ReActivate, Training Program and Changes to Other PADI Courses Now that the ReActivate program is available to welcome inactive divers back to scuba diving and replaces the Scuba Review program, there are a few changes to other PADI courses primarily the PADI Divemaster course and the Instructor Development Course (IDC). Divemaster During the Divemaster course Practical Application segment, ent, Divemaster Conducted Programs Workshop 1 was called Scuba Review in Confined Water. It is now called Workshop 1: ReActivate Program. Key changes to the workshop include that it can be conducted in either confined or open water and that it focuses on showing divemaster candidates how to prescriptively conduct the program based on each diver s needs. Unlike the previous workshop that covered 20 Scuba Review skills, this revised workshop teaches divemaster candidates to interview participants and then prescriptively conduct those skills that will help participants regain comfort with diving. You ll find the changes in the 2015 PADI Instructor Manual (available for download on 1 February.) To help divemaster candidates learn how to conduct ReActivate, the Divemaster Slates will be revised to include guidelines and performance requirements for the program. The revised slates will also have the updated Project AWARE s 10 Tips for Divers to Protect the Ocean Planet. IDC For the IDC, the Keep Diving presentation (part of IDC Online) discussed Scuba Review as a diver retention program. The revised presentation positions ReActivate as a way to turn former divers into active divers once again. It explains that inactive divers are really pre-qualified customers who already appreciate aspects of the dive lifestyle and just need motivation to get back in the water. The presentation also goes over the PADI Online Processing Center and how to manage ReActivate codes and process replacement cards with ReActivate dates. Although the online presentation won t be updated right away, PADI Course Directors can download the revised Keep Diving presentation to review ReActivate with instructor candidates during the IDC. There are also other instances where Scuba Review references should simply be replaced with ReActivate in the IDC curriculum. Please refer to the PADI Course Director Manual errata that is available on the PADI Pros Site to overview all recent changes. Page 2 Training Bulletin First Quarter 2015

ReActivate Get Credit When you teach the new ReActivate program, not only do you help a diver sharpen diving knowledge and skills, you get credit for doing so. Whether you are a PADI Instructor, Assistant Instructor or Divemaster, you receive credit equivalent to one Open Water Diver certification for every five ReActivate registrations. These credits are applicable as proof of teaching experience for upper-level professional credentials, such as Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Master Instructor and Course Director. When you process replacement cards for ReActivated divers, your credits will appear in your student count report. Access your report on the PADI Pros Site under My Account. PADI Pros Site/My Account/My Student Counts Do you have the current instructor guide? There were some late amendments to the original ReActivate Instructor Guide posting. If you downloaded it from the Pros Site before 18 September 2014, and haven t downloaded the amended guide, please do so. The 2015 PADI Instructor Manual will have the latest guide. Digital Products What You Need to Know Training With the launch of the new Open Water Diver Digital Certification Paks, you and your student divers have a variety of independent study options from the traditional printed manual to a completely paperless, digital package accessed via a mobile device. The First Quarter 2015 The Undersea Journal has detailed information and reference tables about PADI digital products. There is also a PADI Digital Product Suite brochure that explains PADI s Digital Suite. Use these resources to gain understanding, but here are a few essentials that you really need to know: There are three Open Water Diver Digital Certification Paks. All paks come with an etraining Log and certification card processing, plus either a digital erdpml TM or RDP Table, or both. Also, student divers can complete the Knowledge Reviews online and get an erecord to verify completion. These paks are currently available in English with translations coming soon. The Premium Paks (Online elearning and Offline Touch) allow student divers to complete quizzes and the final exam online. When divers come to you with their erecords, you administer the elearning Quick Review and complete their inwater training. Student divers who use the regular Pak will need to view the Open Water Diver Video and take the quizzes and final exam with you. This pak includes a digital Open Water Diver Manual that can either be accessed from a personal computer or a tablet/mobile device, but no video. Student divers who use tablets or mobile devices need to download the PADI Library App. These divers can access all pak components through the PADI App (available for ios and Android users.) The etraining Log has an approval process. The student diver fills in dive data on ScubaEarth and submits the Open Water Diver course training dive. You receive an email prompting you to approve the dive. You log on to the PADI Pros Site/Online