3 RTIN N RN The secret is to get the first corner square. Using a 0m or longer tape, mark one long side. From the starting point corner standard, mark m or multiple of eg 0m. t right angle mark m (or m). The measurement between should be m (or m). djust the m (or m) marker until it does. This gives a square corner. ontinue the m (or m) line to 0m and insert the corner standard. the m gateway. Measure the other two sides to meet the fourth corner. efore removing the tape, place the other standards in the ground. Run the rope around the arena. Letters should be placed half a meter back from the rope, with as far back as possible.

6 DRSS RN LTTRS To help you to remember the letters the following sentences may assist you. o around in an anticlockwise manner. Short rena enter line from far end of arena; osh eclaimed Dad, Fat lack Mother at ad ight ittens. Long rena Fat Pale lack Restless Mother at ad Sixty ight Velvety ittens! Or use the short arena letters and insert RSVP starting between and M (RSVP is found on the bottom of most formal invitations and is the French equivalent of, reply if you please). I and L are on the center line. I is between S and R and spells SIR. This leaves L to fill the gap between V and P. RN RTION TIP If the arena is measured accurately once and all corners and letter positions are marked with insulation tape, the arena can be erected quickly in future for general use, (not for hampionship days if absolute accuracy is required). QUI MTOD Measure gateway and insert standards. ttach one end of the rope to one side and insert first corner at the appropriate marker and in line. Run the rest of the rope out around the arena in approximate place and attach to the other side of the gateway. Line up gateway and insert the second corner standard, on the marker. Two people go to the far corners, attach the rope to the standards on the corner markers and pull the rope tight and square. Insert corner standards. Stand at and a quick check looking towards the gateway will tell you if the arena is square. arefully insert the other standards ensuring the rope is not moved off line.

For example a transition to canter on the wrong lead is better than no canter. ll transitions may be progressive. Fall of rider/horse is. If the ridden horse leaves the arena with all four feet before completion of the test, there will be no marks for that movement and the appropriate error will be given, but the combination may resume the test within two minutes, thus avoid elimination. If horse and rider leave the arena other than through the gateway on completion of the test, the appropriate course error will be given.
