Our goal is to increase skill level within our athletes and prepare them to move on to the next level within hockey. Here is a brief introduction of each person and the different areas that we will be working on throughout the 2016/2017 season. How they will be integrated into the season plans will be presented at the various parent s meetings that will be held during try-outs. First Line Training: Phil Daly Fitness Training Bantam and Midget Phil has been involved in the fitness industry since 2006, after growing up playing competitive hockey and graduating from the NAIT PFT program. First line will provide fitness testing all athletes (Midget and Bantam) during the tryout process. The focus for in-season training will include injury prevention, flexibility, strength and endurance training designed to ensure that all athletes are capable of enduring the full season. Zone Performance: John Stevenson Team based sports Psychology All Kings teams John Stevenson specializes in the fields of Sport Psychology, Success, and Performance Psychology. His expertise and experiences teaches athletes how to develop mental toughness skills that help players in achieving the winning edge. Ian Gordon: Goalie Instruction - Male Bantam and Midget teams Ian is the owner and head instructor of Ian Gordon s Goaltending. He is currently the head goalie coach for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL. Ian worked with our goalies last season and his sessions focus on positioning, power skating and edge control, as well as game like situations.
Page 2 of 7 Kurtis Mucha: Goalie Instruction PeeWee and Female Bantam Kurtis is currently the Goalie Development Coach for the Edmonton Oil Kings of the WHL and Goalie Coach for the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL. Kurtis s goalie sessions will include power skating and edge control at the start of the season before moving into drills that would cover positioning, laterals, deflections/screens, plays off the rush etc. Millar Power Skating: Britney Millar Power Skating Male Bantam and Midget teams Britney is currently the head power skating instructor for the MacEwan University Women s hockey team and St. Edmunds Academy. Britney completed Quantum Speed s Apprenticeship program. This included assignments related to biomechanics of skating and the individual philosophies of power skating instruction. Brown Power Skates: Renee Brown - Power Skating PeeWee and Female Bantam Renee is presently enrolled in the Physical Education and Education Combined Degree Program at the University of Alberta. Renee currently runs BrownSk8s Power Skating, a company which strives to develop skater s skill, strength and speed on ice, while ensuring athletes find a success through good work ethic and dedication to the skill of skating. Paul Manning: Skills Coach PeeWee and Female Bantam and Midget Paul has many years of experience in such roles as a hockey instructor, power skating coach and skills instructor. Paul is a former NHL player who is now helping to develop players in all areas of the game. Sherwood Park Crusader s Coach: Adam Manah Skills Coach - Bantam Male Adam was recently named as the Head Coach for the Sherwood Park Crusaders. He has a long history in of coaching in Alberta, including the MAAA team in Grand Prairie, as well as spending time in CAC s program. He was an instructor at the Edge Hockey Academy in GP and also works with St Edmunds hockey program. Adam has also been a part of Hockey Alberta s program of excellence as both a coach and mentor in the Alberta Cup and Pee Wee Prospects Cup. Core Hockey: Blair Becker Skills Coach - Midget Male Skills Coach Core Hockey Training has been in operation since 2013. Blair has 16 years of coaching experience from Novice to Junior. He was an assistant coach for the 2015 Winter Games hockey team and is now a coach mentor for Hockey Alberta. Blair is also an assistant coach for the Camrose Kodiaks

So take a moment to meet our coaches Midget Major AAA-Kings sponsored by J. Ennis Kings Leo Reagan Leo has coached hockey for the past 13 years. His focus is developing a complete athlete, both in hockey and life skills. This is Leo s 3rd year as head coach for the Major Midget team and he was previously an assistant coach for 3 years before that. He is looking forward to the upcoming hockey season and keeping the traditions of the club. Female Midget Elite- Fury Sponsored by Sin Bin Steve Mancini Steve has been coaching with SPMHA for 15 years. As a first year coach with the Kings club he is looking forward to a new, exciting and challenging position in the new Midget Elite Female League. Steve wanted to thank the Kings club for this opportunity to broaden his coaching skills and wants to wish all the girls good luck during tryouts. Go Fury! Midget Minor 15AAA- Squires Sponsored by NIC Richard Benson Richard is a teacher at Clover Bar Junior High School where he has also been an instructor of the Hockey Program for the past 10 years. Richard has been an elite level coach for 9 years. He began as a head coach for the Fort Saskatchewan Bantam AAA team before taking over for the 15AAA s. He was also an assistant coach with Team Brick Alberta for 3 years, winning the Brick Invitational in one of those 3 years.