Processing Center to review and accept the diver s logged dive, or reject it if incorrect. You can add comments and send it back to the diver to make changes, then resubmit to you for approval. You can purchase Digital Certification Pak access codes from the PADI Pros Shopping Cart or from your PADI Sales Representative. You manage these codes through the PADI Online Processing Center. You email codes to student divers for them to redeem and start studying. You use codes to process student diver certification cards. You see names and product codes under Redeemed Codes in the PADI Online Processing Center for student divers who purchased paks from you. To process a certification card, select the student diver and continue as prompted through the PIC Online process. For referred student divers, you can process certification cards by going to the PADI Online Processing Center, choose Redeemed Codes and filter by Not Certified, then Search for student by product code or PADI ID. The student diver s erecord will have the diver s PADI ID. Use this ID to find the student diver, then continue as prompted through the PIC Online process. No matter what independent study option student divers use, you still validate that they understand important concepts and master skills. Continue to do what you do best teach people how to scuba dive. PADI Pros Site/Toolbox/Digital Product Suite/Read the PADI Digital Product Suite Brochure Page 4 Training Bulletin First Quarter 2015

What Other New Digital Products are Available and How Do They Work? Besides digital products for the Open Water Diver course, the ReActivate TM program offer divers looking to refresh their dive knowledge with the option to study using ReActivate Touch or ReActivate Online. The PADI Equipment Specialist course offers a supplemental tool called Equipment Specialist Touch. And, the erdpml is now available in a mobile-friendly version called erdpml Touch. Here are the options and features: Options and Features Tablet and mobilefriendly ReActivate Touch ReActivate Online Equipment Specialist Touch erdpml Touch and Instructions for Use RDP Table and Instructions for Use Online access needed for assessments Comes with certification/ replacement card processing You purchase product codes via the PADI Pros Online Shopping cart or from your PADI Sales Representative Divers purchase product via padi.com or link from PADI App No assessment No assessment No assessment Only comes with Digital Certification Paks Similar to the way PADI elearning has always worked, anytime someone purchases an educational product directly from padi.com, the individual must affiliate with a PADI Dive Center or Resort. If a potential diver chooses your facility, you ll receive an email introducing your new customer. You also receive a revenue share for the product. It s a winning system that gives consumers easy, immediate access to digital products and provides you with new divers and income without having to stock or even sell anything. For more information about the ReActivate program and Equipment Specialist Touch, see the Fourth Quarter 2014 Training Bulletin. Training Bulletin First Quarter 2015 Page 5

PADI Single Sign On The updated PADI App has a new feature called PADI Single Sign On (SSO). PADI SSO is an authentication process that will eventually allow you to access many PADI applications or websites with one set of login credentials saving time and effort because it requires fewer passwords and logins. PADI SSO uses an email address and password. You may have your sign on updated to one SSO using the email address and password you previously used for example, to the PADI Pros Site, ScubaEarth, or PADI ecard. If you have forgotten your password, click here 1 to reset it. To download the latest version of the PADI App, visit the Apple App Store 2 or Google Play 3. SSO is used for: ScubaEarth PADI Pros Site PADI ecard EVE PIC Web Service PADI Diving Society Dive Nav PADI Gear All Touch products Online materials/digital codes Note: At this point PADI elearning does not support SSO, the login information previously created remains the same until a later project phase that will include elearning. Contact Customer Service at your PADI Regional Headquarters if you have any questions. 1 padi.com/mypadi/pros/my-account/password/reset-wo-login.aspx 2 https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/padi/id416901042 3 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.padi.mobile&hl=en PADI Scuba Diver and Emergency Weight Drop In the PADI Scuba Diver Course Instructor Guide, the Emergency Weight Drop skill is listed as a Dive Flexible Skill to be completed during Open Water Dive 1 or 2. As in the Open Water Diver course, this skill may be completed either in confined or open water. The 2015 edition of the PADI Instructor Manual notes this minor change. Page 6 Training Bulletin First Quarter 2015

