During the season all players must be available for Saturday, Thanksgiving, and Christmas holiday practices and games. In order to be placed in the fall off season class, a student must have participated on their 8 th grade middle school team. Approval from the head coach must be obtained by anyone outside LISD attendance zone in order to be placed in the fall off season class. Open tryouts will be held in late October for all interested students. Cost Participation in all fundraisers. Participation in outside leagues is encouraged. BASKETBALL GIRLS Head Coach Stacy McDonald cell phone 469-867-0696 mcdonaldsl@lisd.net Class meets 1 st period fall and spring. The Hebron Lady Hawk Basketball program is on the rise. New Head Coach Stacy McDonald s desire is to increase the number of athletes that participate in basketball and build this program into a perennial power house 9-12! That being said, Lady Hawk Hoops invites all incoming 9 th graders who are interested in playing basketball to sign up for 1 st period basketball. Since we are allowing anyone to sign up for the basketball period there will be tryouts the first 3 days of school to see if the athletes need to remain in the period. This is not a tryout to assign athletes to specific teams. This is simply a tryout to see if the athlete is skilled enough to participate in the basketball program. We do this early so that students can get there schedule changed if they are not skilled enough to participate in the program. Coach McDonald urges those who do sign up for the basketball period to participate in the Hebron Lady Hawk Hoops Basketball camp during summer 2012 at Hebron High School. This camp is highly recommended for all incoming 9 th graders because it will give them a jump on making it through the tryouts. BASEBALL BOYS - stones@lisd.net or 469-948-3030 The baseball program is looking for young men with great work ethic, high character and good baseball skills. Fall Semester: Freshmen can sign up for offseason baseball in the fall. This class will be offered during 3rd period. The objective of this class is to help with player development. Activities will include overall baseball skill work, weight training and conditioning. This is not a P.E. class. Participation in this class does not guarantee placement on the team. Spring Semester: Freshmen baseball class moves to 1st period during the spring.
Tryouts for baseball take place the last weekend of January. On average, 14-16 freshmen will be selected to field a team. CHEERLEADING BOYS/GIRLS weberd@lisd.net Class meets 4 th period fall and spring. Cheerleaders must have flexible evening/weekend schedules to cheer at various sporting events fall, winter, and spring. Mandatory camp the week after school gets out and mandatory practices two weeks prior to school starting. Tryouts are in March, the week before spring break. E-mail roser@lisd.net for information. Cost is approximately $1,000.00 (if items are purchased new) which can be paid in installments March May. CROSS COUNTRY BOYS/GIRLS grennierj@lisd.net Class meets 1 st period fall and spring. In-season practice begins at 6:45a.m. Meets are Saturday mornings from late August to late November. Students must start summer practice approximately two weeks BEFORE school begins. Optional Tuesday and Thursday practices are held throughout summer. Students can expect strenuous conditioning. No previous school participation is required. Cost participation in all fundraisers and any personal items. FOOTBALL BOYS - brazilb@lisd.net Class meets 4 th period fall and spring. Monday Wednesday practice will continue after school until 6:00p.m. Games are Thursday night. Friday practice during school period. No previous school participation is required. Students must start summer practice approximately two weeks before school begins. Students should understand that strenuous conditioning and physical contact are involved. Cost participation in all fundraisers and any personal item. GOLF BOYS/GIRLS griffinc@lisd.net Class meets 4 th period fall and spring. Practices are held 2 to 3 hours a day Monday Friday. All players must have intermediate to advanced skill level, a working knowledge of the USGA rules and regulations of golf and prior tournament experience. SAPPHIRES JV DRILL TEAM - GIRLS - bowlingk@lisd.net Try-outs are held in April of each school year. Dance training is not required. The Sapphires run for conditioning during the year but not for try outs. The dance team performs hip hop at one pep rally and varsity basketball games. The dance team performs hip hop at all pep rallies. Varsity football halftime performances include Jazz, Pom, Kick, Military and Prop. The team competes at dance competitions with advanced technical skills added such as switch leaps, fouette s and spinning disks. Solo and ensemble performances available. Anyone can try-out; however, prior soccer experience and knowledge is beneficial. Students