Arizona fi nished 8-8 last season, rebounding after a 1-6 start to go 7-2 over the fi nal nine games of the season. Friday s contest will mark their second game in a six-day span after falling 17-10 to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday evening in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. The Chiefs welcome the return of starting QB Matt Cassel, RB Jamaal Charles, TE Tony Moeaki and S Eric Berry, who all missed signifi cant playing time in 2011 due to injuries. Last season, Kansas City fi nished 12th in the NFL in scoring defense, 11th in total defense and sixth in pass defense. In the fi nal three games of the year with Crennel serving as both head coach and defensive coordinator, the Chiefs ranked third in the NFL in total yards allowed per game, second in net passing yards allowed per game and second in points allowed per game. S Eric Berry, who played in the Pro Bowl following his 2010 rookie season, was injured on the fi rst drive of the 2011 season and returns to a talented secondary that includes fellow S Kendrick Lewis and CBs Brandon Flowers and Stanford Routt. For Arizona, WR Larry Fitzgerald became the franchise s all-time leader in receiving yards, receiving TDs, total TDs and 100-yard performances during the 2011 season. Rookie CB Patrick Peterson became the fi rst player in NFL history to return four punts 80-plus yards for touchdowns. SS Adrian Wilson suffered a torn bicep during last year s training camp, but still started all 16 games and earned an invitation to his fi fth career Pro Bowl. QBs Kevin Kolb and John Skelton are battling for the starting position after both players saw significant playing time last year. Kolb was the regular starter but battled injuries and opened nine contests. Skelton played in eight games, including starts on seven occasions. CHIEFS-CARDINALS PRESEASON SERIES HISTORY Friday s contest between the Chiefs and Cardinals marks the 25th time that the franchises have faced off in the preseason. The Chiefs hold a 13-10-1 advantage and the series stands at 7-6-1 in the Chiefs favor during games played in Kansas City. Current Chiefs WR Steve Breaston caught a 14-yard goahead touchdown pass from QB Matt Leinart with 8:23 left in the third quarter of that contest to put Arizona up for good. CHIEFS-CARDINALS REGULAR SEASON SERIES HISTORY The Chiefs own an 8-2-1 (.773) advantage in regular season play against the Cardinals, including a 4-0-1 mark in games played in Kansas City, dating back to the original meeting on Nov. 22, 1970, which ended in a 6-6 tie at Kansas City s Municipal Stadium. CHIEFS HEAD COACH - ROMEO CRENNEL Kansas City Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt and General Manager Scott Pioli announced Romeo Crennel as the club s 12th head coach in franchise history on Jan. 9, 2012. Crennel joined the Chiefs in January, 2010 as the club s defensive coordinator. On Dec. 12, 2011, Crennel was named head coach of the Chiefs after the first 13 games of the season. In the final three games under Crennel, the Chiefs went 2-1 with a victory over the previously undefeated Green Bay Packers. Crennel enters his 31st season as a coach in the NFL in 2012. He has coached in six Super Bowls and has been a member of five teams that have claimed Super Bowl wins. Before joining the Chiefs organization in 2010, Crennel served a four-year stint as head coach of the Cleveland Browns (2005-08). Prior to joining the Browns in 2005, Crennel spent four seasons as New England s defensive coordinator (2001-04). During that four-year span, the Patriots won three Super Bowls (XXXVI, XXXVIII and XXXIX) and he was named the NFL s Assistant Coach of the Year in 2003. He also served as defensive coordinator/defensive line coach in Cleveland (2000), defensive line coach with the New York Jets (1997-99) and also coached in New England (1993-96), earning a berth in Super Bowl XXXI with that squad. Crennel s initial NFL coaching experience came with the New York Giants from 1981-92. During that 12-year span, he was part of New York s victories in Super Bowls XXI and XXV. He also made collegiate coaching stops at Georgia Tech (1980), Mississippi (1978-79), Texas Tech (1975-77) and Western Kentucky (1970-74). He was named to the position on Jan. 14, 2007 after 10 seasons as an NFL assistant coach. He also played nine seasons in the league as a tight end/h-back for the Atlanta Falcons (1985-88), Washington Redskins (1989-90) and New York Jets (1991-93) after a standout career at Georgia Tech. With 44 victories in five seasons with the Cardinals, Whisenhunt is the franchise leader in wins by a head coach after surpassing Jim Hanifan (39) and Don Coryell (42) in 2011. He became the first coach in franchise history with a.500 record or better in each of his first three seasons and the Cardinals have gone.500 or better in four of his five seasons. Whisenhunt led the Cardinals to NFL West titles in 2008 and 2009, the team s first back-to-back division crowns since 1974 and 1975. Before joining Arizona, Whisenhunt spent the previous six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He served as offensive coordinator during his final three seasons, including a victory in Super Bowl XL. He was the tight ends coach for his first three seasons in Pittsburgh and also coached for the New York Jets (2000), Cleveland Browns (1999) and Baltimore Ravens (1997-98). Training camp is about us continuing our development and evaluating our players, Chiefs Head Coach Romeo Crennel said. We are very excited to be hosting another NFL team in St. Joseph. This will give us another opportunity to further evaluate our team under a different set of circumstances before we get into our preseason schedule. We could not be happier to host two NFL franchises this year at Missouri Western, Missouri Western State University Director of Athletics Kurt McGuffi n said. There is a buzz in the air about camp this summer, and with the addition of the Cardinals, the interest is elevated around St. Joseph and beyond. We would like to thank the Chiefs for bringing us this opportunity. Arizona joins Kansas City s training camp in St. Joseph after opening its preseason slate on Sunday, Aug. 5 when the Cardinals took on the New Orleans Saints in the 2012 Pro Football Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio. There are many benefits to this arrangement and we appreciate Coach Crennel and the Chiefs working to make this happen, Cardinals Head Coach Ken Whisenhunt said. Logistically, it makes a lot of sense since we play Sunday night in Canton and then Friday night at Kansas City, but I ve always found there s also great value in getting work against another team in a setting like this. We re looking forward to it. Kansas City Chiefs VS. arizona cardinals Friday, AUG. 10, 2012

In his four seasons with the Chiefs, Willie anchored one of the best offensive lines in the National Football League. His election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame solidifies his place as one of the greatest offensive lineman in the history of professional football. Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt Willie s unique abilities, work ethic and dedication to the game played a major part in allowing the Chiefs to become the most prolific offense in the National Football League during his time with Kansas City. He set the standard for the play at his position and was the single-most dominating pass protector of his era. His performance enabled his teammates to achieve standards of excellence that still remain record-setting performances in NFL history. Al Saunders Offensive Coordinator, 2001-05 I just don t know if there s ever been one any better. I don t know of anybody that was as complete of a player as he was. He had no limitations. He is a unique guy, athletically and in every way. He s very bright, very big and fast and explosive. It was far better to coach with him than against him. Dick Vermeil Head Coach, 2001-05 His consistency and what he brought to the field on game day really changed the way the position was played. Willie really made a huge difference with the attitude he brought to the playing field, which was something special. I know for a fact that we wouldn t have been able to accomplish what we did offensively in the early 2000s without him. I would say that he is as talented as any left tackle that s ever played the game. When you talk about big, athletic left tackles, he definitely has to be in that argument for one of the best to ever play, if not the best to ever play the position.
