136 DEPARTMENT 17 4-H GOATS SECTION 1 4-H DAIRY GOATS Chairperson: Regis Reash, 2860 Perry Highway, Hadley, PA 16130, Phone 724-372-1851 Exhibitors must be members of a regularly organized Crawford County 4-H Club and in good standing under the supervision of the Pennsylvania State University Cooperative Extension. All entries for 4-H Dairy Goats must be received by Regis Reash by July 14, 2017. Entry fee of $1.00 per animal must accompany all entries. Separate entry forms must be filled out for both open and 4-H shows. (Only one fee paid per animal.) Checks are to be made payable to the Crawford County Fair. The Fair Veterinarian, Dr. Vanessa Philson, is responsible for supervising checking in animals onto the Fairgrounds and has the final word on removal of animals from the grounds for health reasons. If a Veterinarian is needed for any other medical reason, you as the exhibitor, are responsible for all treatment costs incurred. Classification and premiums listed apply to each of these breeds: 1. The 4-H member must have owned the goat prior to June 1. 2. Horns will be accepted in the Pygmy and Production Does. Members who show these animals will not be allowed to switch animals with other exhibitors during the show. 3. All Market Goats must be dehorned. Scurs must be 1 inch or less from the base of the scull and blunted. 4. Nursing kids will only be allowed if they are entered in a class in Section 2 or 3. Thus, no buck or wether kids will be allowed. 5. When on exhibition in the ring, each animal must be shown by the exhibitor or another 4-H member. 6. New rules will be posted in the barn. 7. Dress Code: White collared shirt with black or blue jeans or skirt. Enclosed hard leather footwear. No caps, hats or jewelry permitted in the ring. 12. Exhibit cards with complete information must be displayed for each animal. 13. The Show Order will be rotated yearly.

18. Best of Show (Jr. and Sr. Champions and Reserves in all breeds) Rosette SECTION 4 4-H MARKET GOATS 1. All market goat breeds will be shown together. 2. All market goats must have a Boer, Kiko, Myotonic sire. 3. Each exhibitor will be allowed one (1) market goat. 4. All goats will be weighed Monday morning at the Fair. Goats will be divided as evenly as possible. Class 1 Lightweight Class 2 Middleweight Class 3 Heavyweight SECTION 5 CHAMPION HOME BORN To be eligible for this class the animal must have been born at the member s home and under their care from time of birth. Note: Only animals that are pre-entered and qualify for the sale classes will be permitted to participate. Please notify the Department Chairman at the time of weigh-in. Selection will be made from the highest placing qualified individual from each weight class showing for an overall champion. An award will be presented at the time of selection. SECTION 6 4-H GOAT SHOWMANSHIP & FITTING Entries will be divided as equally as possible into fitting and showmanship groups. The exhibitor can choose which animal he or she will show in these classes. Fitting will be done and supervised at the Fair. New rules will be posted in barn. Fitting will be 1.5 hours long for Dairy Goats with the head, 1/2 body, 2 legs, tail and udder being clipped and judged. Clean up of Dairy Goats will be allowed before Master Fitter is selected on Wednesday. Pygmy, Production Does and Market Goat Fitting: Assistance during fitting will be provided by another Crawford County 4-H member or Department Chair person. Goats will be brought in washed and unclipped. Half of the goat will be clipped in front of the judge at the Fair. Fitting will be 1 hour long. [All goats should have their ears trimmed and tail should be blunted at the end; shaved up to the last two (2) inches creating a paint brush tail.] The fitting score will be based on imrovement of the animal in front of the judge. Any goats brought to the Fair already fit for the show will receive a zero (0) and will be placed at the bottom of the fitting class. 140
Production Market Goat Fitting: Clipping will include full body, head, tail and legs, down to the knees and hocks. Trim stray hairs from knees to hooves and hocks to hooves. Pygmy Goats: Clipping will include head, full body clip and legs clipped to hooves. All goats should have their ears trimmed and tail should be blunted at the end; shaved up to the last two (2) inches creating a paint brush tail.
