Footnotes Dancing just for the Fun of it Established 1983 April 2016 Indianapolis, IN I view Indy Dancers as a second family. I have met many of you through the dance club that I may never have known otherwise. But there are people around Indy who would love to dance but they do not know where to go. However, you can help! For example, when I am out shopping and standing in line, I often strike up a conversation with a couple next to me. I may ask if they like to dance. The female will usually respond in the positive, the male in the negative. I will give them an Indy Dancers business card to help them find us online and suggest that our dances provide a perfect date night. I often hear from the women in our club that "we do not have enough men. Likewise, men will complain that "we do not have enough women. The answer is to engage your friends and people you meet by inviting them to our dance club. Be sure to tell them that admission is free to first-time visitors! It s the best way to encourage more men and women to be a part of our club. The long-term answer to increase membership is to invite people in our community. If you love to dance, why not share that love with people you meet? Speaking of new people, did you notice the number of new people who came to our dance at the Eastside Moose March 12? I encourage you to greet at least one new person at our dances and make them feel like they are part of the club. We have a great group of members in our dance club but we need to spread our love of dance to others, so they, too, maybe our next generation Indy Dancers! Sincerely, Carl Dankert Tuesday and Saturday Dance Lessons at 7:00 P.M. You don t want to miss a special dance presentation from the kids enrolled in this program. Proceeds from our door admission will go to support KDO. So, come have fun and support our future dancers!! What is KDO? Kids Dance Outreach in Indianapolis is a program designed for at-risk, elementary school children that provides discipline, confidence, and developmental skills that can prepare them to achieve success. It is the goal of KDO to help kids discover they can succeed and empower them for a lifetime. KDO has been welcomed into participating schools by educators who realize the importance of the arts programs that many schools can no longer afford. By doing this during the school day, families who are often not financially able or without transportation can participate in the arts as an integral part of a child s education. The KDO mission is to make a positive change in the lives of young people through the discipline of dance. Its vision is to improve the quality of life for underserved youth and their communities inspired by an educational dance experience. The program has proved so successful that the organization already has a wait list of schools that would like Kids Dance Outreach for their students. But finances limit how many teachers Johnson can hire and, therefore, how many schools the program can serve. Learn more at http://kidsdanceoutreach.org. ST. PATRICK S DAY PARTY

Indy Dancers replies to your suggestions! Recently, you were asked how we could improve Indy Dancers and we received some great comments. Here are a few of them and my responses. COMMENT: Greenwood has a wonderful dance floor, but the lodge is too far to drive. Please go back to the Knights of Columbus on North Keystone. RESPONSE: You are right, everyone enjoys the beautiful dance floor at the Greenwood Moose, and we are sorry that it is so far to drive for our Northside members. Our dances are held at different venues around the city because our members come from every corner of central Indiana. We are glad you enjoyed the Knights of Columbus but we no longer go there for two reasons: One, club members and guests vote with their feet for music and venues. Unfortunately, the vote for the Knights of Columbus was negative. Second, the K of C needed Tuesday nights to implement a program for their members, so they could no longer accommodate us. Our new Northside venue is the Latvian Center, not far from the K of C. We hope you enjoy this venue. COMMENT: I would like to see beginner dance lessons. RESPONSE: Thank you for this excellent suggestion! Scott and Yulia Shook try to present the lessons appropriate for dancers of all levels. However, we recognize that some dancers have additional questions. Dave and Sue Berard are happy to help beginners during our dances and dance lessons. See page 2 for information. COMMENT: I would like to see the club reinstall the Hospitality Committee to dance with new members. RESPONSE: Good news!! We are in the process of having a host and hostess at each dance to welcome members and guests and dance with new people. Hopefully, we will have this implemented soon. The board and officers of Indy Dancers welcome your comments and suggestions. Please feel free to tell us how we can improve Indy Dancers. It s YOUR club!!
