What are the Highland Games? One weekend each April the Las Vegas Celtic Society throws the Las Vegas Highland Games, a massive festival for the community featuring Celtic music, food, vendors, and athletics. Some of the highlights include: Live Celtic music on our main stage all weekend long. For 2017 our headliners will be Highland Way, Neil O Neill and some very talented local groups. There s plenty of grass seating in front of the stage, so bring your lawn chair (or check out our VIP Tent) Highland Dance Competition on Saturday. Typically we have 80 or more highland dancers of all ages competing to live bagpipe music. This takes place on our second stage. Bagpipe and Drum Band Competition. There are 10 to 15 bagpipe and drum bands of varying skill levels competing against one another in our competition area. There is also solo competition for bagpipers and drummers that takes place in the early morning to afternoon with about 100 participants. Scottish Heavy Athletics. These guys and gals throw some seriously heavy stuff. The event features throwing weights, putting the stone, hammer throwing, sheaf tossing, and the infamous caber toss (those telephone poles you see them hurling). These are all fascinating to watch and true tests of physical strength. The VIP Tent. Last but certainly not least, we have the best seats in the house. The VIP tent has an excellent view of the main stage events, as well as inclusive food and drink in a great setting right in front of the main stage.
What is the Las Vegas Celtic Society? We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Celtic heritage in Southern Nevada. We do that by throwing the annual Las Vegas Highland Games, as well as supporting other local groups such as the Southern Nevada Sons and Daughters of Erin, the St. Andrews Society of Southern Nevada, and the Las Vegas Pipe Band through volunteering, scholarships, and donations. The Las Vegas Celtic Society is a group of like-minded folks who got together in 2004 to organize a Celtic Gathering and Highland Games in Las Vegas. Some love Highland Dance, some love Bagpipe and Drum Bands, and some love Heavy Athletics, but all want to celebrate their heritage in a fun, educational way.
