students registered at Chapelle must turn in their application to the front office NO LATER THAN MONDAY, APRIL 3 RD, 2017. Students who do not meet the above requirements will be notified prior to the mandatory clinic.

The academic and disciplinary requirements will be monitored for all Chapellette members quarterly from the final quarter of the current academic year through the first three quarters of the following year. The student is required to either present a copy of her report card to the directors or email a copy within five days of receiving it from Chapelle. The directors will receive from Chapelle and Administrative Council the name of any team member who loses their good standing. If a team member loses their good standing in either area, she will be placed on probation for the following nine-week period. If she is not eligible at the end of the probationary period, she will be asked to leave the team. A current member of the dance team who is on probation may try-out for next year s team but will not be considered for an officer position. If she is selected as a Chapellette, she will have one quarter to have her probationary status removed or she will be asked to leave the team. Attached is the list of approximate cost and time commitment associated with being a Chapellette so that you may make an informed decision. Because of expenses involved in these activities, students who are members are not eligible for tuition reduction. You must be in good standing with the finance office to be considered and those enrolled in work study will not be eligible to try out. If you daughter has your permission to try-out for the Chapellettes, please complete the attached application and return to Chapelle s front desk no later than MONDAY, APRIL 3 RD. We realize that some of the competitive dancing schools may be competing on the day of tryouts so as long as your daughter attends the mandatory clinic, she will still be eligible to make the team. Please don t hesitate to contact us at chapellettedanceteam@gmail.com should you need any further information. Sincerely, Stephani Kammer and Cheryl Pelle Chapellette Directors Chapellette Dance Team Tryout Packet Page 2 of 14

The Chapellettes also march in a Disney parade every other year and take this trip with the band. All rehearsals and performances are mandatory. All members must arrive in complete uniform at the time specified by the director. You will not be allowed to apply make-up or fix hair in public. 2. All hair and makeup must be approved by the directors before performing. Repeated failure to do hair and makeup as instructed will result in probation and possible dismissal from the team. 2. If you have any other plans after a performance, you must prepare to change INTO A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SET OF CLOTHING. 8. On Disney years during Mardi Gras, all members are required to travel to and from Disney with the team unless a signed permission slip in submitted to the directors prior to departure date. 9. *If your family decides to travel to Disney while we are there you MAY NOT stay with them overnight. You must sleep in the room you are assigned. VI. Conduct 1. Members must show respect to their teammates, their officers, the director, parents, and fans at all times. 2. Always return compliments by saying thank you. Other comments are to be ignored. This includes social media of any kind. 3. All members must display a positive attitude at practices and performances. 4. When walking off after any performance, no one should make any negative comments. 5. All communication pertaining to missing practice or events due to illness or any other circumstance must be emailed to directors. NO EXCUSES. 6. Personal grievances must never conflict with team interests (leave it at the door). 7. Chapellette dances are not to be taught to anyone that is not a Chapellette. 8. Any information appearing in any kind of newspaper must go through Chapelle. VII. COMMUNICATION 1. All members and parents will abide by the following chain of command with communication: a. First - team member(s) communicate with coach. b. Second - Parent and member communicate/meet with coach. a. When a parent would like to meet with a coach he or she needs to email for an appointment. Appointments will be scheduled no sooner than 24 hours after request is received. b. Any concern a parent has will be addressed with the student as well. c. Third - Communicate/meet with Dean of Students. d. Fourth - Communicate/meet with Archbishop Chapelle High School Administration. Chapellette Dance Team Tryout Packet Page 10 of 14

2. This chain of command is very important; it is impossible for coaches to address issues that are not brought to the coaches. Violations of this chain of command are highly discouraged and frowned upon. 3. Under no circumstances should a parent discuss any issues or concerns with any team member other than his or her OWN child. This behavior is considered highly inappropriate and will not be tolerated. 4. All members of the Archbishop Chapelle High School community are expected to act in a civil and courteous manner towards one another. An environment of mutual respect must prevail for parents, teachers, coaches and student-athletes to effectively work together. Inappropriate or derogatory e-mails or comments on social networking sites destroy morale, reflect poorly on the school and negatively impact our student-athletes. Thus, we expect all members of the Archbishop Chapelle family to behave, communicate, and interact with another in a manner that reflects good sportsmanship and our Christian values. 5. Rude, discourteous, or inappropriate communication from student-athletes and/or parents via email, text message, in person, or any other form of communication will not be tolerated. Said communication may result in the removal of the student-athlete from the team. VIII. Attendance: 1. Attendance at all scheduled events is MANDATORY. An excused absence is due to illness (absent from school with doctor s note), death in the family, and extreme emergency. Excused absences will be dealt with on a case by case basis by directors. 2. Leaving any practice early is unexcused. 3. If we have traveled to a band/team event on a bus and you plan to leave on your own, you must acquire a form from the band director, have it signed by a parent, and returned to the band director or team director for approval. If you have to miss practice due to therapy, x- rays, etc., you must have a doctor s note for that missed practice to be excused. 4. INJURIES. If you have to miss practice or required events due to an injury you must present a doctor s note specifically stating the nature of the injury and your limitations caused by the injury. Missing more than 3 weeks of practice (actively participating) or 3 required events could result in being placed in an alternate position. Missing more than 6 weeks of practice and/or events may result in dismissal from the team. If you have to miss practice or events due to therapy, x-rays, etc., you must have a doctor s note for that missed practice/event to be excused. Chronic injuries should be treated with extreme care and if you find yourself in this situation you will be released from the team so that your injury may get the attention it needs. YOUR HEALTH AND OVERALL WELL-BEING MUST COME FIRST. If you suffer from an injury and then are released to dance, we must have a doctor s note stating you are fully recovered and may participate in all events. PARTIAL PARTICIPATION AT PRACTICES AND EVENTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. 5. Even if you are not performing at the event, you must still come in full uniform unless specifically excused by a director OR you are not permitted to attend due to missing school for something other than sickness, death in family, extreme emergency 6. IF YOU MISS ANY PART OF A DAY AT SCHOOL on the day of a scheduled event, YOU WILL NOT BE PERMITTED TO PARTICIPATE WITH THE TEAM. NO Chapellette Dance Team Tryout Packet Page 11 of 14

