In addition, 2 boys transferred from 5-6pm session so a total of 29 players could attend. Further joint ventures between Harborough District Council and the club on Just Get Involved, and Harborough by the Sea projects have continued to introduce badminton

into the community. These projects helped to have new members join all the weekly Wednesday night s sessions on the four courts at Harborough Leisure Centre. We now have registered at 31 st December 2016 a total of 76 Junior Badminton England members for the 2016/17 season. Currently attending are 66 and for the sessions 4-5pm are 12; 5-6pm are 25 & 6-7pm are 29. The club shirt incorporating the badge designed by Anna Cadwallader are now being worn by 33 out of the 66 attending affiliated members. Would be nice to see at least all club members owning a shirt but appreciate they cost 10.00. The club short is now being worn by 11 out of 41 and the club skort is now being worn by 9 out of 25. Appreciate to buy either short or skort are 12.00. I hope that the offer of 20.00 for either a shirt & short or shirt & skort will encourage more sales in 2017. In respect of external tournaments, events and league Members have taken a pro-active approach in continuing entering the Non-County Tournaments. We had winners of Ellis McKeown & Ella Bills in the U14 s Girls Doubles at the Whitwick Badminton Tournament held on 06/02/16. LSBA Junior American Girls/Boys Doubles Tournament held on 4/12/2016 at Babington College. o We had runners up of Emily Hayes & Lucy Goodman in the U14 s Girls Doubles. o We had runners up of Ellis McKeown & Ella Bills in the U16 s Girls Doubles. Initially the club decided not to participate in Harborough by the Sea, as last year the extra activities were placed too far from the town centre and therefore did not attract much participation. However as Rock on the Rec did not take place this year the club finally did take part in Harborough by the Sea and the location this time was much improved as on the grassed enclosure next to the tennis courts in Welland Park. This was two badminton courts, keppy-up area, and shuttle run area. South Northants Junior League (from 2015/16 season) These tournaments were held at Elizabeth Woodville School, Roade (just off J15M1). The teams consist of 4 players made up of either sex-and the current format is as follows:- (i) players are ranked by their captains / team coach (ii) every player plays a single against a similar ranked player (every player plays a doubles team captains to pick playing order). They play a round robin so all teams play against each other. Normally the U11 & U15 play on one day. The under U13 & U17 play on another day. The number of points in a game played and the number of games played per round is dependent on the number of teams entered. As they are limited by the number of hours available in one day the schedule is adjusted accordingly. Each club paid an affiliation fee of 20.00 for junior league to cover some costs and each player paid a fee of 4.00 on the day. In the U15 s Event held on 19 th March 2016 the Harborough LC Junior Badminton Club Team A consisted of Tom Conboy, Edward Battersby, Ellis McKeown, Ella Bills with Peter Conboy as team manager. U15 s Team B consisted of Harvey Lloyd-Williams, Theo Wright, Joshua Ireland, Ben Highcock with Lisa Willcocks (Ben s mother) as team manager. Lost all 3 in their group at 42 points to 90 points; 61 points to 88 points and 47 points to 86 points. In the U13 s Event held on 5 th March 2016 the Harborough LC Junior Badminton Club

Team consisted of Rolph Eastwood, Joshua Colotto, Reuben Saunders, Joe Tremlett with Adrian Eastwood as team manager. Won 2 out of 4 in their group were 83 points to 72 points, 87 points to 65 points. The two defeats were 73 points to 79 points, 56 points to 90 points. In the U17 s Event held on 5 th March 2016 the Harborough LC Junior Badminton Club Team consisted of Tom Conboy, Ben Woodward, Elliot Baker, Edward Battersby with Rachel Battersby as team manager. Due to health reason Peter McCallum the tournament organiser of the South Northants Junior League was unable to continue and needed others to take over this role to allow the previous U11, U13, U15, U17 (now would be U12, U14, U16, U18) to take place for season 2016/17. The lack of support has resulted in the league not being held for season 2016/17. In respect of internal club tournament events At the 5:00-6:00pm sessions a total of 116 games were played. At the 6:00 7:00pm sessions a total 111 games played. The results are as follows:- U10 s Boys Singles (Group & 15-12 against opponent) Runner Up: Oliver Double, Winner: Brynn Smith U12 s Boys Singles (8 15) Runner Up: Harry Butler, Winner: Rolph Eastwood U14 s Boys Singles (20 21) Runner Up: Ben Wooding, Winner: Harvey Lloyd-Williams U17 s Boys Singles (7 15) Runner Up: Edward Battersby, Winner: Ben Woodward U12 s Girls Singles (Group & 2 15 against opponent) Runner Up: Lucy Lawson, Winner: Alice Ireland U14 s Girls Singles (7 15) Runner Up: Emily Hayes, Winner: Ellis McKeown U17 s Girls Singles (7 15) Runner Up: Nancie Lawrence, Winner: Ellis McKeown U10 s Boys Doubles (6 15) Runners Up: Billy Lawson & Fraser Ovens. Winners: Brynn Smith &Oliver Double. U12 s Boys Doubles (Group & 11 15 against opponent) Runners Up: Harry Butler & Reuben Saunders Winners: Josh Colotto & Rolph Eastwood U14 s Boys Doubles (Group & 4 15 against opponent) Runners Up: Ben Highcock & Joshua Evans Winners: Harvey Lloyd-Williams & Ben Wooding U17 s Boys Doubles (Group & 11 15 against opponent) Runners Up: Elliot Baker & Mitchel Adams Winners: Edward Battersby & Tom Conboy U12 s Girls Doubles (10-15) Runners Up: Lucy Lawson & Georgia Garley. Winners: Lilly Ingall & Alice Ireland U14 s Girls Doubles (Group & 6 15 against opponent) Runners Up: Nancie Lawrence & Molly Johnson Winners: Ellis McKeown & Ella Bills

