Sunshine Beach Surfers Hi Sunshine Beach Surfers, THIS Sunday is our first scheduled surfing group get together. The plan is to meet at Sunshine Beach at 8am on Sunday 5 June. So if you can be there (whether it is to surf or just come and take a look) it would be great. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your level of experience) the surf is forecast to be pretty big on Sunday so it may not be great for beginners however for those who are brave/experienced enough there should hopefully be some waves on offer. If it is too big /out of control we may have to postpone so keep an eye on Team Sunshine - SBSLSC Facebook group for updates (if you are not on Facebook, do yourself a favour and get on it otherwise you are missing most of the club communication) IMPORTANT NOTE as this is being run as a Sunshine Beach SLSC lifesaving event we still need to comply with RISK ASSESSMENT and WATER SAFETY regulations, so yes we do need to wear high vis tops and have water safety on hand If you are in the 14+ age group and hold a SRC or bronze award you will not require water safety but please keep an eye on your mates at all times. If you are a <13 nipper then you will require water safety supervision, the easiest way to handle this is that mums and dads are responsible for their own kids. Naturally other water safety helpers are always welcome if they are available. Everyone needs to bring a high vis top of some description and wear it when in the water no exceptions otherwise we can t run this group under SBSLSC insurances etc As this is the first get together we will have a brief chat about how everyone wants the group/events to run and then hopefully a bit of a social surf and maybe a few quick competitions. Not sure whether we will be able to run a BBQ as yet but hopefully we will have that on hand afterwards bring a few $ to cover a sausage sandwich or 3 Any pre-event suggestions or questions please email or call me. Also if you have any other mates who are not copied in on this email or may not know about it please invite them along (they must be active club members, cadets or nippers to participate). And a final reminder that this is not really a learn to surf group, at the moment it is designed for those who are already competent surfers. Youth & Cadet A huge thank you to the following crew who made the time and effort to help out as water safety last weekend, it was very much appreciated and raised us some good coin as well. Tom Baker, Tom O Connor, Flynn Ross, Brock Redwood, Jarrad Greentree, Brooke Finney, Ben Dods, Charli McKinley, Amber Dods, Elis Jeynes, Rio Knott, Sophie Boulton and Max Moore. Also some outstanding efforts in the actual swim race by Zac Bromage finishing 6 th in the big boyz 2km race, Max Smallman powered on to finish 2 nd in his division and big sis Mia cracking the number 1 position on the podium (after slowing to chat to our water safety along the way?). Pencil in a brekkie at the club for the 19 th June (to be confirmed) for a chat about next season planning and a chat from 2 very important people?????? Reminder: The 2016 Sunshine Coast Youth Ball is on at Lake Kawana Community Centre on the 9th July 2016. Talk to your mates and get enthused about dressing up and smashing it out on the dance floor! Tickets are available online at: http://youthball.eventzilla.net/ If you have any photos of this season activities, from diving, to Go Karts or Lake Borumba water sport action, please send them thru to lifesaving@sunshinebeachslsc.com.au asap. I d like to put together a small clip of what we do and Branch needs some pics for Branch nights and the Youth ball.
