Archery COSC 2017 Bag Target Archery Ranges are up and running. We started out this spring with five new bag targets. These bags are commercial range bags for stick bows, compound bows, and crossbows rated to 310 fps. Field points only. Not intended for broad heads use. NOTE: 20-yard line, of the 3 bag targets the 1 on the left is a thinner target designed for youth. The other 2 bags are thicker and will stop heavier poundage bows. Field points only. The heavier commercial bags are at the 30, 40, & 50-yard houses. Field points only. There is a shooting table that you can move, for gear or as a shooting bench for crossbows. And there are racks to hang your bow on when retrieving your arrows.

If you want to shoot broad heads, you need to bring your own block or suitable backstop. COSC 3D Archery Course is open until October 1, 2017. This course is for Stick Bows & Compound Bows, Field Points Only. NO CROSSBOWS, NO BROADHEADS, 3D targets are not crossbow rated. The cost is $5.00 for members, $10.00 for guests, $20.00 for families of 3 or more. There are score cards and pencils by the pay pipe. Score cards will explain the scoring on the targets. We have 7 new 3D targets this year, for a total of 30 3D targets that will test your ability to gauge distance and your endurance. The targets increase in difficulty by distance and obstructions. Make it a safe shot. The course takes about 90 minutes to 2 hours. Hat for deer flies and a jug of water make it more enjoyable. Please remember this course is field points only. Capital Area Friends of NRA is having its Annual Fund Raising Banquet this year, September 23rd beginning at 4:00 PM at the Demmer Center, 4830 East Jolly Road, ¼ mile east of the Jolly and College Road intersection. For those who do not know, the Friends of NRA (FNRA) is the charitable 501(c)3 foundation arm of the NRA and is totally non-political, raising money which is then distributed back to various gun clubs, the 4H, the Boy Scouts and other organizations to support the shooting sports, with the main focus on youths and women in the form of grants. The shooting sports include firearms, air rifle and archery. Some of the grants also go towards range improvements, both gun clubs and local police. Since 1998, COSC has received in excess of $87,000 which was used mostly to support our youth small bore (.22 rimfire) and centerfire programs and the Ladies, Ladies, Ladies programs. Unfortunately, due to the untimely death of our Treasurer, Rosemary DiPinio in 2016, the Treasurer s report for COSC wasn t available in time for our yearly Grant submission for FNRA funds, so no grant will be forthcoming this year. To help make up for the grant loss, please consider purchasing tickets for COSC s gun raffle to keep our shooting programs funded for the kids and ladies. Thank You, John Mann COSC & Capital Area FNRA Committee Member
