Sometimes It s Not About The Football. A big day at Roo Park. Not only was it the Family Fun Day/Season Launch, tribute was paid to club legend, Peter Murphy, who sadly passed away earlier this week after a courageous battle with cancer. Many words have been said about Peter: club captain, best & fairest, premiership player, life member, the list goes on & on. In my time at the club I ve known Peter, not only as a committee member, but as a runner, trainer, umpire, kitchen hand & one of the nicest people you ll ever meet. Peter s greatest legacy however, is the family he leaves behind. Condolences to Judy, David, Ali, Rebekah & their families. There s now a bright star shining over Roo Park. Rest in peace Murph. Peter s funeral will be conducted on Mount Barker Oval, Wednesday 10 th April at 2pm. Sponsor News Duncan Basheer Hannon Mt Barker is thrilled to be a major sponsor of the Mt Barker Roos for season 2013. We believe in putting something back into the local community and are proud to be aligned with the Barkeroos. The DBH Mt Barker team is led by Bronwyn Zanker, a local hills resident and former police prosecutor who has over 20

years of legal experience. Bronwyn can offer advice across multiple areas practice including: Personal Injury Motor Vehicle Accidents WorkCover Family Law Wills & Estates Conveyancing Criminal & Traffic Law Give us a call on 8391 2533 or come past the office at 20 Stephen Street, Mt Barker. We are passionate about supporting local footy and look forward to seeing you at some games this season. Go Roos! Roos News would also like to welcome the following sponsors. Please see attached flier. Support the sponsors who support us There was footy at Roo Park on the weekend, with 4 out of 5 teams starting off the season with a win. The only hiccup for the day was the B Grade, who will salute the judge before too long. The young Under 13 Gold team took on Kersbrook & whilst they didn t win yesterday, it won t be long before they also win a game

Prevent this!!!!! Fractured teeth can have life long effects, and can easily be prevented by a custom fitted mouthguard. No one should play football without a mouthguard Your Dentist can make you a custom fitted mouthguard (over the counter mouthguards usually do not fit properly and are not as effective in protecting your teeth.) Mt Barker Dental Clinic (Albert Place, Mt Barker), tel 83911655, is offering a custom fitted mouthguard service for $50, or for Dental Benefits only( ie no gap), if you have Dental Cover with your Health Insurance. Cheaper than a pair of footy boots, and MUCH cheaper than repairs to damaged teeth.!!

Colts News Senior Colts: Mount Barker 10-9 (69) defeated Uraidla Districts 7-2 (54) Best Players: Abe Abraham, James Atkins, Angus De Wit, Jarred Mason, Declan Mead, Scott Haycraft Goal Kickers: Casey Nicholls, Billy Forster 2; Gavin Scott, Angus De Wit Jarred Mason, James Atkins, Jesse Lindner Match Report: Mount Barker got off to a quick start with 2 early goals. Mount Barker was able to stretch its lead to 23 points by half time. After half time, Uraidla worked themselves back into the game by being first to the ball and applying more pressure than Mount Barker. By three quarter time the lead had been cut to 12 points. The work from Abe Abraham in defence was very important in repelling many Uraidla attacks. In the end Mount Barker was able to hold on and win the game by 15 points. James Atkins played his best game for the club and was able to keep forcing the ball into Mount Barker s forward line. Gus dewit was also really important around the clearances and was a dominant player. It was pleasing to get the win, but there is still much improvement to come from this group Junior Colts: Mount Barker 23-14 (152) defeated Uraidla Districts 0-1 (1) Best Players: Samuel Callins, Rhys Paterson, Ryan Weidenhofer, Jordan Houlahan, Henry Bruce, Travis O Keefe Goal Kickers: Rhys Paterson 6; Billy Stokes, Andrew Jarrod 2; Jackson Field, Malachi Lines 2; Henry Bruce, Jordan Houlahan, Luka Jackaway, Francis Wirthensohn, Travis O Keefe, Ryan Weidenhofer, Mitchell Murphy, Jake Parsons, Jake Yard Next Week: Ironbank V Mount Barker @ Ironbank

Junior News Under 13 (Central): Mount Barker 4-5 (29) defeated Uraidla Districts 2-6 (18) Best Players: Daniel Shepherd, Sam Smith, Braydon Gallas, Kane Lucas, Marcus Scott Goal Kickers: Jesse Amos 2; Daniel Shepherd, Sam Smith Coaches Report: They got off to a good start with Jesse Amos kicking 2 goals and the new recruits Sam Smith and Daniel Shepherd kicking 1 goal each. It was good to see the boys using more handball to get a running game going. The boys need to start working on picking the ball up before taking off. They are leaving it behind too much giving Uraidla an easy grab and kick. All I would like to see is an attack of the footy, don't be scared that you are going to make a mistake. A big thank you to the boys that went over and played for Uraidla under the "fair play rule." Thank you to Jack P, Mason, Bryce, Nick, Tyson, Michael V, Sam H and Daniel M. Next week we play Ironbank at Ironbank please be there at 8am for 8:45am Start. I will see you all on the track Monday night to prepare for the our next challenge. Well done on a good start to the season. Thanks to Kane and Braydon L for doing the boundary umpiring for the junior colts. Under 13 (Gold): Kersbrook 5-8 (38) defeated Mount Barker 2-1 (13) Best Players: Marshall Howe, Amos Doyle, William Bruce, Luke Webb, Dominic Hampel, Thomas Schultz Goal Kickers: Jesse Hill 2 Match Report: The excitement and build up for the first game of the season had finally arrived. I am sure all the boys were up and ready 2 hours before they needed to be. What a perfect day for footy (albeit a little hot for the boys).

The boys were focused and ready to play. The first quarter the boys played hard and competitive football with hard running and tackling. Although minimal scoring was done this quarter the boys did really well to keep Kersbrook to 1 goal. The second quarter the boys carried through from their first quarter with tackling and running. Great team work was played and they were rewarded with a goal coming from Jesse from a set shot on the end of a great team play headed by Marshall. The third quarter again was a great performance with another goal scored from a snapshot from Jesse. The boys again really focused on their tasks and really good teamwork The last quarter the boys started to run out of steam but to their credit they ran it out as best they could. Unfortunately Kersbrook got the advantage over us. Overall a great first out performance with some outstanding work from a few key players such as Marshall, Amos, Luke, Schulzy, Dylan, Brucey and Dom. Boys come off the ground with their heads held high for their performance although disappointed they lost the game. With this performance it looks like the Gold Roos are going to have a great season. Well done boys bring on next week against Meadows... Next Week: Under 13 (Central): Ironbank V Mount Barker @ Ironbank Under 13 (Gold): Mount Barker V Meadows @Echunga (Saturday 8:45am) Joey News No games until the weekend of Saturday 4th May. However training times are as follows: Under 8 s Thursday 11th April @ 4pm Under 9 s Tuesday 9th April @ 4pm Under 10 s Tuesday 2nd April @ 4pm Under 11 s Thursday 11th April @ 4pm Do you have any boots which you have outgrown? Bring them along to training, you might find another pair which fits you! Social News Friday 12 th April Sponsors Breakfast 700am for 7:30am start.
