THE COACHES MIKE TOMLIN was named the 16th head coach in Pittsburgh Steelers history on Jan. 22, 2007. Tomlin became the youngest head coach in NFL history to both coach in and win a Super Bowl when he led the Steelers to a 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII. By winning the Super Bowl in only his second season as a head coach, he also became the fastest to win a Super Bowl title in Steelers history. Tomlin is one of only seven coaches in league history to win a Super Bowl within his first two seasons as an NFL head coach. Tomlin compiled a 43-21 record in the regular season during his first four years as head coach. His.672 winning percentage after four seasons tied for first in team history. WIth nine wins so far in 2011, Tomlin became only the second Steelers head coach to post winning records in each of his first five seasons. The Steelers offense ranked 14 th in the NFL (14 th passing, 11 th rushing) despite playing its first four games without its starting quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger. Pittsburgh s defense ranked second in the NFL (first vs. run, 12 th vs. pass) while leading the NFL with 48 quarterback sacks. The Steelers set a team record and led the NFL, allowing only 62.8 rushing yards per game. The Steelers continued to be dominant at Heinz Field under Tomlin in 2010. Pittsburgh finished with a 5-3 home record in 2010 after finishing 7-1 (2007), 6-2 (2008) and 6-2 (2009) at home during Tomlin s first three seasons. Tomlin s 24-8 record and.750 winning percentage at home after four seasons ranks second in Steelers history. Tomlin was a three-year starter at wide receiver at William and Mary (1990-94) and finished his career with 101 receptions for 2,046 yards and a school-record 20 TD catches. A first-team All- Yankee Conference selection in 1994, he established a school record with a 20.2 yards-per-catch average. Tomlin was the NFL s second-youngest head coach in 2007, and he became only the second Steelers coach in team history to win at least 10 games during his first year at the helm. The Steelers posted a 7-1 record at home in 2007 and were 5-1 in the AFC North (3-0 at home). Tomlin became only the second Steelers head coach to win his first three games. Tomlin led the Steelers to a 10-6 record in 2007, and became just the second coach in team history to post a winning record, win a division title and earn a playoff berth in his inaugural season. STEVE SPAGNUOLO is in his third season as head coach of the St. Louis Rams. In 2010, Spagnuolo s team made a six-game improvement from 2009, finishing in second place in the NFC West. The six-game swing was the second biggest improvement in the NFL from 2009-10. The Rams also finished with a home record of 5-3, the first winning record at home for St. Louis since 2004. Spagnuolo came to St. Louis after serving as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants from 2007-08. Needs 37 completions to eclipse his own single season franchise record for the most completions in one season (337 in 2009). Looks to throw for at least 300 yards for the fifth time in the last nine games. Would mark the 21st 300-yard passing performance of Roethlisberger s career and the sixth of this season, setting a career-high for 300+ passing games during the regular season (five in 2009). Looks for sixth 100.0+ rating of the season and 47th of his career. WR Hines Ward Needs nine receptions to reach 1,000 for his career. He would be eighth player in NFL history to reach the mark and the first in Steelers history. Ward will become the second player in NFL history to reach 1,000 career receptions and win multiple Super Bowls (Hall of Famer Jerry Rice ). TE Heath Miller Needs three receptions to surpass Hall of Famer Lynn Swann (336) for the fourth most receptions in Steelers history. Is 14 yards shy of passing Santonio Holmes (3,835) for ninth place on the Steelers all-time receiving yards list. WR Antonio Brown Needs 16 receiving yards to reach 1,000 on the season for the first time in his career. Will join Mike Wallace, who already went over 1,000 yards, as the fourth Steeler duo to each register over 1,000 receiving yards in the same season since 2000.

