On January 27, 28, and 29, The City of Ormond Beach cohosted the 28 th Native American Festival with festival coordinator Jim Sawgrass. FEBRUARY 3, 2017 Native American Festival All weekend long, visitors watched Native American demonstrations in the dance arena, ate tasty treats in the food court, traversed the Native American Village, and shopped in the craft market. Some of the festival s highlights included elaborately dressed dancers, live music, encampment shows, storytelling, and exhibits. Notably, the Native Life Alligator and Snake Shows drew in huge crowds to the food court arena. Guests also flocked to watch the intertribal Grand Entry dances in the dance arena. The festival was open on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Daily admission was $6.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors 50+, and $4.00 for children ages 4-11.On Friday and Saturday, after 5:00 p.m. admission was $3.00 per person.

PAGE 3 Ormond Beach Police Chief Promotes Six During a promotional ceremony held on Friday, January 27, Ormond Beach Police Chief Jesse Godfrey, promoted six members of the Ormond Beach Police Department to the ranks of Corporal, Sergeant and Lieutenant. Officer Joshua DeLong was promoted to the rank of Police Corporal effective January 8, 2017. Corporal DeLong became a Police Explorer with OBPD in 2008. He enrolled and graduated with high honors from Daytona State College in 2012 and became a Police Officer in 2013. He has served as a member of the Crime Suppression Team, Field Training Officer, Hostage/ Crisis Negotiator and a Traffic Homicide Investigator. Corporal DeLong will serve as the ALPHA shift Corporal. Officer Michael Garner was promoted to the rank of Police Corporal effective December 2, 2016. Corporal Garner graduated from the Corrections Academy at Daytona State College and previously worked at Tomoka Correctional Institution for 5 years. He began his career as an Ormond Beach Police Officer in 2012 after completing the Crossover Academy at Seminole State College. In addition to his patrol responsibilities, he serves as a Traffic Homicide Investigator and Breath Test Operator. Corporal Garner will serve as the BRAVO shift Corporal. Corporal Amberly Michaelis was promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant effective January 8, 2017. Sergeant Michaelis began her career with the Ormond Beach Police Department in 2012. She was promoted to the rank of Corporal on April 28, 2015. Sergeant Michaelis is in charge of the department s physical fitness program and is a member of the City s Wellness Committee. She is a general instructor for the department as well as a Certified Defensive Tactics Instructor. She teaches at Daytona State as Cont d. next page

Sergeant Michaelis will receive her Masters of Arts in Criminal Justice at a graduation ceremony to be held in May at American Military University. Officer William Warmington was promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant effective January 8, 2017. Sergeant Warmington began his career with the Ormond Beach Police Department on August 10, 2009, after a long career with Racine Police Department in Racine, Wisconsin. Sergeant Warmington is a DUI Instructor, Breath Test Operator and Hostage Negotiator. As a motor officer, he was a Traffic Homicide Investigator and Traffic Crash Reconstructionist. Sergeant Warmington will be the supervisor in charge of DELTA shift. Sergeant James Doggett was promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant effective January 8, 2017. Lieutenant Doggett received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, NY. He joined the Ormond Beach Police Department in 1995. He has served the citizens of Ormond Beach as a Police Officer, Detective, Crime Prevention DARE officer, Corporal, Sergeant, Detective Sergeant and Acting Captain. Lieutenant Doggett will serve as a Watch Commander over BRAVO and DELTA shifts. Sergeant DW Smith was promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant effective January 8, 2017. At the age of 13, Lieutenant Smith became a Police Explorer and was hired in 1996 as a Community Service Officer. Two years later, he was promoted to Police Officer and has served as a Field Training Officer, Detective, Corporal, Lead Advisor of the Police Explorer program and continues to serve as a State board representative and competition judge with the Florida Association of Police Explorers. Lieutenant Smith was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2005 and has supervised Patrol, Traffic/Motor Unit, Crime Suppression Team and Criminal Investigations. He is a FDLE certified instructor. Lieutenant Smith graduated from the 66 th class of the University of Louisville Southern Police Institute Command Officer Development Course. Lieutenant Smith will serve as a Watch Commander over ALPHA and CHARLIE shifts.

PAGE 5 Selfie While presenting the Teacher of the Quarter awards with the Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, January 31, Mayor Partington took time out for a selfie with one of the students at Pine Trail Elementary. Ormond Beach Middle School Ormond Beach Middle School Principal Matt Krajewski and Police Chief Jesse Godfrey pose for a picture taken by Assistant Principal Troy Kent at the school on January 20. On Fridays, Chief Godfrey rides his police bike in the community as a way to stay connected to citizens. On this occasion, School Resource Officer Greg Stokes was dealing with an issue at the school and Chief Godfrey stopped by to assist.

PAGE 6 Attendance Challenge On February 1 at 2:30 pm, the Ormond Beach Elementary family and the Osceola Elementary family met at the top of the Granada Bridge. The battle was based on the percentage of children that attended school daily for the month of January. City Manager Joyce Shanahan awarded the trophy cup to the school with the highest attendance. Ormond Beach Elementary had 95% attendance and Osceola Elementary had 93%. The competition was very close! Ormond Beach Elementary will keep the cup to display in the front office until March 1 when the schools will meet again for February s results!