2015 PADI Instructor Manual If you haven t already renewed your PADI Membership, do it now because you don t want to miss out on all the benefits, such as the 2015 edition of the PADI Instructor Manual. The Instructor Manual and related errata document will be available for download on the PADI Pros Site on 1 February. This new edition includes changes and clarifications announced in the Training Bulletin since the 2014 edition was published. Some changes of note: The Instructor s Creed, PADI Member Code of Practice and the Youth Leader s Commitment are now at the front of the manual, before General Standards and Procedures. ReActivate Instructor Guide replaces Scuba Review Instructor Guide. During the transition between programs, the Scuba Review Instructor Guide is still available for download from the Pros Site. New subsection under Disabilities in General Standards and Procedures outlines considerations for accepting individuals into leadership-level courses. A reminder to not combine training dives (such as conducting a wreck dive from a boat and crediting it toward both the Wreck and Boat Specialty Diver courses) is added to General Standards and Procedures, under Linking Courses: Do not combine the performance requirements for two or more dives, such as Adventure Dives or specialty course dives, into one dive so that credit is received for more than one rating. You may link courses to give diver credit toward another course as follows... Open Water Diver Course Confined Water Dive 2, performance requirement 14 regarding the air depletion skill, no longer has the requirement to complete this in water too deep in which to stand. Why? As the first air depletion skill, there is no need to do it at depth, so you have the option to do it either in shallow water or water too deep in which to stand. Are You Missing Something? Even though PADI Standards are easy to follow, sometimes PADI Members overlook the details, particularly as individual courses evolve. Instructors may not realize they ve skipped a step until they receive a Quality Management inquiry regarding their student divers responses on a Course Evaluation Questionnaire (CEQ). For example, here are two questions that new PADI Divemasters have answered no to more than other questions on the Divemaster CEQ: Q1: Did you have your own personal erdpml for study and use during the course and for reference after the course? Divemaster Response: I had an erdpml, but my instructor or the dive center loaned it to me for the exam. Instructor Response: Since it s not in the Divemaster Crew-Pak, I didn t know divemaster candidates needed one. Standards: The erdpml is on the list of required materials for divemaster candidates in your PADI Instructor Manual. It s not included in the Crew-Pak because candidates may already have one from previous courses. Make sure each candidate owns either a physical erdpml or an erdpml Touch. Q2: Did you participate in the Divemaster Conducted Programs Workshop 4: Discover Scuba Diving Program Additional Open Water Dive? Divemaster Response: The dive shop where I took the course conducts DSDs in a pool only. Standards: All of the workshops in the divemaster course curriculum are required, regardless of how local programs are conducted. For this workshop, have candidates take turns leading an open water dive with other candidates or staff members acting as DSD participants, as stated in your PADI Instructor Manual. Even if you ve taught a particular course many times, it s a good idea to review the standards before you start. If you have questions, the Training Consultants at your regional PADI Regional Headquarters are standing by to support you. PADI Courses Accredited PADI courses and programs have been rigorously evaluated by respected third-party authorities and achieved significant accreditation and approval over time. Recently, PADI courses were re-evaluated for International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certification, the American Council on Education (ACE) and the Australian Skills Quality Authority with exceptional outcomes. This acknowledgement of PADI course educational credibility provides a high confidence level for those taking your courses, and can be significant leverage when you are seeking approval to teach PADI courses in academic institutions and elsewhere. You ll find a useful reference on the Pros Site, and more information in this edition The Undersea Journal. PADI Discover Scuba Diving Materials As indicated in the Third Quarter 2013 Training Bulletin, as of June 2014, your Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) participants must have the PADI Discover Scuba Diving Participant Guide. When you conduct the program s knowledge development session or briefing, you must use at least one of the following PADI materials: The PADI Discover Scuba Diving Participant Guide, the Discover Scuba Diving Cue Card, or the Flip Chart. Whether you use your Discover Scuba Diving Cue Card for the briefing or not, it continues to be a great reference in the water as it reminds you of skill requirements. The briefing points are also useful as reminders for participants, especially if there is a few hours gap between the confined water skill session and the optional open water dive. By incorporating newly-revised Discover Scuba Diving Video into your programs, you ll have a fully-supported program that engages the participant in diving before getting in the water. The revised video includes fresh imagery that correlates with the Participant Guide and enhances the value of the program. It is currently available in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Easy to Register Training There are three convenient ways to register your PADI DSD participants: Register them online on the PADI Pros Site under Online Services/DSD Registration and then follow the steps for Discover Scuba Diving