Swim Academy LTAD Fundamentals The Leatherhead swimming academy will teach swimmers from non-swimmer up to a level where the swimmers will be able to join the competitive program at Leatherhead Swimming Club. The structure of the swimming academy will run in line with the National Teaching plan from the ASA. The program consists of 10 stages for the swimmers to progress through. The swimmers will learn through structured lessons and will be assessed each term for the stage that they are completing. The swimmers will have the opportunity to purchase badges and certificates at the end of each successfully completed stage. Swimmers may be selected by the coaching staff for inclusion in to Leatherhead swimming clubs competitive program. Transition Silver and Transition Blue LTAD-Fundamentals/Swim Skills Girls 8+, Boys8 + The swimmers must be at Stage 8 of the ASA National teaching Plan to be selected to join the competitive program of LSC. Swimmers may be selected before stage 8 if the coaching staff believe that the swimmer has the ability to train with Transition Silver and Blue without loss of form. Swimmers will be introduced to skills such as using the pace clock and lane discipline. Swimmers will also be taught basic mobility exercise that will be performed before training sessions. The main emphasis for Transition Silver and Blue is the development of their swimming skills and stamina in training. Swimmers will have one skills based session and one stamina based session each week. At this stage of the swimmers development training is more important than competing. The swimmers must ensure that they have the skills and training behind them if they are going to reach their full potential in their swimming. The swimmers in this squad should be attending all of the training sessions offered. The swim sessions currently offered to Transition Silver are; Friday Leatherhead Lesiure Centre 6.30-7.30pm Sunday St John s School 3-4pm The swim sessions currently offered to Transition Blue are; Thursday- St John s School- 6.30-7.30pm Sunday St John s School 3-4pm Equipment Checklist Swimmers must have the following equipment at all training sessions; Drinks Bottle (one litre size)-cleaned regularly Kick Board Pull Buoy Fins (Short zoomer style) Goggles (including a spare adjusted pair) Swim Hats and spare if worn (must be LSC hats) Squad Criteria Swimmers will complete training to the full this will include all aspects of training. Swimmers/Parents will inform the coach of any injury or illness before the session, the coach will then decide if it is appropriate for the swimmer to train. All swimmers will arrive on time to training. Swimmers that are late for sessions without a valid reason will not be permitted to train that session. Swimmers in Transition Silver and Blue must have a positive approach and attitude in training and competition. Swimmers must have all equipment at all training sessions (as set out in equipment checklist). Failure to have all equipment may result in being excluded from the training session. The main emphasis for county squad is the development of their swimming skills and stamina in training. At this stage of the swimmers development training is more important than competing. The swimmers must ensure that they have the skills and training behind them if they are going to reach their full potential in their swimming. As part of our club development regular time trials will run, this will give the swimmers the opportunity to have a go at racing and then put those skills in to practice in races in competition. The swimmers in this squad should select 3hours from the sessions offered. Ideally the swimmers should be attending all of the training sessions. The swim sessions currently offered to Regional squad are; Monday - Leatherhead Leisure Centre 6.30-8pm Wednesday- Downsend School- 6-7.30am Wednesday Leatherhead Leisure Centre- 8-9pm Thursday St John s School 7.30-9pm Friday - Leatherhead Leisure Centre 7.30-9pm (Club Night) Saturday- Leatherhead Leisure Centre- 6.15-8.15am Sunday St John s School 5.30-7.30pm Land training will also be included in the program as directed by the Regional Squad Coach. Long course training sessions will be offered to the squad through the season. The swimmers should ensure that they attend these training sessions in addition to their normal training program. Equipment checklist Swimmers must have the following equipment at all training sessions; Drinks Bottle (one litre size)-cleaned regularly Kick Board Pull Buoy Snorkel Fins (Short zoomer style and long fins) Hand Paddles Goggles (including a spare adjusted pair) Swim Hats and spare if worn (must be LSC hats) Training Log Book Squad Criteria Swimmers will complete training to the full this will include all aspects of training include mobility/stretching exercises before training sessions (10-15min). Swimmers/Parents will inform the coach of any injury or illness before the session, the coach will then decide if it is appropriate for the swimmer to train. All swimmers will arrive on time to training. Swimmers that are late for sessions without a valid reason will not be permitted to train that session. National Potential LTAD-Training to train-training to Compete Girls 11+, Boys 11+ The swimmers in this squad should be attending a minimum of 6 of the 9 and aim to complete two morning sessions training sessions offered. The swim sessions currently offered to National Potential are; Monday - St. Teresa's School 7.30-9.30pm Tuesday- Epsom College 6.15-7.45am Wednesday- Downsend School- 6-7.30am Wednesday Leatherhead Leisure Centre- 8-9pm Thursday- Epsom College 6.15-7.45am Thursday St John s School 7.30-9pm Friday - Leatherhead Leisure Centre 7.30-9pm (Club Night) Saturday- Leatherhead Leisure Centre- 6.15-8.15am Sunday Leatherhead Leisure Centre- 5-7pm Land training will also be included in the program as directed by the Regional Squad Coach. National Squad LTAD-Training to Compete-Training to Win Girls 12+, Boys 13+ The swimmers in this squad should be attending a minimum of 6 of the 9 training sessions offered. Ideally the swimmers should be attending all of the training sessions. The swim sessions currently offered to National squad are; Monday - St. Teresa's School 7.30-9.30pm Tuesday- Epsom College 6.15-7.45am Tuesday Leatherhead Leisure Centre 6.30-8pm Wednesday- Downsend School- 6-7.30am Wednesday Leatherhead Leisure Centre- 7-8.30pm Thursday - Epsom College 6.15-7.45am Thursday - Leatherhead Leisure Centre 6.30-8.30pm Friday - Leatherhead Leisure Centre 7.30-9pm (Club night) Saturday - Leatherhead Leisure Centre- 6.15-8.15am Land training will also be included in the program as directed by the Head Coach. Long course training sessions will be offered to the squad through the season. The swimmers should ensure that they attend these training sessions in addition to their normal training program. Equipment checklist Swimmers must have the following equipment at all training sessions; Drinks Bottle (one litre size)-cleaned regularly Kick Board Pull Buoy Snorkel Fins (Short zoomer style and long fins) Paddles (Hand and finger paddles) Heart rate monitor Goggles (including a spare adjusted pair) Swim Hats and spare if worn (must be LSC hats) Training Log Book Squad Criteria Swimmers will complete training to the full this will include all aspects of training include mobility/stretching exercises before training sessions (10-15min). Swimmers will inform the coach of any injury or illness before the session, the coach will then decide if it is appropriate for the swimmer to train. All swimmers will arrive on time to training. Swimmers that are late for sessions without a valid reason will not be permitted to train that session. Swimmers in National squad must have a positive approach and attitude in training and competition. Swimmers must be committed to performance level swimming. Swimmers must have all equipment at all training sessions (as set out in equipment checklist). Failure to have all equipment may result in being excluded from the training session. Swimmers must have a drinks bottle at every training session. Talent ID Program Swimmers that are identified by the coaching staff to be Talented may be fast tracked through squads. This is the call of the coaching staff with the final decision with the Head Coach. This fast tracking of these swimmers is to give them optimum chance to achieve full potential.
