After passing the winning post on the first occasion Red Hot Rum had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Sultana (Nikita McLean) which shifted in when not quite sufficiently clear. Ms. McLean was notified to exercise far greater care when in similar circumstances. In the early and middle stages Tiki was inclined to over-race. Approaching the 1200 metres Sandbeeta had to be checked when tightened for room between Red Hot Rum, which knuckled and shifted in and The Tinker s Son which brushed the running rail and then shifted out abruptly. Fionn McCool which was following Sandbeeta, was hampered in consequence.
The Tinker s Son was held up for a clear run from the 600 metres until approaching the entrance of the straight. Near the 500 metres Red Hot Rum and The Tinker s Son raced tightly between Sultana and Sandbeeta. Shortly after this Red Hot Rum, which was taken out slightly by The Tinker s Son, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Sandbeeta, which shifted in slightly. As this incident could not be attributed to any one rider Stewards took no further action. Rounding the home turn Red Hot Rum became unbalanced when tightened for room between The Tinker s Son which was shifting out in an attempt to improve, and Schiller s List which shifted in. Near the 200 metres The Tinker s Son which was inclined to race greenly, shifted out and made contact with Red Hot Rum before being straightened by its rider. As a result of this incident both horses became unbalanced. Also near the 200 metres Fionn McCool and Sandbeeta brushed when both horses shifted ground slightly.
