FOREWORD So you re planning a trip... Your membership in an USLBA Southwest Division Club is your open invitation to visit any or all the other 33 clubs in the Division. When you re touring the Southland, take time to stop at some of them along your route. With this book of maps to guide you, you ll be able to find them easily. Introduce yourself as a member of your club. You ll be more than welcome. If you have time, they d love to have you join in a game! If you re touring the country, locate the clubs on your route in the directory of lawn bowls clubs in the United States. * In addition to the Southwest Division, the USLBA has six other divisions: Pacific Inter-Mountain (Northern California), Northwest, South-Central, Central, Eastern, and Southeast. There are over 100 clubs in the contiguous United States. Outside the U.S. you ll find over 9,000 lawn bowling clubs: 4,000 in Europe (mostly in the British Isles), over 3,400 in Australia, 300 in Canada, and some 1,600 scattered over the globe, including clubs in New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Fiji, Singapore, New Guinea, Burma, India, Malaya, Ceylon, Pakistan, Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Rhodesia, Israel, China, and the Argentine. They all extend a warm welcome to visiting lawn bowlers, with an invitation to roll a game! Wherever in the world you might visit and stop to play bowls, you ll be playing by the same rules. Finding a club... Maps with directions to the lawn bowls clubs of the Southwest Division are grouped in this map book by the Division Districts in which they are located. The Southwest Division includes that part of Southern California north of the Mexican border to the northern county line of San Luis Obispo, Kern and San Bernardino counties. It is comprised of seven Districts: Central, Citrus, Coast, North, Orange, South, and West. The coverage of each District starts with the map page showing the relative locations of all the Clubs in the District and a listing of the addresses and phone numbers of its Clubs. The individual Club maps follow the District map in alphabetical order. An alphabetical index to all the Clubs is provided on the inside of the back cover. Each Club map has two sections, an overview map and detailed directions with a companion-detailed map. The Overview Map shows the relative location of the club within its geographical area, and the major access routes that serve it. The Directions and its companion-detailed map take you from the major access routes (freeways or major surface streets) to the club location. ii

ALMANSOR ST. and proceed to ALMANSOR PARK. Enter parking area per diagram. From the North: Take surface streets to MISSION & CHAPEL, proceed per map to parking area. Parking: Nearest parking for bowling is south of the restaurant/clubhouse complex, a good block walk to the greens. Street parking is available, but not on street cleaning days check with the club, lest you get ticketed! They will direct you to alternate parking. 2

FRIENDLY VALLEY LAWN BOWLS CLUB (ONE GREEN) From the ANTELOPE VALLEY FREEWAY, (SR-14), going NE): exit at PLACERITA CANYON ROAD. Go left under the freeway to SIERRA HIGHWAY. turn right onto SIERRA HIGHWAY and go approximately 1.5 miles to FRIENDLY VALLEY PARKWAY. Turn left on FRIENDLY VALLEY PARKWAY and go to the GUARD GATE. Clear and proceed to the AVENUE OF THE OAKS. Turn left on AVENUE OF THE OAKS to N. OAK HIGHLAND DRIVE (the first stop sign), turn right on N. OAK HIGHLAND DRIVE for 1 block. Then turn right on W. MESA OF THE OAKS to the first driveway about one and a half blocks distance into the parking lot overlooking the green. 3

PASADENA LAWN BOWLING CLUB (TWO GREENS) I-21O SOUTHBOUND, I-210 WESTBOUND AND SR-134 EASTBOUND: Transition to DEL MAR BLVD. exit. Proceed to DEL MAR BLVD. and turn left onto DEL MAR BLVD. Continue onto FAIR OAKS AVE and turn left onto FAIR OAKS AVE. and continue about a block to enter the parking area. I-10 EASTBOUND, I-10 WESTBOUND AND I-5 NORTH- BOUND: Transition to the PASADENA FREEWAY, (SR-110) northbound to Pasadena where it transitions to ARROYO PARK- WAY. Continue to DEL MAR BLVD. POMONA LAWN BOWLING CLUB (TWO GREENS) From the I-10, take the TOWNE AVE. exit northbound. Turn left on ARROW HWY. and go about 0.2 mile. Turn right into PALOMARES PARK S east entrance. Follow the park road around to the greens. From the I-210, on the transition to SR-57, take the ARROW HIGHWAY exit. Continue on the ARROW HIGHWAY to PALOMARES PARK S east entrance. Turn left onto the park road and follow it around to the greens. 8