EXCUSES. This is the policy of ACHS and we work in accordance with this policy. Arriving late (after the first bell) or attending school for a half day does not qualify you to participate. YOU MUST ATTEND SCHOOL FROM THE FIRST BELL TO THE END OF THE DAY. For example, if you are late or miss half a day on Friday and we have a game that night, you will not be permitted to participate or attend the game with us AT ALL. You will not report to Rummel. 7. If a member misses a practice, it is her responsibility to learn anything she may have missed. Returning to the following practice after having missed and not knowing your material may result in being moved to an alternate position. YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL MATERIAL THAT IS TAUGHT IN YOUR ABSENCE. IX. Respect & Behavior PROBATION Bad attitudes or disrespect WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. 1. Eye rolling, cursing, speaking disrespectfully to fellow teammates, and/or director will result in either probation or dismissal from the team. 2. Excessive tardiness will result in either probation or dismissal from the team. 3. Three or more unexcused absences from mandatory practices and performances may result in either probation or dismissal from the team. 4. Not wearing uniform correctly or missing pieces of the uniform will result in either probation or dismissal from the team. 5. Inappropriate behavior at public places will result in either probation or dismissal from the team. 6. Poor participation during practices and games will result in either probation or dismissal from the team. 7. Unclean uniform (uniform not clean, stockings, unclean boots, gloves) will result in either probation or dismissal from the team. 8. Displays of affection while in uniform will result in either probation or dismissal from the team. 9. Failure to respond to a director/officers phone calls, emails or texts will result in either probation or dismissal from the team. 10. Inappropriate behavior on social networks will result in either probation or dismissal from the team. X. Penalties 1. Infractions of the rules may result in either probation for a set or non-set period of time or immediate dismissal from the team. 2. Directors will receive quarterly reports from the Dean of Students concerning any and all disciplinary issues with team members. Penalties will coincide with those issued at Chapelle. For instance, if you receive a suspension at school you will be suspended from one Chapellette performance/event. Three suspensions in a school year will result in immediate dismissal from the team. Six (6) demerits will equal a suspension from one event. 3. The inability to maintain a 2.0 GPA (with no F s) will result in a nine-week probationary period followed by dismissal from the team if you are unable to bring your grades up by the next report card. Chapellette Dance Team Tryout Packet Page 12 of 14

IT IS AN HONOR AND PRIVILEDGE TO BE A MEMBER OF THE CHAPELLETTE DANCE TEAM AND IF YOU CANNOT UPHOLD THE INTEGRITY OF THE TEAM THEN YOU WILL TURN IN YOUR ENTIRE FORMAL UNIFORM AND BE ASKED TO LEAVE. XI. Transportation 1. Rummel High School will provide bus service from Chapelle to field practices at Rummel during the fall. You are responsible for transportation home from practices and after games. 2. You are responsible for all transportation to and from any practices and events at Chapelle. 3. Please be especially careful to make proper arrangements home. Excessive tardiness by parents or anyone picking up a team member could result in probation or dismissal from the team. XII. Dismissal from team Because all situations may not be foreseen and thus outlined here, dismissal from the team will be dealt with in a manner decided by the directors, with assistance from the administration if deemed necessary. Some actions may warrant dismissal from the team and include but are not limited to: 1. Excessive absences for performances or practices 2. Not meeting academic and/or disciplinary standards 3. Excessive tardiness 4. Extreme disrespect to anyone associated or not associated with the team 5. Actions that do not reflect appropriately on ACHS, ARHS, or the Chapellette Dance Team. 6. Repeatedly not having rides home at the appropriate times. 7. Chronic injuries lasting 6 or more weeks. XIII. Health and Physique As a member of the Chapellette Dance Team we like to promote a healthy physique on the outside as well as on the inside. We expect all members to make good choices when it comes to nutrition and exercise, as both of these play an important part of a member s performance, skills, and abilities. Should a member decide not to follow these guidelines, she may be put on probation or dismissed from the team if it interferes with her ability to perform up to the team standard. XIV. Fundraisers There will be several fundraisers planned throughout the year to cover costs of any unforeseen expenses as well as help with costs of any parties or events for the team. On Disney years there is a fundraiser organized by the band director that allows members to completely cover Disney expenses by actively participating. FUNDRAISERS ARE MANDATORY. XV. Booster Club Participation We strongly encourage all parents to actively volunteer and participate in all aspects of band and Chapellette events. Please plan to volunteer for at least 2-3 events each season. We want our parents to be involved and present to be an example of what team work is all about. The Booster club president sends emails each time there is an opportunity to help and we strongly encourage you to do so. Chapellette Dance Team Tryout Packet Page 13 of 14
