Quality in short supply, several steers too heavy and many cattle not sufficiently finished. Buyers report very slow sales due to a shortage of cash amongst the buying public, which combined to return a trade at lower levels than seen of late, except for the best butchers heifers. Top was 207.5ppk for a very smart Charolais heifer from Mr JR, Mrs RA & Mr RD Stanbury, Knowstone who sold others similar at 202.5 and 190.5ppk. Other best heifers 194ppk, Limousin, Mr RJ, Mrs HA & Mr MR Popham, Highbridge; 191.5ppk, Stabilizer, Mr JPT & Mrs BM Scott, Taunton and 191.5ppk again for a Blue from Mr SER Hunt, Kilve. Steers topped at 190ppk for a quality Limousin from Mr J & Mrs S Vinnicombe &, Ottery St Mary, who sold others at 188 and 183ppk. A superb red Limousin at 189.5ppk from Mr MJ Chilcott and good red Limousins from Mr RJ, Mrs HA & Mr MR Popham again at 188 and 187ppk. Steers over 700kg easier than of late. STEERS sold to 1,417.46 from Mr MJ Chilcott. Others at 1,309.00 for a 700kg Limousin from Mr RJ, Mrs HA & Mr MR Popham, who sold another (682kg) at 1,265.11. A 778kg Charolais from Mr RJ Hawkins, Lydeard St Lawrence returned at 1,275.92. Heifers sold to 1,197.98 for a BRBx from Mr DP Leaney who sold others to 1,106.47. 1,148.48 for a Limousin from Mr RJ, Mrs HA & Mr MR Popham. A Charolais and a Blue from Mr JR, Mrs RA & Mr RD Stanbury returned at 1,105.65 and 1,105.54 respectively. A show of generally reduced quality cows sold at slightly improved levels to those of last week. Much less flesh on offer and many cold cows forward. Top sucklers were 117.5ppk twice for a smart Devon from Mr JR, Mrs RA & Mr RD Stanbury and a broad Blue from Mr TA Wilkins &, Martock. Limousin cows rose to 116.5ppk from Mr MJ Britton, Tiverton and a further Devon from the Stanbury family met a call of 115.5ppk. Better cows 110ppk plus. SUCKLERS sold to 1,024.60 for the Blue from Mr TA Wilkins &. DAIRY breeds also peaked at the day s top price of 117.5ppk for a well fleshed young Holstein (42m) from Mr CG & Mrs JM Heard, Umberleigh, who sold other well fleshed older black and whites at 111 and 109.5ppk. A well covered Holstein with a shining coat from Newley Farm, Taunton met a call of 113.5ppk. Good meat cows generally 105 to 110ppk. Empty steakers 95ppk. Full and plain cows below. Holsteins sold to the day s top of 1,063.73 for a boat of a cow (985kg) from Mr ES Triggol, Bridgwater. Other big cows at 903.96 and 867.14 from Newley Farm. Our grateful thanks to all Vendors.