U17 s Girls Doubles (Group & 11 15 against opponent) Runners Up: Ellis McKeown & Ella Bills Winners: Hannah Farr & Anna Cadwallader Harborough LC Junior Badminton Club trophy to the Outstanding Club Member This is based on the Head Coaches assessment of players contribution to the club rather than playing ability. This trophy will be presented annually. Winner 2016: Hannah Farr Shuttles Todate we have not purchased any shuttles for the 4-5pm sessions. We currently have 12 players attending & with the cost in 2017 of 28.00 to hire, now 4 courts plus coach s costs of 15.00 means the other sessions may need to subsidence. A combination of plastics / feathers have and will be used at the session. With 25 members income at the 5-6pm sessions means we have been able to purchase and use Ashaway The New Bird Medium White Nylon Shuttles, which are 24.99 / dozen, but are considered to emulate the flight of natural feather shuttle made from nylon. From Autumn Term 1 we used (i) Babolat No 2 Goose Feather Shuttles, which are 15.50/ dozen. With 29 members income at the 6-7pm sessions means we have been able to purchase and use either (i) Babolat No 2 Goose Feather Shuttles which are 15.50/ dozen but are considered a top level shuttle for use in Club and League competitions due to the high consistency in the flight and speed or (ii) Yonex AS 20 which are 15.89/dozen. Consider again over year 2017, the club s strategy should be to work with local Junior Schools to give younger children a taste and fun of the sport that hopefully means more will attend the 4-5pm weekly sessions. The majority of the older players now only attend the Wednesday 6:00 to 7:00pm session to have allowed then more younger members space within the 5:00 to 6:00pm session. We now need look at booking courts 7-8pm (at present only court 3 could be available) or more courts on another night to offer a further session for older members? This could be essential from Autumn Term 2017 when 4 girls and 1 boy will be too old to be club members but 3 girls and 6 boy s members may take their places as they have moved to Senior Schools? Club Coaches & Volunteers John Fannon obtained his Badminton England UKCC Level 1 award in Coaching Badminton in January 2016. Steve Chapman who attended the same course has been unable to date, due to unforeseen circumstances, to attend the evaluate day. Steve intends as soon as possible in 2017 to either (i) attend an evaluate day or (ii) completely attend the course again followed by evaluate day all at his own expense. Club members have been attending other sessions free of charge to help as volunteers. At the end of 2016 for the 4-5pm session then Lilly Ingall & Naomi Benson; for the 5-6pm session then Anna Cadwallader, Hannah Farr, Harvey Lloyd-Williams, Tom Fortnum, Elliot Baker and Theo Wright; for the 6-7pm session then Julian Henjes. Ray Phipkin and John Fannon attended the Badminton England CPD module course, (i) Improving Your Movement Demonstration; (ii) Improving Your Hitting Demonstration, which was paid by the club.

Ray Phipkin also completed elearning courses (i) Inspiring Positive Behaviour in Sport; (ii) Mentoring Coaches in Badminton; (iii) Disability Awareness; (iv) Introduction to Nutrition for Badminton. Also attended courses (i) Managing Incidents of Bulling in Sport; (ii) The Sport Coach UK Safeguarding & Protecting Children. With a Constitution, Code of Conducts & updated Welcome Leaflets the club received on 5 th May 2016 renewal accreditation as a Badminton England Premier Club and Sport England Clubmark. Club Web site & notice board Due to the great efforts of John Fannon the club now has a web site http://www.harboroughlcjuniors.org.uk/ via Easyspace Starter Plus Yearly, Easyspace Domain. Ray Phipkin issued an e-mail to all parents to advise this fact. This site has details of the past clubs AGM minutes with coaches & treasurer reports, BACS Bank payment details for 2016/17, Club Kit order forms, details of weekly session programme. External tournament event forms & photos of players winning trophies at American Tournament. Badminton England had provided a notice board to Harborough Leisure Centre. Ray Phipkin contact Badminton England to obtain replacement installation fittings and A5 / A4 plastic holders and then obtained the Harborough Leisure Centre agreement to fix the notice board in the corridor in the entrance to the Sports Hall. This notice board is now being used solely by the club. In addition the web sites of both Harborough Leisure Centre and Leicestershire Rutland Sport are being used to advise all the club details and weekly sessions. Pathway to Adult league: Steve and John have invited some of the older players to participate in the Harborough Feathers club nights. Todate one player Elliot Baker has taken up this opportunity. Automatic Shuttlecock Launcher Ray Phipkin purchased this equipment in 2016 and players have had the benefit of its use. To date no charge has been made but it may mean in 2017 a charge is made for any replacement Shuttlecocks needed. Would like to thank all club coaches, volunteers and committee members, for all their help & support over the last 12 months. Also a big thank you to all club members for the cards & presents given to me to celebrate my 70 th Birthday in November. Finally a very, very big thank you to all parents & players as without their interest, dedication & commitment we would not have a junior badminton club to serve Market Harborough area. It has been a pleasure to work with such a great crowd of players, people & makes the 45 mile round trip each week worthwhile.
