30 January 4 February 2017 Grenada Sailing Week is Grenada s major international keelboat regatta. Held annually at the end of January, this is an ideal introduction to the Caribbean sailing season for yachts that have crossed the Atlantic, and an excellent challenge for regionally based boats. 2017 is no exception, and the regatta will commence with Skippers Registration and Welcome Event on Monday 30 January and end with the Final Prize Giving Event on Saturday 4 February. We are actively seeking sponsors for this event and appreciate your time in reading this document. Background Info Grenada Sailing Week (GSW) was established in 2013 to replace the keelboat regatta previously facilitated by the Grenada Sailing Festival. Over the first 4 years, registered entries have ranged between 29 and 36, attracting yachts from between 11 and 13 countries each year, including Antigua, Austria, Barbados, the BVI's, Canada, Carriacou, France, Grenada, Mexico, Norway, St Lucia, Singapore, Trinidad & Tobago, the UK and the USA. Starting in 2013 with 4 Classes, this sailing week now has 6 Classes, ranging from the more serious CSA Racing, Racer/Cruiser and J24 Classes to the more relaxed Cruising (Fun) and Classic Classes. The GSW Board together with committed supporters, remains strongly focused on growing this regatta into a top class international sailing event that will benefit the sport of sailing, the marine industry and tourism in Grenada. These items are usually distributed amongst the crew of the boat (up to 10 persons) and some can be kept and used for many years to come, thus creating an invaluable sponsor brand awareness. Grenada Sailing Week has signed up with Sailors for the Sea to be a Clean Regatta and part of this initiative is to reduce the amount of paper used during the event. Other Sponsorship Opportunities There are many other ways in which you can sponsor Grenada Sailing Week, depending on your business and your sponsorship budget, below are some ideas which we would be happy to discuss with you in more detail if you are interested. Sponsored flights into Grenada for our team of officials this usually costs around US$3,000 with most officials flying into Grenada from other Caribbean islands. VIP program Chase the Race a catered catamaran tour for VIP guests to watch the beginning of the races on selected days. This would commence around 8am and end around lunchtime. There would be complementary drinks, a light breakfast and other snacks included. Goody Bags for volunteers in order to successfully execute Grenada Sailing Week we rely on our team of volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes ensuring the event runs smoothly. We would like to thank the volunteers with a goody bag. There is an opportunity to either fully or partially sponsor this bag. Ideally it would contain some drinks, a branded reusable water bottle, a t-shirt, a hat, a lanyard, a key ring, sun cream, lip balm, etc items with your brand that are useful for volunteers during sailing week. Water / Land Taxi sponsorship we need to provide free water taxis from our event venues to yachts moored in the bay or at different marinas. As we will be using two venues in 2017, there is a need for a land based taxi service to operate between the venues on the change over day. Sponsorship of our taxi service would be an opportunity for your business to stand out from the crowd, providing an essential service to our participants. Entertainment sponsorship we have 6 nights of parties during the regatta and on each of those nights we need to have entertainment either cultural entertainment or bands or regionally based bands / entertainers. We are requesting sponsorship of one of these nights you would have exclusive sponsorship of the night (apart from our drinks sponsors behind the bar). This is an amazing opportunity to stand out from the crowd bringing attention to your brand. Lay day Activities After 2 days of sailing we have a lay day to give the sailors chance to rest and recover and plan their strategy for the remaining races. There is an opportunity to sponsor activities on this day and we would be happy to discuss this further with you.
Other Initiatives Sailors for the Sea - Clean Regatta Program Grenada Sailing Week has joined the Clean Regatta program run by Sailors for the Sea you can find out more by clicking on this link: Sailors for the Sea This is the world s only sustainability certification for waterbased events. Over 800 regattas, gams, rallies and cruises have registered as Clean Regattas. One part education, two parts activation, the program unites and mobilizes sailors by offering support and resources to help conserve and protect the ocean. We will be creating reusable signage; asking vendors at our events to use responsible dinnerware; practicing responsible waste management by providing sorted recycling bins at our venues; encouraging water bottle reduction by providing (through sponsorship) reusable water bottles to sailors; requesting our food vendors provide sustainable food options at our events; providing useful and long lasting marine items as race day prizes rather than trophies that sit on a shelf gathering dust and so on. Sponsors can get involved in our Clean Regatta program by providing re-usable promotional items for our skippers bags to cut down on paper resources, such as flyers that are read once and then thrown away. We are seeking sponsorship of reusable water bottles to be given to participating crews and our volunteers. The water bottles would be branded with GSW 2017 logo and your own brand, thus creating a long lasting item promoting your brand long past the end of the regatta.
