Over 100 youth parents and families came out to celebrate all of the achievements of Woodford County 4-H this past program year. 2017 4-H Country Ham Project Come be a part of the fastest growing project Kentucky 4-H has to offer! The 2017 4-H Country Ham project offers a great opportunity for youth to learn about the meat industry while also working on their communication skills. Contracts available starting Tuesday, November 1st at the Livestock Club Business Meeting When: Contracts Due by Tuesday, December 6th at 7:00pm Cost: $60 for youth (2 hams) and adults (1 ham) Participants will be required to complete and give a speech at the 2017 4-H Youth Expo and the Kentucky State Fair. 4-H Achievement Program The 4-H Achievement program recognizes youth for continued involvement in 4-H through the middle school and high school years. The Kentucky 4-H Foundation funds this program which includes awards such as scholarships to attend 4-H Teen Summit (for Middle School age youth), Kentucky 4-H Teen Conference (for High School age youth), National 4-H Congress and National 4-H Conference. The top level of the achievement program (Emerald) includes a $1,000.00 college scholarship. The first step is to begin working on the clover level application, then as you stay involved in 4-H you advance to bronze, silver and gold levels. When: Thursday, November 10th at 6:00pm Where: Come join us as we partner with Scott County to complete the applications together. This is a perfect time for all middle school and high school youth to work on their applications and have their questions answered! 4-H Needles and Threads Come join us for our last Needles and Threads meeting of the calendar year! We ll be making magic stockings to get ready for the holidays! When: Monday, November 28th 6:30pm-8:00pm Each 4-H member is asked to bring a sewing kit and one adult must stay with them during the class. Cost is $5. You may either bring your own sewing machine or reserve one through the Extension Office but machines are limited. Participants need to have already completed at least 4-H Sewing Unit 1 or have significant sewing experience in order to participate. Please call (859)873-4601 with questions or to sign up!
4-H Livestock Club 4-H Horse and Pony Club Tuesday, November 1st 7:00pm During this meeting we will be electing and installing officers. If you are interested in holding an office, please make sure you pick up an application and submit it prior to November 1st! Educational Meeting Monday, November 21st 5:00pm Please join us at 5:00pm for our educational meeting. We will use this time to feature guest speakers on livestock topics or take field trips around the area! 4-H Environmental Club Wednesday, November 16th This club is for anyone interested in Monday, November 21st 6:00pm November s meeting will be held at Ginger Gay s farm. We ll talk about grooming and get some hands-on experience. For directions please call the Extension Office. 4-H Afterschool Garden Club Thursday, November 10th If you like to get your hands dirty and turn your thumbs green, this club is for you! Learn to grow your own food and flowers indoors and out. The 4-H Afterschool Garden Club will meet monthly so please call the Extension Office to sign up! Four Paws 4-H Dog Club If you have an interest in learning how to work with dogs, participate in dog shows or just training your family pet, then stay tuned for more dog club
4-H Cloverbuds Thursday, November 17th Cloverbuds is a club specifically tailored for 5-8 year olds to get a small taste of 4-H! This club will meet at the Extension Office monthly. 4-H Afterschool Culinary Club Monday, November 28th The 4-H Culinary club will focus on learning cooking and baking skills while mastering recipes. 4-H Winter Weather Policy As winter weather approaches, just a friendly reminder that in the event that Woodford County Schools are closed due to inclement weather, all 4-H meetings are cancelled. Don t let the changing temperatures get you down! Go ahead and pencil in 4-H Summer Camp onto your calendar! July 17th - July 21st, 2016 We hope you will consider contributing to the United Way of the Bluegrass during their fall campaign drive. United Way is working to advance the common good by focusing on education, income and health. These are the building blocks for a good life - a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. Woodford County 4-H is directly supported by the United Way through an annual Local Grant program. You may also choose to have part or all of your annual contribution go directly to Woodford County 4-H by selecting Woodford County 4-H Council as the specific agency you would like to support.
