General Rules 1. A squad member may not chew gum, eat, or drink on the field (cheering) or during practice, except at breaks called by the coach. 2. Squad members may not wear make-up to games or rallies. 3. Squad members are not restricted from other activities, but they will not be excused from meetings or events for other activities, except participation in a school sponsored event or performance. Any conflicts must be resolved by the squad member and the advisor(s). 4. Squad members must be able to work cooperatively with other members of the team. A squad member who cannot function cooperatively and positively will be counseled. If this does not solve the problem, disciplinary action will be taken at the coach s discretion. 5. Regulation uniforms are required for all performances and games unless the coach(es) direct otherwise. 6. Squad members must attend all events as scheduled by the coach(es) unless there is prior parental notice. 7. Excused absences from games, practices, or meetings must be requested by telephone or in writing by parents 24 hours prior to the game or meeting (except in case of emergency). The request for an excused absence will only be honored if the reason is of sufficient importance. Irresponsible excuses will not be honored. The coaches will not honor multiple excuses from the same person. 8. All appointments are to be scheduled at times other than practice, rally, game, or performances. 9. Every routine must be approved by the coach(es). 10. Squad members are expected to learn all routines taught to the squad. Good Citizenship: No excessive office referrals or suspensions 3. Regular school attendance (including no excessive tardies) Ineligibility: Each squad member begins the year with 25 points. Squad members will not be allowed to participate in activities, but must attend practice. Competitive squad members will be dropped to a non-competitive squad after losing 15 points. Loss of 25 points will result in dismissal from the squad.

Excused Absences All excused absences must be cleared by the coach(es). Excused absences are absences caused by: 1. Illness 2. Emergency family need 3. Participation in a school sponsored event 4. Participation in a religious observance 5. Accompanying family out of town Cost of Uniform There are two options to choose from: purchase or loan. Please choose the option that fits your needs. Please DO NOT send with application. This only needs to be returned once squad has been established. There will be a parent/student night, May 2 nd at 6:30 in Room 31, where your child can come try on uniform samples. This will allow you to determine the best fit for your child. The options are found at the end of the packet. All poms will be loaned, not purchased. Competition Competition is an important part of the Cheer program. This squad will be determined at April 18 th tryouts. Pep or Cheer squad will be determined based upon what team strengths are this year. Squad members need to consider the time commitment necessary to be a part of the competitive team. If selected for the competition squad, competition becomes a priority. Saturday practices may be held near competition performance time. Further documents and contracts will be given out to the competition squad members at a later date. The cost should not exceed $35.00 Camp We will be attending Buchanan High School s Elementary Cheer Camp in August. Arrangements have not been confirmed, but once they are, a letter will go home with the new squad members. The camp MUST be attended by all squad members, and will not exceed two days. We will be learning routines that will be used throughout the year. Therefore, it is crucial that all members are present.

Tryouts Clinics for tryouts will be held, in the new MPR on Monday, April 15 th, from 3:20-4:20, and Tuesday, April 16 th, from 3:20-4:20. All participants will be learning a dance and kick sequence on Monday and a cheer and a jump sequence on Tuesday. Parents are allowed to come to the clinics and video the performances, if desired. Music can be downloaded from DC website on the first day of clinics. Tryouts will be held Thursday, April 18 th, at 3:30pm, in the old MPR. The tryout process will conclude about 5:15. However, we might need to call-back some students. There will be NO after school transportation provided. All participants need to wear a light colored shirt (preferably white), and a dark colored pair of shorts or capris (preferably black or navy). Members trying out are not allowed to wear any clothing that represents a studio or gym. The participants will each receive a tryout number and will try out three at a time in sequential order. All participants will try out in front of three judges, two of which are not affiliated with Dry Creek. They will be judged on talent and showmanship. Any participant with a grade lower than a C in any subject area will not be eligible to try out. Parents will not be allowed to view the tryout, but will be allowed to stand outside the old MPR to support their child. Results will be posted by participant number on Dry Creek s website following the tryouts. If you do not have internet access, the list can be found Friday morning on the window of Room 31. The members will be listed by their tryout number, not by name. We will be taking a minimum of 15 members for the squad. Please understand that this is weighted as a point system. The outcome is fair and unbiased. All squad selections are final, and no exceptions will be made. Arguing with the coach(es)/judges after the tryout will not change the situation. If you have any questions regarding time commitment or obligations to the program, please contact me before the tryout process at christylilles@cusd.com.