Page 4 of 7 Midget Major AA- Oilers- Sponsored by Sandy s Oilfield Hauling Derek Hutton Derek has been coaching with SPKAC for the past 4 years. He started out as an assistant coach with the Bantam AA Sabres before taking over as a Head coach two years ago. He has also helped coach the Bonnyville Pontiacs. Derek wants to see kids grow as people as well as players and to create bonds that last a lifetime. Midget Minor 15AA- Senators- Sponsored by TAHK Projects LTD Ty Wyard-Scott This is Ty s fourth year as a coach, and his second as a head coach. Ty has been an assistant coach with the Peewee AA Jets and the MLAC Bantam AA Brickman. He is currently studying business at Grant MacEwan and works at Bladz Skateshop. He is also an SPKAC Alumni, playing all 3 years of the Midget program. Ty s key elements for a successful season are to develop character, discipline and respect as well as on ice skills and hockey IQ. He is looking forward to the developing the players. Bantam AAA- Flyers- Sponsored by United Cycle Derek Hemsley Derek most recently coached the 15AAA team in Fort Saskatchewan. Prior to that, he spent 4 years as the Head coach of the Strathcona Bruins Jr. B team. Derek has also spent 4+ years as the head Instructor with Gold in the Net and Puckmasters, as well as an evaluator in Hockey Alberta at both the Alberta Cup and Prospects Cup. We re looking forward to Derek joining our club! Bantam AA- Sabres- Sponsored by The Sawmill Steve Ewaskiw Steve has 13 years coaching experience between Bantam AA and Junior B with the last 7 seasons at the Southside Athletics club. Greg s primary focus is to foster the development of both the players and assistant coaches on the team. Greg is looking forward to coaching this year and the commitment and hard work of players and coaches is rewarding and fun. Female Bantam Elite- Royals- Sponsored by TAHK Projects LTD Grant Glowinski Grant has an extensive coaching resume that has been centered on female hockey. He spent 5 years coaching the St. Albert Slash Female Midget AAA. He also spent time with Edmonton s female Bantam team in the AAA league. Grant has extensive involvement with hockey development including Hockey Alberta s Future Leader Program, Alberta Winter Games, the U18 Female National Championship, and most recently as a coach with Hockey Alberta s Female Showcase, the Alberta Challenge. Grant has also worked for Hockey Alberta, coordinating the Edmonton Regional Centre and U16 Female High Performance Program, as well as assisting Hockey Canada s female development programs in Alberta. Grant currently teaches at Clover Bar Junior High School and with the schools hockey program. Peewee AA- Steel Kings- Sponsored by Sherwood Steel Paul Carter Paul is our newest PeeWee coach this year. He s coached both hockey and soccer in Sherwood Park for 14 years. Paul has been a Head coach and assistant coach with SPMHA for most of those years and one year assistant in the Kings club. We re happy to have Paul commit to us for this upcoming season! Peewee AA- Jets- Sponsored by All Season Equipment Ltd. Mike Hurley Mike grew up playing hockey in Sherwood Park before moving on to play in the WHL and the U of A. He s now a second year PeeWee coach and has coached from Initiation to Atom in his 7 years with SPMHA. He is a big believer in not only the skill development of hockey players but also character development.
