Australian Yachting Championships 2018 NOTICE OF RACE The Organising Authority for this event is the Sandringham Yacht Club Inc. (SYC) Sandringham Yacht Club (in conjunction with Australian Sailing) invites entries for the 2018 Australian Yachting Championships, taking part alongside the SYC Regatta, to be held on Port Phillip off SYC from Friday 19 January to Sunday 21 January 2018

1. RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in: a) The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) of World Sailing; b) IRC Rules Parts A, B and C where applicable; c) ORCi Rating System Rules where applicable; d) OMR rating rules where applicable. 1.2 Australian Sailing (AS) Prescriptions and Special Regulations Part 1 will apply. 1.3 Changes to the Racing Rules of Sailing: A) RRS 51: A boat with movable or variable ballast (within the meaning of those terms in the Special Regulations) may move the ballast for the purpose of changing trim or stability B) RRS 52: RRS 52 does not apply to the adjustment and operation of sails or the adjustment of movable appendages on any boat. C) RRS 55 is amended adding the following sentence to the rule: However, discarding cotton, wool, or any other biodegradable material when setting a sail is permitted. 1.4 The Organising Authority will appoint a National Jury for the Championship, and the right of appeal is denied. 2. ADVERTISING Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organising authority. 3. ELIGIBILITY 3.1 The regatta is open to: A) All single hull, self-righting keelboats that comply with AS Special Regulations Part 1 for Category 6. B) Multihulls that comply with AS Special Regulations Part 1 for Category 6. 3.2 A boat requiring an equipment audit at the SYC should make a booking at the Sailing Office. 3.3 Boats entered in IRC rating class shall have an endorsed IRC certificate, and comply with the IRC rating rules, Part C, save to the extent they are specifically amended or excluded in this Notice of Race or the Sailing Instructions (Refer RRS 78.1) 3.4 Boats entered in ORC International (ORCi) rating class shall have an ORCi certificate, and comply with the ORCi rating system rules save to the extent they are specifically amended or excluded in this Notice of Race or the Sailing Instructions (Refer RRS 78.1) 3.5 Boats entered in the Multihull Racing class shall hold a current Offshore Multihull Rule (OMR) rating. 4. ENTRY AND FEES 4.1 Eligible boats may enter the series via the Australian Sailing website at http://websites.sportstg.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-9982-0-0-0 before 1200 on

Wednesday 21 December 2017. Late entries after this date may be accepted at the discretion of the Organising Authority, subject to payment of an additional late fee. 4.2 A keelboat may enter in either or both of the IRC and ORCi ratings systems for the same fee. 4.3 All boats will also be scored in Performance Handicap (PHS) system. 4.4 The entry fee for all classes and rating systems will be $300. The additional late entry fee will be $100. 4.5 The Organising Authority may cancel any class if fewer than five entries have been received by the closing date. In this event, boats that have entered will have the option of transferring to another class (if eligible) or having their entry fee refunded. 5. SCHEDULE 5.1 Racing will take place on Friday 19 January 2018, Saturday 20 January 2018 and Sunday 21 January 2018. 5.2 The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race on each day is 1025. 5.3 Subsequent races will be started as soon as possible after the completion of the previous race, not necessarily in the same divisional sequence. 5.4 The regatta shall comprise of up to eight (8) races for each keelboat division and 4 races for the Multihull division. 5.5 The number and type of races, depending on weather conditions, will be advised in the Notice to Competitors before 0900 on the morning of the race. 5.6 There will be no postponements to times later than 1500 on Sunday 21 January 2018. 5.7 There will be no re-sails after Sunday 21 January 2018. 6. RATINGS AND HANDICAPS 6.1 Each boat shall have a valid rating certificate as issued by the relevant authority 6.2 IRC and ORCi ratings shall be as provided by the rule authority at 1200 on Thursday 18 January 2018. 6.3 No alteration to the boat s rating will be permitted after this date and the completion of the series, except as a result of a rating protest, or to correct rating office errors. 6.4 Performance handicaps (PHS) will be assigned by the Race Committee, and are not subject to protest or request for redress. 6.5 The Race Committee may make corrections to handicaps or ratings at any time. 6.6 Boats and their equipment may be inspected and/or check measured up to 24 hours prior to the start of the first race and in accordance with Rule 61.3 (Protest Time Limit) after the finish of the last race of the regatta at the discretion of the Race Committee. 6.7 The boats may be assigned to divisions at the discretion of the Race Committee, depending on fleet size.