Sustaining Success: Pittsburgh has made the playoffs seven times, including this season, and won the AFC North five times since the divisional realignment in 2002. The Steelers won the AFC North Division for three times in last four years. In order for Pittsburgh to win the division this season it will have to finish a game ahead of the Baltimore Ravens because the Ravens own the tie-breaker since they beat the Steelers twice this season. While Pittsburgh faces St. Louis at home this week before traveling to Cleveland in Week 17, the Ravens will face the Browns at home this Saturday and then will travel to Cincinnati for their regular season finale. The Steelers have won 20 division titles since the NFL merger in 1970, the most in the NFL during that time. The following is a list of teams that have won the most division titles and qualified for the playoffs since 2002: Team Playoffs Division Titles Indianapolis 9 7 New England** 8 8 Philadelphia 7 6 Pittsburgh* 7 5 Green Bay** 7 5 San Diego 5 5 *Clinched playoff spot this season **Clinched division title this season College Style: The Steelers will play the St. Louis Rams this Saturday. It will be Pittsburgh s first regular-season game on a Saturday since 12/24/05, a 41-0 victory at Cleveland. The Steelers have won their last three regular-season games played on Saturday. The last time Pittsburgh lost a regular season Saturday game was 12/18/99, 35-19 at Kansas City. The Steelers have not lost a home game played on Saturday during the regular season since 12/26/87 (19-13 to Cleveland). Overall, Pittsburgh is 3-1 in home regular-season games played on Saturday. Holiday Cheer: The Steelers are 3-3 all-time in regular season games played on Christmas Eve. This will be the Steelers first game played on Christmas Eve since 2006, when they lost to Baltimore, 31-7, at home. The previous season Pittsburgh won, 41-0, at Cleveland on Christmas Eve. Controlling The NFC: The Steelers have won 25 of their past 31 regular-season games versus teams in the NFC, dating back to 2003, including winning two of three this season. The Steelers are 99-59-1 all-time against the NFC, including 56-19-1 at home. Pittsburgh has won seven of its last nine games against NFC opponents. The Steelers have six consecutive home victories versus NFC teams. Pittsburgh last lost to an NFC team at Heinz Field in 2008 (21-14, vs. New York Giants). Prior to losing to the Giants, Pittsburgh had won eight straight games versus NFC teams at home. The Steelers are 6-2 versus the NFC in the Super Bowl. If You Build It, They Will Come: The Steelers registered three of the top-10 all-time attendance records for a single game during the 2010 season, including the single-game record. In the 2010 AFC Championship victory over the N.Y. Jets, the Steelers broke the single-game record. The attendance of 66,662 surpassed the old mark of 65,597 set October 25, 2009, during a game versus the Minnnesota Vikings. The previous regular-season record was 65,392, which was set on November 16, 2009 versus Cincinnati. Pittsburgh set the team home attendance record in 2009 by averaging 63,458 (507,882 total). The Steelers need an TEAM NOTES attendance of at least 63,685 this Saturday versus the Rams to set a new record Pittsburgh has sold out 307 straight games at home, dating back to Nov. 5, 1972 versus Cincinnati. Pittsburgh is 48-15 (.762) at home over the past seven seasons, including a 6-1 record in 2011. This season marked the third time in the past five seasons that the Steelers opened 4-0 at home. In five seasons under Head Coach Mike Tomlin the Steelers have won at least five games at home each season. The last time Pittsburgh did not win at least five home games in a season was 2003. Since 2004, Pittsburgh and New England are the only teams in the league to register at least five wins at home during each regular season. Pittsburgh finished the 2004 regular season with an undefeated (8-0) home record for only the third time in team history and for the first time in 25 years. The Steelers finished the 1979 regular season with an undefeated home record (8-0) and eventually won Super Bowl XIV. The Steelers were also undefeated at home (7-0) in 1972. The following is a look at the list of the Steelers records at home since 2004: Year Record 2004 8-0 2005 5-3 2006 5-3 2007 7-1 2008 6-2 2009 6-2 2010 5-3 2011 6-1 Toughest Division?: The AFC North is the only division to have two teams with 10+ wins. It is also the only division that has three teams with at least eight victories. The AFC North is first in the NFL for most wins as a division (32), and it has the highest winning percentage (.571) of any division in the NFL. How are these teams having so much success? It s simple, defense. The AFC North has given up the fewest points allowed as a division (1,011), and it s the only division that all four teams have given up less than 300 points. In addition, all four teams are in the top-14 in the NFL