PAGE 7 FLOW Mobile The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Florida Licensing On Wheels (FLOW) mobile unit will be at City Hall, 22 South Beach Street, on Tuesday, February 28, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. FLOW is a standalone mobile office with technology to provide most motorists needs. It provides drivers license/id card change of address, renewals, replacements, and renewals and replacements of vehicle registration and disabled parking permits, as well as other needs. The only thing FLOW does not provide is for the drivers license road test. FLOW brings services to the local communities offering a convenience to citizens while saving them time and gas. Before visiting, please go to www.gathergoget.com to learn about licensing and ID requirements and make sure you have everything you need when you visit FLOW so you don t have to make a second trip. PAGE 8 Free Elder Smart Workshop Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida (CLSMF) has partnered with the City of Ormond Beach to offer free quarterly workshops to interested individuals. The next quarterly workshop topic is Elder Smart. The purpose is to educate elders about common types of financial scams they may run into, and how to protect themselves from them. The workshop will be held on Thursday, March 2, from 3:30-5:00 p.m. in Conference Room 103 in City Hall located at 22 S. Beach Street. Conference Room 103 is located just before the elevator on the first floor when entering City Hall from the breezeway between the Library and City Hall. During each workshop, a specific legal topic will be presented by a pro bono attorney. After the presentation, individuals can get their generic questions answered. If attendees wish to meet one-on-one with a pro bono attorney regarding their specific situation, they will need to indicate so on the sign-in sheet upon their arrival and they will be contacted at a later date, by phone, to have an intake completed to establish eligibility for services. Intakes will not be completed at the quarterly workshops. Attendees who wish to have a one-on-one meeting with a pro bono attorney are encouraged to speak with Julie Rademacher, Pro Bono Coordinator, after the workshop has concluded. Open Gym For the month of February, Open Gym will be held on the following days: Friday, February 10 th 6:00 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 17 th 6:00 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 24 th 6:00 8:00 p.m. Open Gym is held at the Ormond Beach Gymnastics Center and will be provided for anyone between the ages of 8-21. The Gymnastics Center is located at 432 N. Nova Road. Whether you are a beginner or have gymnastics experience, you can come by and practice old skills or brush up on new skills. This will be an open gym format and there will only be light spotting. Coaches will be on the floor at all times. A waiver to participate must be signed by each person and anyone under 18 years of age must have the waiver signed by a parent. The cost is $5.00 per participant. PAGE 9 Gallagher PARKS The famous watermelon smashing, stand-up comedian Gallagher performed at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, February 1st. Gallagher is noted for being the first stand-up comedian with a television special on the Showtime network. Working on stage together with two other seasoned veteran comedians, Artie Fletcher and Bob Nelson, the Joke s On You Comedy Tour stop in Ormond Beach was an unscripted show and provided the audience with non-stop laughter. It was a fun night of comedy, and the audience had a great time. The Leisure Services Parks staff worked to clean the three culvert bridges at Hand Avenue, Division Avenue and Hammock Lane. They repaired missing wooden boards at the Magic Forest Playground. A dome lid was installed on a trash receptacle at the Votran bus stop on Thompson Creek Road. A work top was built for a demo garden bed at the Community Garden on Hammock Lane. Numbers were installed on the plots at the new Community Garden on Fleming Avenue. As usual, citywide safety inspections were performed of all parks and equipment and weekly inspections were done of parks facilities for reservations. All park reservations were posted at various facilities.

PAGE 10 Late Night Catechism The touring theatrical show, Late Night Catechism 3 Til Death Do Us Part performed at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Sunday, January 29. The hilarious audience participation comedy takes a humorous look at Catholic education and the institution of marriage. The performer, Sister, is a nun and teacher, charged with educating an unruly class. Sister selects audience members at random, and they become part of the comedy sketches that comprise the basis of the show. The reactions to the sketch comedy routines made everyone laugh during the show. Greatest American Voices Tribute to Greatest American Voices concert was held at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Saturday, January 28. Vocalists Kevon Re mon te, Stan Alston, William Cintron, and Tim Rippey, were backed by a four-piece, live band. The group sang songs from Lou Rawls, Marvin Gaye, Frankie Valli, The Four Seasons and many more. The excellent performance of the singers and the band was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in the audience. The Alter Eagles performed at the Ormond Beach Performing Arts Center on Friday, January 27. The group performed the music of the beloved American super group, The Eagles. This definitive tribute was accurate in every way. The Alter Eagles duplicated the look and original arrangements of the songs down to the smallest detail. The drummer sang the parts played and sung by Eagles drummer Don Henley, and the bassist sang the parts performed by Eagles bassist Timothy Schmidt. The fans enjoyed the show and gave the Alter Eagles multiple standing ovations for their excellent renditions of the legendary Eagles music. Alter Eagles
