The provides owners and breeders with the opportunity to showcase the eventing potential of their 4, 5 and 6 year-old horses. The primary aim of these classes is to encourage trainers and breeders to produce and present the correct type of young horse with the potential to develop into an elite level three day event horse. Now in its fourth year, we are delighted to see some of the previous young horses returning in 2018 and encourage you to follow these horses, as well as the new faces, as they move through the age groups. We hope all riders, owners, trainers and spectators enjoy being a part of our eventing future. The judges will be looking for potential including an athletic, loose moving horse with a promising jumping technique and attitude, which with correct training will develop physically and mentally into a top level three day eventer. 2018 Judging Panel The will be evaluated by an expert panel that holds significant international experience in riding and supporting elite level event horses. Timetable The course will be available for walking prior to the start of the young horse competition at 4.15pm. We will be running to a tight schedule so it is essential that all riders are ready to ride in draw order as directed by the stewards. Times are approximate only and we will be following on with the next class as soon as presentations for the previous class are complete. Please be mindful of this and ready to ride. This year the event will consist of a Flatwork test, followed immediately by the Jumping course which is a combination of showjumping and XC fences not exceeding the advertised heights per class (4 year old 80cm, 5 year old 90 cm, 6 year old 1m). Once all competitors have completed their test for the class all horses will be required to be brought back into the arena for a led Conformation assessment as a line up, upon completion the winners and place getters for the class will be announced and will be presented unmounted. Arena familiarisation time is available between 11:30am 12:30pm for riders also competing in the CCI classes who are required for Trot Up and between 2:30pm 3:30pm for riders competing in young horse classes only. Horses will be permitted to walk around the arena only. Jumping of obstacles will entail elimination. Warm up fences will be provided in Indoor 2. Time Location 11:30am 12:30noon Arena familiarisation for CCI riders Indoor 1 2:30pm 3:30pm Arena familiarisation for non CCI riders Indoor 1 3:30pm 4:00pm Course walk for ALL classes Indoor 1 4:15pm 4yo class commences Indoor 1 Approx. 5:15 4yo horses present for Conformation Indoor 1 Approx. 5:30 4yo unmounted presentations Indoor 1 Approx. 5:45 5yo class commences Indoor 1 Approx. 6:45 5yo horses present for Conformation Indoor 1 Approx. 7:00 5yo unmounted presentations Indoor 1 Approx. 7.15 6yo class commences Indoor 1 Approx. 8.15 6yo horses present for Conformation Indoor 1 Approx. 8.30 6yo unmounted presentations Indoor 1

Presentations Unmounted presentations will be held at the conclusion of the Conformation assessment of each class. Running scores will be provided throughout each class. Flat workout and jumping course The flat work out will be conducted around the jumping fences. Please choose your own lines around the fences to enable you to carry out the workout on the following pages. All trot work can be executed sitting or rising. Leading up to and over the final fence, horses will be required to show their cross country pace. The jumping phase involves a small course of show jumping fences with both show jumps and cross- country obstacles. Jumping heights are: 80cm for the 4 Year Old (born Aug 2013 to Jul 2014) 90cm for the 5 Year Old (born Aug 2012 to Jul 2013) 1.00m for the 6 Year Old (born Aug 2011 to Jul 2012) Equipment & Dress 1. Saddlery: Jumping tack required as there will be no opportunity to change gear on the horse 2. Dress: As per normal eventing show jumping requirements 3. Bridle Numbers to be worn on both sides

Scoring Young horses will be given one score by the panel and will judged on the following four elements: FLATWORK/MOVEMENT AND TYPE: Three correct, elastic and regular gaits through a swinging back are the qualities that judges will be seeking. All trot work to be optional sitting or rising. The horse will be required to show the ability to open up the canter after jumping the last fence and proceed to do one lap around the outside of the course. Young horses will not be marked down for displaying a little exuberance nor will marks be taken away for rider inaccuracy. It is the horses and not the rider s potential that is being judged. RIDEABILITY/WAY OF GOING: Acceptance of the bridle, acceptance of the rider and consistency. JUMPING/SCOPE/TECHNIQUE: A bold athletic horse with good technique is what the judges are seeking. A horse with these qualities will not be penalised for knocking down a fence providing he/she learns from the mistake. OVERALL GENERAL IMPRESSION: The horse s conformation and movement should enable them to withstand the demands of the sport in terms of soundness, speed and stamina. In the event of an equality of scores, placings will be determined on a count back. The count back will occur as follows until a winner is determined: 1. General Impression 2. Technique 3. Scope 4. Rideability and way of going 5. Movement and type In the event that places are still not determined following the above count back method, equal placings will be awarded. Score Sheet Movement and Type Correct paces. Ability to lengthen and shorten the stride. Rideability and way of going Acceptance of the bridle. Acceptance of the rider. Consistency. Scope Technique General Impression Attitude. Focus and Commitment. Positive Outlook. Score Total Score /100 We wish all riders good luck and hope you enjoy competing your young horses at SMI3DE 2018!
