WCCCD s new Michigan Institute for Public Safety Education is heralded nationally to be one of the finest of its kind in the emergency training field and plays an integral role in making WCCCD a national leader in emergency training and response. This new facility has been built in response to the tremendous increase in the demand for WCCCD s Fire Fighters, Emergency Medical Services and Industrial Safety Training programs. The Michigan Institute for Public Safety Education provides Homeland Security, Fire, Law Enforcement, EMS and industrial personnel throughout the surrounding communities, state and at the national level with emergency response education and training services in a safe and controlled environment. Prior to this facility, there was no training center in Wayne, Monroe or Washtenaw County to provide homeland security, fire, law enforcement, EMS and industrial specialized, realistic, and safe emergency training opportunities open to the community. This state-of-the-art ten acre, $6 million facility houses a 4-story fire tower, a 12,000 square feet Training Center, a 50,000 square feet driver training area and a man-made lake for water rescue simulations. The Institute also includes simulators for airplane, vehicle, and ship rescue missions. [ TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES ] The Michigan Institute for Public Safety Education will enhance program performance and student opportunities for employment for the following state approved programs currently offered by the College: Michigan Correctional Officers Training Council Correction Officers Department of Community Health Medical First Responder Basic Emergency Medical Technician EMT-Specialist and Paramedic. Homeland Security is among the most crucial challenges that our nation faces. [ TRAINING TOWER ] This five story, three section training facility will provide realistic and repeatable training focusing on the potential hostile environments that may be encountered by fire and law enforcement agencies. This trainer will provide performance based training including the following: Fire suppression with different intensity levels 3 foot fire 6 foot fire 10 foot fire Laddering walls Roof ladder work Ventilation roof penetration Hose advancement Fire department connection and stand pipe system Search and rescue Victim extrication Communications Self contained breathing apparatus maze Confined space exercises Rappelling ire scene exercises Unified Incident Command Terrorism Response Tactical considerations Terrorism Response Command considerations Fire fighting with the use of burn rooms Hose advancement Fire department connection and stand pipe system Search and rescue Victim extrication Communications Self contained breathing apparatus maze Confined space exercises Rappelling [ AIRCRAFT SIMULATOR ] This 45 aircraft trainer will provide realistic and repeatable training focusing on the potential hostile environments that may be encountered by fire and law enforcement agencies. This trainer will provide performance based training such as the following: Catastrophic event response; fuel spill fire suppression Search and Rescue Incident response to terrorist bombings in aircraft or baggage. Response to aircraft high jacking with and without hostages. Aircraft searches for weapons of mass destruction. Aircraft crime scene management for emergency responders. [ ELEVATOR RESCUE ] This 4 X 4 fully operational two story elevator will provide realistic training focusing on elevator operations and rescue that may be encountered by Fire/EMS and Industrial agencies. This trainer will provide performance based training including the following: Fire suppression Victim Extrication Elevator Operations

[ SHIPBOARD SIMULATOR ] This 48 X 8 marine trainer will provide realistic and repeatable training focusing on the potential hostile environments that may be encountered by fire and law enforcement agencies. This trainer will provide performance based training such as the following: Vessel search and rescue. Catastrophic event response; fire suppression Cellar/Basement Fires Anti-terrorism exercises focusing on threats to critical waterfront ports. Searches for weapons of mass destruction. Victim Extrication [ VEHICLE SIMULATOR ] The vehicle trainer will provide both realistic and repeatable training focusing on environments that may be encountered by fire agencies. This trainer will provide performance based training including the following: Scene management for emergency responders. Victim Extrication [ DRIVING PAD ] This 150 X 300 driving pads is designed to provide low speed training for Fire and EMS vehicles. Apparatus and Pump Operations VFIS driver training JAWS of Life Training

[ HAZARDOUS MATERIALS ] This 40 X 60 pad with box rail car, tanker rail car, and tractor trailer simulators will provide realistic training focusing on Hazardous material mitigation that may be encountered by Fire/EMS, Law Enforcement, and Industrial agencies. This trainer will provide performance based training including the following: Hazmat Awareness Hazmat Operations Hazmat Technician Hazmat Specialist Hazmat Awareness HAZWOPR [ SPILL FIRES ] These 2 X 3 and 4 X 6 pans fully will provide realistic training focusing on incipient fire extinguishment that may be encountered by Fire/EMS, Law Enforcement, and Industrial agencies. This trainer will provide performance based training including the following: Extinguisher Training Extinguisher Training Extinguisher Training

[ CONFINED SPACE ] This dual vault and 60 of piping trainer will provide realistic training focusing on confined spaces of 24 inches that may be encountered by fire agencies.
