President s Message The days of winter lay before us and I am dreaming of the coming grouse, woodcock and pheasant hunting. I hope you are also excited about the coming change of seasons when the woods turn into brilliant colors for our eyes to see. Enjoy your days afield and bag a day of memories! Welcome to all the new members this past three months and we hope to see you at the club. By the time you read this our 54th annual Field Day will be history. I want to thank everyone who bought tickets, came to our Field Day and to those that helped make it a great day by volunteering to help run the show. It takes everyone pulling in the same direction to make that day a success and I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart! I want to thank all of you for being members of Palmyra Sportsmen. We strive to do our best and continue to be one of the best sportsmen s clubs in the country. This is all made possible by the members of Palmyra Sportsmen and the volunteers who so generously give their time to make our club the best it can be! Please remember that the winter months are very busy on the indoor ranges, so I suggest that you look at our Google calendars or call me before you venture to the club, particularly if you are traveling from a distance. We strive to minimize the closure of the indoor ranges during the winter months. However, due to the large amount of Junior programs and regular programs a certain amount of closure is necessary. In closing, I hope that 2017 was a very good year and wish for all that 2018 will be an even greater year. Remember that club meeting is always the 3 rd Tuesday at 7pm and all members are welcome to attend. We would like to wish everyone a happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. I hope Santa brings you everything you want especially good health! Skip ******************************************************************************************************************* MidwayUSA Foundation Donations ATTENTION HUNTERS Hunting on Club Property The Hunting Committee has developed new rules for hunting on the club property. In order to hunt on club property, it is mandatory to attend a hunting meeting. These meetings will be scheduled periodically. There will also be limited use of firearms for hunting on the property. If any question, please call 717-838-1055 (Scott Garrison) or email butterflywings123@verizon.net. Club Policies No exploding targets No self-sealing cube or square targets No bump firing or slide fire/ bump fire stocks These policies were passed by the membership at a club meeting due to safety concerns. The most important factor is to keep ALL shots on the back stop. No rounds can leave the range; keep this in mind when you are using any of the ranges. Please remember that gun safety and range safety is your responsibility. Target Ranges You can support our Junior Programs by donating to the MidwayUSA Foundation. Give your dollars more power - your donation is matched 2:1 as of now. This means, for example, for every $10 donated, our endowment will increase by $30. Palmyra Sportsmen's has an endowment account with the Midway Foundation. Just go to our website at www.palmyrasportsmens.com and approximately in the middle of the front page is the MidwayUSA information, click on the MidwayUSA Foundation and this will take you into the site where you can donate. It is already populated for Palmyra Sportsmen's Association. We would appreciate your donation to support our Junior Programs. Thank you. Membership Renewals and Changes REMINDER - You will receive a post card in the mail approximately 60 days before your membership is due for renewal. Please fill out the card completely whether you have a change of address or not. If you do not receive a post card to renew your membership, please use the application in the Newsletter or on the Website. We are no longer handing out stickers when you renew. Do NOT move or readjust targets or frames that are on the shooting ranges. Please leave them where they are set. We have recently experienced considerable damage to targets, frames and stands that were not PSA's property and they will have to be replaced at the clubs expense. Use only targets and backers that are provided by Palmyra Sportsmen's Association on any range. 2 There are some Life and regular members who have evidently moved and have not provided us with a new address. If any member has an address, telephone number or email address change, please call the club at 717-832-0488 or email karenbeyerle7@gmail.com with your changes. Also, if you were informed to stop in the office with your membership card to have the front replaced, please do so as soon as possible. Call before you come. Thank you.

Palmyra Sportsmen s Junior Pistol 2017 Junior Nationals Veni vidi vici Our Jr. Pistol team ended July by attending the 2017 PPP (Progressive Position Pistol) Nationals in Anniston, Alabama. The CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) hosted the eastern event at their air facility. It is a perfect venue for this competition. The western venue was at the OTC (Olympic Training Center) in Colorado Springs, Co. This competition is a 10 meter air pistol event consisting of 2 days of 40-shot qualifying sessions. After 2 days of qualifying, scores are combined and the top 8 scores for men and for women shoot a finals session. The Pa State Team (Jenni, Sammy and Pinky) brought home the Gold medal. Sam Shenk, Sam Zeigler, Jenni Hardison, Kyler Swisher After qualifying 3 rd with a 694, Jenni s efforts in the finals earned her the women s bronze. Maggie Shifflett, Jennifer Hardison, Emily Nothnagle Devin DePamphilis, Pinky (Kyler) Swisher, Sam Zeigler Their efforts over the years explain why they have consistently improved. Their dedication has propelled them to the top of the junior ranks. 5 of the 6 shooters made the finals Devin (the youngest member of the team) just missed them. Again this year, the entire team shot better on Day 2. Pinky was in 3rd after a Day 1 score of 363 his blistering Day 2 score of 380 put him in front by 3 points. Pinky repeats as 2017 PPP National men s champion. By winning he also renewed his spot on the Junior Olympic Pistol Squad. When the dust settled: 5 members of the team shot their best nationals 3 Personal bests Jenni, Maggie and Emily made the women s finals Pinky and Sam made the men s finals Devin finished 9 th missing finals by 1 spot Finals Results Women: Jenni 2nd Emily - 4 th Maggie 5 th Men: Pinky 6th Needed help from Sam in the final to secure the title Sam 1st Devin 9 th 3
