T-shirts may be worn with uniform pants/shorts/skirts OR jeans (tucked in with belts if worn with jeans). Athletic News Elementary cheerleading registration is due on Thursday, March 16th for girls currently in the 2nd-4th grade. The cheer packet can be found on the school website. Math Club Students who participate in the Math Club can wear their Math Club t-shirts with uniform pants, shorts or skirts, on Tuesday, March 14th for Pi Day. Counseling Corner This past week in guidance lessons, first and fifth grade learned about self-esteem. In fifth grade, the students assessed strengths and weaknesses of some favorite superheroes, and then their own. After, they created their own superhero based on their strengths! In first grade, the students drew a selfie of themselves based on what makes them great. In middle school, seventh grade talked about kindness and why it is important to put kindness out into the world. Sixth grade learned about Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, and then to be Understood. We talked about four different types of listening styles, and why attentive listening is the most important. Also, the whole middle school will be participating in the 40 Days of Kindness Challenge. Every student will have a chance to earn different colored beads based on acts of kindness. The bead colors are ranked to help differentiate what type of kindness act was performed. This will continue throughout Lent, and hopefully encourage our students to consciously put forth effort into being kind to others!

March 9, 2017 Kaleidoscope Connection - Page 3 Festival of Two Rivers Volunteers needed for Game Booths As you all are aware it takes many volunteers to make the Festival of Two Rivers Fair a success. We need approximately 650 hours of volunteer time to man the game booths. Therefore, we are asking each family to have at least one adult to support our school and parish by volunteering to work in the game booths. In an effort to assist the Home and School officers and room mothers in making a schedule for each day we have set up a form on the St. Alphonsus Church website (www.st-alphonsus.net). We are asking you to go to the website and complete the Festival of Two Rivers/Game Booth Volunteer Form. Festival Dates and hours needed: April 28 th (4:30 pm to 11 pm), April 29 th (9:30 am to 10pm) and April 30 th (10:30 5:00 pm). Please indicate all days and times you would be available to volunteer. Based on the number of families with students in our school we should be able to cover the booths by assigning each adult a two hour shift. Please complete the form ASAP but no later than April 2, 2017. Once we have completed the schedule we will confirm the day and time you have been assigned. If you have any questions please contact the Home & School President, Veronica Craven at veronicalisa@cox.net. If you would prefer to fill out a paper copy, forms are available in the school office. Directions for website: www.st-alphonsus.net Once you are on the church website home page, select Online Giving We Share located on right side of screen under What s New? Under featured giving opportunity you will see Festival of Two Rivers/Game Booth Volunteers Form, scroll down click on Volunteer Now. On the first screen you will need to select how many adults you will be registering. Once you have entered the number of volunteers, scroll down and you should see a header Ticket # - Adult Volunteer - SAS and PSR Parents. You need to complete ticket for each volunteer. Please list all applicable children and the grade they are in. After completing the form you will be asked to indicate name and phone number again for the person filling form out. Then you will submit the form. If you have any questions about the website please feel free to contact Lisa Deaton, Fair Chair, at (225)933-3242 or larmas1@aol.com. Thank you for your continued support.