in total defense. The AFC North also boasts three top-10 pass defenses (Pittsburgh 1, Cleveland 3, Baltimore 5, Cincinnati 11) and three top-10 rush defenses in the NFL (Baltimore 2, Pittsburgh 6, Cincinnati 9). The Steelers played a total of five games in primetime and finished 3-2, playing three times on Sunday night (2-1), once on Thursday night (1-0) and once on Monday night (0-1). Under Head Coach Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh is 6-1 on Monday Night Football. Road Warriors: The Steelers have had great success playing away from Heinz Field over the last decade. Dating back to the start of 2010 season, the Steelers have won 11 of their past 15 road games, including winning three of their last four. Since the beginning of the 2000 season, the Steelers own the fourth-best road winning percentage in the NFL. The following is a list of the top road winning percentages since 2000: Team W L T Pct. New England 63 33 0.656 Philadelphia 61 33 1.647 Indianapolis 59 36 0.621 Pittsburgh 57 38 0.600 New Orleans 56 40 0.583 New York Giants 54 41 0.568 Ground Success: In four of the past five games the Steelers have registered at least 28 carries and over 100 yards rushing in each (147 on 28 vs. Cleveland / 136 on 33 vs. Cincinnati / 108 on 28 carries at Kansas City / 105 yards on 30 carries at Cincinnati). The Steelers have now recorded at least 28 carries in nine games this season, winning all nine. In eight of the past 10 games, Pittsburgh has outrushed its opponent. In Weeks 13 and 14 the Steelers totaled 136 and 147 rushing yards, their third and fourth highest rushing totals of the season. In Weeks 5 and 6, the Steelers recorded 174 and 185 rushing yards, marking the first time Pittsburgh reached at least 160 rushing yards in back-to-back games since 2010 (162, 11/21/10 vs. Oak and 206, 11/28/10 at Buf). The Steelers have achieved success on the ground by using a number of running backs. Four different Steelers have over 120 rushing yards through 14 games and two have eclipsed 350 yards (RB Rashard Mendenhall, 774/RB Isaac Redman, 352). All the backs have combined to total 1,573 rushing yards on 370 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. If that average holds it will mark the third consecutive season that Pittsburgh has averaged over 4.0 yards per rush (2010-4.1, 2009-4.2). Limiting QBs: Pittsburgh has faced 15 different quarterbacks this season, holding eight to a passer rating lower than 73.0. Over the last five games, Pittsburgh s defense has recorded eight interceptions by six different players (Lawrence Timmons and William Gay at Cincinnati, Ike Taylor, Ryan Mundy and Keenan Lewis at Kansas City, Taylor vs. Cincinnati and Gay and Troy Polamalu vs. Cleveland). The Steelers have also only allowed one quarterback to throw for 300 yards and have held 10 under 200 yards. The only quarterback to throw for 300 yards on the Steelers this season was Joe Flacco and he attempted 47 passes, completing 28 to get to 300 yards in Week 9. The Steelers limited Tom Brady to 198 passing yards, after he averaged 360.5 thourgh his first six games this season. It was the first time Brady was held under 200 yards in 2011. Opp QB Cmp Pct. Turning Up the Heat: Pittsburgh has registered 30 sacks in 2011. The Steelers have registered 25 of the 30 sacks at Heinz Field to rank near the top in the NFL for sacks at home. In Week 14, LB Jason Worilds recorded two of the Steelers three sacks, the first multi-sack game of his career. LB Larry Foote and NT Steve McClendon combined for the other sack. LB James Harrison registered all three of Pittsburgh s sacks against Baltimore in Week 9 and versus Cincinnati in Week 13. He now has five career games with at least three sacks. In Week 6 versus Jacksonville, Pittsburgh registered four of its five sacks in the first half, marking the 16 th time since 1991 and the first time since 11/3/08 vs. Washington (4) that the Steelers recorded at least four sacks in the first half.

The Steelers recorded five sacks in Week 2 versus Seattle, tying for the third highest single-game total of the Mike Tomlin era and the most since registering six versus Oakland on 11/21/10. On the road the Steelers have recorded sacks at key times. Against Arizona in Week 7 LB LaMarr Woodley recorded a sack on third-and-seven at the PIT 45-yard line that forced a punt. Woodley also forced Cardinals QB Kevin Kolb into an intentionally grounding penalty in the end zone that resulted in a safety. In Week 3 versus Indianapolis, Harrison forced a fumble on a sack of Curtis Painter that S Troy Polamalu returned 16 yards for a touchdown to give Pittsburgh a 20-13 lead in the fourth quarter. Since 1994, the Steelers have led the AFC in sacks six times and the entire NFL three times, including in 2010. Since 2004, the Steelers have the most sacks in the NFL with 336. Sacks became an official NFL statistic in 1982, however, a record of passers tackled was kept prior to that time.