REDLANDS LAWN BOWLING CLUB (TWO GREENS) From the west on the I-10, take the UNIVERSITY ST. exit. Turn left onto UNIVERSITY ST. and go under the freeway and proceed north on UNIVERSITY ST. The greens are on the left after you cross the railroad tracks. From the east on the I-10, take the CYPRESS AVE. exit. Go straight and cross CYPRESS AVE. to CITRUS AVE. Then turn left onto CITRUS AVE. and get into the right lane. Pass under the freeway to UNIVERSITY ST. and turn right going north passing under the freeway again.the greens are on the left after you cross the railroad tracks. 9

RIVERSIDE LAWN BOWLING CLUB (THREE GREENS) Travel to SR-60 (via I-10, I-15, or I-215) From SR-60 take the MARKET ST. exit. Go south on MARKET ST. to the first stop light. Turn right to enter the park and then turn right again and go past the armory. This is a one-way street and goes past the greens after about 0.25 mile. The greens are on the left. 10

From the North on LAGUNA CANYON ROAD, (SR-133), turn right onto NORTH COAST HIGHWAY, (SR-1), about 0.3 mile turn left onto JASMINE ST. One short block later JASMINE ST. dead-ends at CLIFF DRIVE. Turn right onto CLIFF DRIVE and the greens are a half block on the left. From the South proceed to NORTH COAST HIGHWAY, (SR-1), then about 0.3 mile turn left onto JASMINE ST. MacKENZIE PARK LAWN BOWLS CLUB (TWO GREENS) From US 101 take LAS POSITAS ROAD exit. Proceed toward the mountains (with the golf course on your left). At the end of the golf course is McCAW AVE. At this point the driveway entrance to MACKENZIE PARK is on your right. Enter the park driveway, go down a grade, make a sharp U-turn up the hill to the upper parking lot and the greens 19

OXNARD-JOSLYN LAWN BOWLS CLUB (ONE GREEN) From the north on US 101, exit OXNARD BLVD (SR-1), then proceed to DEODAR AVE. (easy to miss), turn right and proceed two blocks to NORTH C STREET then left on NORTH C STREET, continue to the green on the left. From the south on US 101, exit VINEYARD AVE. (SR-232), and proceed to OXNARD BLVD. (SR-1).and turn left, then proceed to DEODAR AVE. (easy to miss), turn right and proceed two blocks to NORTH C STREET then left on NORTH C STREET, continue to the green on the left. 20

SANTA BARBARA LAWN BOWLS CLUB (TWO GREENS) From US 101, take the CARRILLO STREET exit to BATH STREET, then turn left onto BATH STREET (which is a one-way street north bound). Go three blocks to VICTORIA STREET and turn right. Cross DE LA VINA STREET and enter the parking lot on your right. The greens are straight ahead. This is a public parking lot but you will need to get a permit from the clubhouse. Put this permit in your window immediately. 21

SANTA MARIA LAWN BOWLING CLUB (ONE GREEN - Artificial) From US 101, exit onto MAIN STREET (SR-166) west bound. Go about 0.8 mile and turn left onto S. MILLER STREET. Go three blocks and turn right onto COOK STREET, then take the first left onto McCLELLAND STREET. The green is a short distance down the street on the left. 22

LEISURE WORLD LAWN BOWLING CLUB (THREE GREENS - one Artificial) From the north on I-5, exit EL TORO ROAD. The off ramp empties onto PASEO DE VALENCIA, which merges into EL TORO ROAD heading west. About 1 mile down EL TORO ROAD, turn right onto MOULTON PARKWAY. About 0.1 mile down MOULTON PKWY., enter Leisure World gate #12. From the north on I-405, exit IRVINE CENTER DR. heading south which becomes MOULTON PKWY.Then follow MOULTON PKWY. and enter Leisure World gate #12. From the south on I-5, exit EL TORO ROAD. Turn left, heading west on EL TORO ROAD, turn right onto MOULTON PARKWAY. About 0.1 mile down MOULTON PKWY., enter Leisure World gate #12. Follow the one-way drive to the parking lot with the greens beyond. 25

SAN CLEMENTE LAWN BOWLING CLUB (ONE GREEN) From the SAN DIEGO FWY.(I-5), exit AVENIDA CALIFIA westbound, immediately then left onto AVENUE DEL PRESIDENTE, paralling I-5. Proceed to the AVENIDA SAN LUIS REY then turn left, cross over I-5 and then cross EL CAMINO REAL and CALLE DEL COMMERICIO. Turn left into San Luis Rey Park, which contains a children s playground and three tennis courts in addition to the bowling green. 26

