He added his mount travelled only fairly with him throughout the event and when placed under pressure approaching the home turn, his mount was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The post race condition and immediate racing plans of the gelding will be followed up with the Cummings stable in the days subsequent. Kathmandu when questioned, R Hutchings stated he was instructed to have the gelding settle in a midfield position, if possible. He added that after beginning particularly well, his mount was racing in a prominent position in the early stages, but shortly after, near the 1300m, he felt his mount was reluctant to maintain its position when racing tight to the inside of Redemption Road, therefore he steadied his mount. During this time, Redemption Road was able to cross him as his mount got its head up and proved difficult to steady. He said that approaching the 900m, his mount was not travelling comfortably and for this reason, he was unable to make use of his mount in an endeavour to maintain his position on the back of Redemption Road, which ultimately allowed Night Breaker to shift into a position in advance of him. R Hutchings was advised that wherever possible, he should ensure that he maintains advantageous positions in similar circumstances. Zigamore rider A Bullock momentarily lost the use his nearside rein at the 75m after his mount was inclined to hang out badly. On Angels Wings G Buckley explained that for some distance in the early part of the straight, the gelding hung in significantly and in an endeavour to correct the horse, he attempted to pull the whip through from his left hand into his right near the 250m. He said, however, that he was unable to do so due to the manner in which On Angels Wings was racing and he felt that any slackening of the rein would result in On Angels Wings shifting ground, so he therefore proceeded to ride the gelding as best as he could given the circumstances. He said that the extent of On Angels Wings hanging in reduced over the latter stages, however it still proved difficult for him to ride the gelding in his usual manner. The post race condition and immediate racing plans of the gelding will be followed up with the trainer Mr N Mayfield-Smith in the days subsequent.