Registrations; Return the registration portion of the Participant Guide to your PADI Regional Headquarters; Complete a PADI DSD Registration Form (10119) and submit it to your PADI Regional Headquarters PADI Ice Diver Specialty Course Updated The PADI Ice Diver Specialty Course and related standards have been evaluated and modernized to reflect current standard operating procedure in ice diving areas globally. If you are a PADI Ice Diving Instructor, make sure you have the updated instructor guide and become familiar with changes to the standards before teaching your next ice diver course. You ll find an overview of key changes that were made to the outline on the Pros Site. The 2015 edition outline replaces all previous versions. FAQs Q. I m a PADI Distinctive Specialty Instructor, and I want to make a few changes to my outline. Do I need to check with my PADI Regional Headquarters (RHQ)? A. Yes. Your course outline was approved based on the outline you submitted for review. If you want to make changes to it, check with your RHQ Training staff to discuss the changes. The staff will work with you toward getting changes approved as soon as possible, and discuss options with you should any concerns arise. Q. I have a really strong divemaster candidate who has been interning with my continuing education courses to gain experience. May I rely on her to increase ratios on the training dives? A. No. Only qualified certified assistants (Active or Teaching Status PADI Divemasters, Assistant Instructors, Instructors) allow you to increase ratios. While it is excellent training and experience to have divemaster candidates intern with as many courses as possible, they are not yet certified divemasters. Using candidates as certified assistants could jeopardize student safety; plus it assigns responsibility to divers who may not be ready for it, are not yet qualified for it and do not have the liability insurance important for their own protection. Q: During the PADI Open Water Diver course, do student divers have to exit the water between dives and break down the equipment; even if they have plenty of air for a second dive, and are comfortable completing a surface interval while in the water? A: Yes. PADI General Standards and Procedures in the PADI Instructor Manual, Open Water Dives, number 7 states: Conduct all skills outlined in the course instructor guide and include a briefing covering the dive objectives, safety and care for the environment; equipment assembly and predive safety check; entry; exit; debriefing; equipment disassembly and logging the dive. Especially during entry-level training it s important for student divers to practice all aspects of an open water dive including predive and post dive activities. EFR TecRec Emergency First Response Website Revitalization emergencyfirstresponse.com 1 has been updated and revised to provide both EFR Instructors and consumers access to current course overviews and accreditations, instructor opportunities, product outlines, company information, the EFR Course Finder and access to the EFR Instructor site. The updated website is currently available in English and it has the option to access the German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese and Russian versions of the old site. Along with these features, the Emergency First Response Blog 2 has been integrated into the website. It includes all previous blog articles and will showcase fresh and regular content from all EFR Regional Headquarters (Americas; Asia Pacific; Europe, Middle East & Africa). Each page on the website will aim to have a strong, informative core message and include a call to action for consumers, allowing them to continue their online search by finding and contacting an EFR training provider near to them, or by contacting their local EFR Regional Headquarters for further information. Also, follow the new Emergency First Response Social Media Pages on Facebook 3 and Twitter 4 to stay up to date with further improvements, blog articles, news and events. 1 www.emergencyfirstresponse.com 2 www. emergencyfirstresponse.com/blog 3 www.facebook.com/efrfirstaid 4 www.twitter.com/efrfirstaid Tec Diver Course Standards Update Effective immediately, the required materials standard for Tec 40, 45 and 50 students has been revised to remove the requirement for students to have their own personal Tec Deep Diver manual where it is not available in a language the student understands. This change brings these courses into alignment with the General Standards and Procedures required materials standard for PADI programs, and will be reflected in future revisions of the Tec Diver Course Instructor Guide. In the meantime, in the Tec Diver Course Instructor Guide Standards section, Student Materials, please amend the first paragraph to read as follows: Because technical diving requires a large knowledge development load, for independent study and for reference and review of the tables used for dive planning after certification, student divers in the PADI Tec Diver courses are required to have personal copies of the PADI Tec Deep Diver Manual, unless the manual is not available in a language a student diver understands. In that case, you provide all course information through class sessions, predive briefings, etc. However, students will still need the manual for access to the tables, formulas and other support information.
