Hospitality, Volunteer and Chaperone Page Welcome Back Cookout Tuesday, July 18 th is the first evening practice for all band/color guard members at 5:30 pm. We would like to invite all new and freshman parents to a cookout. Come see what it is like when you get the entire FMHS Marching band together! The board will have an informational meeting afterward. This is your chance to get all your questions and concerns answered! More info to come. Hospitality Help Needed for Welcome Back Cookout I am in need of several parents who would be willing to bring a grill and cook hamburgers and hotdogs for the cookout on July 18 th. I am also looking for donations of watermelon and desserts and parents to help serve. If you are able to help please sign up in Charms. If you have any questions, please contact Anna Marie Hunton at (724) 931-9364 or at huntonpj@gmail.com Band Camp It s not too early to start thinking about band camp. Volunteers are needed during lunch and dinner to help serve. This is a great way to check up on your student without being obvious. Sign-ups are on Charms. Now is a good time to stop stocking up on water/chip/soda donations. We will be asking for these for band camp, practices and competitions. Cases of water are less than $4 at Costco. Chaperones - Chaperones are still needed for Color Guard and Band Camp. Please go into Charms and sign up today.

3 Band Fees The first payment of $165 was due on June 15th. Take the time now to bring your band fee/account up to date. You can pay in the misc ledger in Charms. If you would like to mail in your payment, make your checks payable to FMDBBC 2764 Pleasant Road #10503 Fort Mill, SC 29708 Things You Need for Band Camp: Band Camp is a full week of rehearsal focusing on the music and drill of the fall competition show. 5 Band Parent Cheat Sheet Who makes up the Marching Band? On the schedules you will see references to several different groups that make up the Fort Mill High School Marching Band: (Updated #igoofed) Pit - Group of musicians in the front of the field who are for the most part stationary and don t move. They are a part of percussion. Percussion. Another part of percussion are comprised of snares, tenors and basses and do move. J Color Guard or Guard Rehearsal Those that dance, toss flags, sabers and rifles. In the winter, you will hear them referred to as Gold (Varsity), Blue (JV) and Cadets (middle school). Full Band Rehearsal and Band Rehearsal refers to all people whether they march with their instrument on the field, do guard or are part of the percussion ensemble. Rehearsals - If you go to Charms and click on Events you will see a list of all the upcoming rehearsals. These events are also inside the Calendar portion of Charms too and they are posted in the two weeks at a glance (sometimes I post more than 2 weeks if I have room) portion of the EBlast that is sent to your email account each Sunday night. It s important to know what instrument your child plays and which group he s considered to be in, in order to be connected to his/her schedule. You can also sync this calendar to your phone. Competition schedules will be posted in Charms as we get them. They will also be added to Eblast and mentioned on Facebook. Competition schedules are a work in progress throughout the summer, so when Mr. Pruitt knows when we leave and perform, he will let us know and I post it. Please do not be surprised if you don t know the exact time your student/child will be leaving for a competition until just a few days before. On many occasions we do not know what time we will perform until the venue lets us know. Patience is key. We will update you all as soon as possible. I promise. Bands of America (www.musicforall.org) - Music for All s Bands of America (BOA) marching band championships are the premier events for marching band in the nation. Their completion schedule falls into 3 categories: Regional Championships We are scheduled to attend one of these in Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC. Super Regionals

Grand Nationals We competed in 2016 and will be going again in 2017. The Grand National Championships is a three-day, Preliminary, Semi-Finals, Finals event, held in Lucas Oil Stadium, one of the world s premier indoor venues. Forty-five bands perform in each of the two separate Prelims contests, balanced with like numbers of bands from each class.thirty bands then advance to Semi-Finals. The top 12 scoring bands from Semi- Finals, regardless of class, advance to Saturday evening s finals. This is why we can t tell you how long we will be there. We could be out after the first preliminaries or we could go all the way to the Finals. Remind Notification System This is the same system the schools use to notify parents and students of events. We use it to tell you when the bus is getting close to the school after those late night road trips, or when there is a booster club meeting. The different sections also have their own. To sign up for the one the Booster Secretary drives, go to https://www.remind.com/join/fortmillb Or you can text this message: @fortmillb and send it to 81010. Skillet This is the area on the black top parking long outside the band room. It is where the entire band will spend most of their time learning the show. When you come to pick them up at night, we ask you for a couple of things. 1. Drive slow 2. Do not park along the curb near the band room or in front of the ramps. The kids, especially those with enormous percussion instruments need lots of room to get their instruments back to the band room. 3. Feel free to get out of your car and ask a kid you don t know if you can help push their instrument back to the band room. After all day in school and band practice till 9, they will probably welcome the help. Home Football Schedule (all required to attend) August 18 - August 25 - September 1 - September 8 - October 6 - October 27 - Spring Valley West Florence Lancaster Orangeburg- Wilkinson Clover Nation Ford
