MEET OUR COURSE DIRECTORS Natalie Hunt Platinum PADI Course Director / EFR Instructor Trainer # Natalie, who celebrates 20 years as a PADI dive professional, has taught diving to over 3000 travelers who were excited to change their lives here on Koh Tao. In addition to her Course Director role at Ban s Diving Resort, she is the dive centre manager of our sister company, Assava Dive Resort. Natalie offers you a true passion for the underwater world, enthusiasm for quality diver education, and unparalleled experience from which to draw upon when she guides you through professional diver training. She considers herself to be a global citizen having worked in Australia, Canada, the Caribbean, Egypt, and Thailand, which has allowed her the opportunity to gain an appreciation for several cultures and diverse diving environments. Guillaume Fargues Platinum PADI Course Director / EFR Instructor Trainer # Guillaume took his first dive 20 years ago in the cold waters of Northern France. Before becoming a dive professional, he was working as a management consultant in Paris. Once he realised that he was spending more time staring at his tropical fish screensaver than preparing PowerPoint presentations, he decided to pack his diving gear and a pair of boardshorts and headed to Thailand. For over 5 years, he worked as an Instructor on Koh Tao and trained many students from Open Water Diver to Divemaster. As a PADI Course Director, Guillaume has been running the IDCs at Ban s Diving Resort for the last 8 years. When he is not teaching IDCs, he is often seen on the boat ready to jump in with his sidemount unit. 2

3 OVERVIEW To qualify for PADI Instructor Development Course, you'll need to: Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or leadership level with another recreational diver training organization. Be at least 18 years old. Have been certified as a diver for at least 6 months. Be in good physical condition for diving and submit a medical exam form signed by a physician. Have completed and logged at least 100 open water dives with experience in night, deep and navigation. The PADI Instructor Development Course program consists of: Formal training in conducting PADI programs and experience programs. Independent study assignments. Practical application sessions. Written examination. Preparation. 2-4 weeks. The IDC Candidate can arrive 2-4 weeks prior to the IDC start date and participate in Skill practice in Confined Water, Assisting on Courses, Review of Dive Theory, Rescue Skill practice and "fun-diving" to get familiar with the local dive sites around Koh Tao. Review DM Theory using the Diving Knowledge Workbook, Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving, and Dive Master Exams. Instructor Development Course. 14 days. This module includes Assistant Instructor Course, Open Water Scuba Instructor and EFR (CPR and First Aid) Instructor. This program will build upon your abilities to organize and supervise dive activities, while concentrating on developing teaching skills. Through independent study, classroom sessions and practical application, candidates learn to construct effective teaching presentations and conduct PADI programs. To help you through the program, PADI has developed an array of learning tools. During the IDC you will use the latest teaching techniques, the complete system of PADI support materials, and will be continuously assessed on your teaching and presentation skills. You will be required to give additional teaching presentations beyond that of the usual IDC Program. This gives you an added advantage not only during the final 3

4 Instructor Examination (IE), but also prepares you for a future career as a diving professional. Upon successful completion you will be awarded an IDC completion form, which is your passport to the IE. See full IDC schedule on page 6-7 PADI Instructor Exam. 2 days. Instructor Examinations is conducted over 2 days with PADI Examiners from PADI Asia Pacific. The I.E. includes evaluation of Dive theory, Standard and Procedures, Academic, Confined and Open Water presentations and Rescue Skill #7 from the PADI Rescue Course. Diving Instructor Internship Program (D.I.I.P). 6-8 weeks. Internship training in one of the most successful dive centres in Asia where you team teach with Master Instructors and Course Directors on PADI Courses and Programs to build up experience. At the end of the Internship training most candidates have certified PADI Divers. The program is also integrated with Specialty Instructor Training including Enriched Air Instructor, Deep Diver Instructor, Photography Instructor, Wreck Instructor and Night Diving Instructor and more. The internship program ends with an application for Master Scuba Diver Trainer. 4

8 If you are enrolled in the Instructor Internship program please ask for your individual schedules. Instructor Specialty seminars will be conducted during a ten day period following the IE. Interns will then have the opportunity to assist on courses, certify students at many levels of diver education, and achieve their Instructor Specialty ratings. Ultimately your personal marketability as a PADI Instructor is greatly increased through this initiative.