7. SAILING INSTRUCTIONS The sailing instructions will be available on the AS website (http://websites.sportstg.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-9982-0-0-0 ) on or before Monday 8 January 2018. 8. VENUE Racing will be conducted on the waters of Port Phillip, in the vicinity of Sandringham Yacht Club. Charts Aus143 and Aus155 cover the course area and are recommended. 9. THE COURSES The courses to be sailed on the day will be determined by the Race Committee and will consist of a combination of laid mark windward/leeward, fixed mark mid-distance or fixed mark longer distance-passage races as listed in the Sailing Instructions. 10. SCORING 10.1 The IRC/ORCi series will consist of up to 8 races. 1 race is required to be completed to constitute a series. 10.2 The Multihull series will consist of up to 4 races. 1 race is required to be completed to constitute a series. 10.3 Low Point System of RRS Appendix A will apply. 10.4 If 6 (4 in the case of Multihulls) or more races are completed a boats worst score shall be excluded. 10.5 When fewer than 6 (4 in the case of Multihulls) races are completed a boats series score shall be the total of her race scores with no exclusions. 10.6 IRC race results will be calculated by the application of the IRC Time Corrector (TCC) as printed on each boats IRC Certificate as a multiplier of the boat s elapsed time. 10.7 ORCi results will be calculated by the application of the Time-on-Time (ToT) Simplified Scoring Option, using the Offshore ToT rating as for the Passage Race(s) and Inshore Windward Leeward ToT rating for Windward Leeward races as printed on each boats ORCi Certificate as a multiplier of elapsed time. 10.8 Multihull results will be calculated by the application of the OMR rating (OMR) for each boat as a multiplier of the boat s elapsed time. 10.9 PHS results will be calculated by the application of a Time Correction Factor (TCF) as a multiplier of the boat s elapsed time. A boat s TCF may be adjusted after each race. 11. TROPHIES AND PRIZEGIVING Trophies will be awarded to first, second and third placing in each division. The prize giving will be held at the SYC clubhouse following racing on Sunday 21 January 2018. 12. RADIO COMMUNICATION Except in an emergency, a boat while racing shall neither make nor receive electronic transmissions (radio, e-mails, mobile phone etc.) or other communications which not available to all boats.

13. MEDIA RIGHTS AND RESTRICTIONS 13.1 The conditions of entry include a requirement that the owner or charterer of the boat and all crew members: A) acknowledge that the Organising Authority owns all media rights to the Australian Yachting Championships and may exercise those rights as it sees fit; B) grant the Organising Authority and Australian Sailing the unconditional, perpetual right and authority to publish and broadcast anywhere in the world, for any purpose and in any media, the names, images and biographical information relating to the crew and photographs, video footage and audio recordings taken of the boat and its crew prior to, during and after the race; 13.2 Any breach of these conditions may, at the discretion of the Organising Authority or the Race Committee, lead to the rejection of an entry, the cancellation of an entry or the disqualification of a boat (refer RRS 76.1). This does not limit the right of the Organising Authority to take any other action it sees fit to enforce compliance with these conditions. 14. DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See Rule 4, Decision to Race. The organising authority and/or Australian Sailing will not accept any liability for any material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. 15. INSURANCE Each participating boat, including any chartered or borrowed boats, shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of AUD10 million per event, with racing risk extension. 16. INTERNET SITE AND ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS 16.1 Information for this event will be located on the AS website http://websites.sportstg.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-9982-0-0-0 16.2 Entrants are advised to check the site periodically in order to keep up to date with the latest information. 16.3 Electronic communications (by e-mail and /or SMS) will be used between the Race Committee and the competitors for: a) Advice from boats to Race Committee of intention to race on the day. b) Advice from boats of crew details on board for the day, including emergency contact details and AS membership. c) Any other information that may be beneficial to the efficient running of the regatta Further details will be provided in Sailing Instructions. 17. MOORING AND STORAGE ARRANGEMENTS 17.1 Moorings for interstate competing boats can be made available at SYC for the period 0900 Thursday 18 January 2018 to 1100 Monday 22 January 2018 at no charge.

17.2 Boats wishing to arrive before Wednesday 17 January 2018 and/or leave after Monday 22 January should contact SYC on 03 9599 0999 to book a berth for the extra days. This will incur an additional charge. Bookings should be done as soon as possible. 17.3 Boats wishing to arrange on-site storage of equipment during the regatta should also contact SYC on 03 9599 0999. 18.