THE GROVES LAWN BOWLING CLUB (ONE GREEN) From the I-5, exit JEFFERY ROAD heading north-east. Proceed past TRABUCO ROAD to IRVINE BLVD. Turn left onto IRVINE BLVD. and go about 0.25 mile. JOSLYN-LAKE HODGES LAWN BOWLING CLUB (TWO GREENS) From the I-15, exit WEST BERNARDO DR./POMERADO RD. at the south end of the bridge over Lake Hodges and head west on WEST BERNARDO DR. Follow WEST BERNARDO DR. as it curves to the left around the hill. At the first stop light, turn right and continue down the hill past the Recreation building and the Senior Center on the left. The greens are on the left immediately beyond the Senior Center. Parking is on both sides of the roadway opposite the greens. 29

OAKS NORTH BOWLS CLUB (ONE GREEN) From the I-15, exit WEST BERNARDO DR./POMERADO RD. at the south end of the bridge over Lake Hodges and head east on POMERADO RD. Follow POMERADO RD. as it curves to the right until it is heading south. About 1.78 miles from I-15 is the traffic control light at OAKS NORTH DR. Turn left onto OAKS NORTH DR. and proceed a short distance to the top of the hill. The parking lot is on the left and the green is adjacent. 30

SAN DIEGO LAWN BOWLING CLUB (TWO GREENS) From SR-163, exit UNIVERSITY AVE. ramp and becomes 6th AVE. when you cross UNIVERSITY AVE. Proceed down 6th AVE. to the light at UPAS ST. There are two options for a left turn, take the rightmost, the one-way BALBOA DR. The greens are on the left 0.7 mile down BALBOA DR. From I-5, exit westbound at SASSAFRAS ST. and continue to its junction with PACIFIC HWY. Turn left onto PACIFIC HWY. and continue about 0.5 mile to LAUREL ST. Turn left onto LAUREL ST. and proceed to 6th AVE. Turn left onto 6th AVE. and continue to UPAS ST. Turn right onto the one-way BALBOA DR. The greens are on the left 0.7 mile down BALBOA DR. 31

Follow WILSHIRE BLVD. to ROXBURY DR. about 0.25 mile past the intersection with SANTA MONICA BLVD. Turn right onto ROXBURY DR. and proceed three blocks to OLYMPIC BLVD. The greens are across OLYMPIC BLVD. on the right. From I-10, Exit ROBERTSON BLVD. or LA CIENEGA DR. Proceed north to OLYMPIC BLVD. Turn left onto OLYMPIC BLVD. and go about one mile to ROXBURY DR. Turn left onto ROXBURY DR. and the greens are on the right. Parking is on Roxbury Dr. and Olympic Blvd. Both sides are limited to four hours. One side has metered parking, the other side is free. 33

HERMOSA BEACH LAWN BOWLING CLUB (ONE GREEN) From the north on the SAN DIEGO FWY. (I-405), Exit SR-107, (HAWTHORNE BLVD.) Continue about 0.8 mile to the intersection with SR-91 (ARTESIA BLVD.). Turn right onto ARTESIA BLVD. and go about 2.4 miles to the intersection with SR-1 (PACIFIC COAST HWY.) Turn left onto PACIFIC COAST HWY. Continue on to the intersection of 8th ST. Turn right onto 8th ST. to VALLEY DR. Turn right on VALLEY DR. The green is on the left. From the south on the SAN DIEGO FWY. (I-405), Exit SR-91 (ARTESIA BLVD.) and go about 2.4 miles to the intersection with SR-1 (PACIFIC COAST HWY.) Turn left onto PACIFIC COAST HWY. Continue on to the intersection of 8th ST. Turn right onto 8th ST. to VALLEY DR. Turn right on VALLEY DR. The green is on the left. Parking is available on Valley Dr. opposite Clark Park. 34

HOLMBY PARK LAWN BOWLING CLUB (TWO GREENS) From the SAN DIEGO FWY. (I-405), Exit to eastbound WILSHIRE BLVD. (toward WESTWOOD) Follow WILSHIRE BLVD. about 1.7 miles to the traffic light at the intersection with COMSTOCK AVE. Turn left onto COM- STOCK AVE. and go 0.2 mile to HOLMBY PARK where the greens are located. Street parking is limited to 2 hours Monday through Friday; the club has temporary permits available for longer times. 35

SANTA MONICA LAWN BOWLS CLUB (ONE GREEN) From the SANTA MONICA FWY. (I-10), Exit CLOVER- FIELD BLVD. heading north. Bear right onto 26th ST. for about 0.9 mile to the intersection with WILSHIRE BLVD. Turn left onto WILSHIRE BLVD. and the greens are one and a half blocks further on the right between 25th ST. and CHELSEA ST. From the SAN DIEGO FWY.