wishing to tryout need to have a strong work ethic and a dedication to the sport. Soccer is in season January through March. Preliminary tryouts are the first week of school and final tryouts occur the week after Thanksgiving. SOCCER GIRLS ramirezed@lisd.net 469-948-2866 or 469-948-3075 In the fall, the class will meet 2 nd period for incoming freshman or any new players to the program. Some returning JV players may be placed in this class as well. 3 rd period will be reserved for returning Varsity players or players approved to be in the class by the coach. Scheduling conflicts may occur, but approval is required from the coach to be in the class. Consideration to making any team will be based on work ethic, grades, participation, and attitude, and discipline with regards to the Hebron Code of Conduct. Try-outs will be held the week after Thanksgiving. Three teams will be selected at the end of that week. The JV2 team will have 18-20 members. The JV team will have 18-20 members, and the Varsity team will have 18-20 members. Any student interested in being a manager should contact the coach. In the spring, the class will meet during 2 nd period for JV2 and then 4 th period for JV and Varsity Roster members only. Cost for the girl s soccer program includes $35.00 for membership, various fundraising activities throughout the semester, and team dinners. Participation in Homecoming events and any other event sponsored by the Booster Club are strongly encouraged. SOFTBALL GIRLS jacksonse@lisd.net Both JV and Varsity teams will meet 1st period in both the fall and spring. Offseason is from the first day of school until the end of January during 1 st period. The official season begins at the end of January. Once season begins, JV skills practice is from 6:30 8:00 a.m. Then, during 1 st period both teams train doing various strength and conditioning exercises. Varsity then comes after school for skills practice from 4:00-6:00 p.m.. The season runs from the end of January until the end of April and then continues into May if we make the playoffs.
*All incoming 9 th graders should have played on a rec or select softball team and attended the Hebron Softball summer camp prior to entering the 9 th grade. An athlete should be able to throw a ball at least 60 feet, catch a ball traveling at a high speed, and hit a ball at least 90 feet traveling at least 50 MPH. Skills involved in softball are throwing, catching, hitting, fielding, and running. Previous knowledge of the game of fastpitch softball is highly recommended before getting into the softball class, such as position play. Must have a glove and cleats to participate. Lastly, softball is considered a contact sport and participants should be aware that the basic fundamentals of fastpitch softball are important to the safety and the enjoyment of the sport. SWIMMING AND DIVING BOYS/GIRLS - chagnonj@lisd.net or 469-948-2751 Class meets 1 st period fall and spring for Varsity and 4 th period fall and spring for JV. Varsity practices 6:45a.m. 8:45a.m. and JV practices 2:45p.m. 4:15p.m.. Monday Friday. For swimming, participant will have to show knowledge of the sport and can make at least one length of the pool without assistance. For diving, experience is not required. Cost can range $50.00 to $100.00 depending on the equipment purchased. TENNIS BOYS/GIRLS -cowgillcj@lisd.net or 682-433-9271 Class meets 1 st period fall and spring for JV and 4 th period for varsity as well as practice after school. Students wishing to tryout for the tennis team should have an understanding of the basic rules of the game of tennis. Students should also be able to perform basic skills which include the serve, the volley, and ground-strokes. Generally speaking, students wishing to make a team should have received some form of instruction before trying out. TRACK BOYS/GIRLS grennierj@lisd.net Class meets 4 th period fall and spring. Meets are Saturday from late February to late April. If a student is in another sport or field event, they will practice after school from 4:15p.m. to 5:30p.m. No previous school participation is required. Students should expect strenuous conditioning. Cost participation in all fundraisers and any personal items. VOLLEYBALL GIRLS keeneyk@lisd.net Class meets 1 st period fall and spring. In season, practices will be held after school for ALL teams. Games are Tuesday and Fridays with some weekend tournaments and/or practices. Tryouts are mandatory and start the first week in August, BEFORE school begins. EVERYONE must have a UIL physical prior to tryouts every year. Team camp is the last week in July (3-5 days) and although it is NOT mandatory, it is beneficial to those athletes who are trying out for volleyball. It is IMPERATIVE that athletes receive information from Coach Keeney before August tryouts. Information can be found in a
summer packet that will be delivered to all our feeder middle schools in MAY. The packet will give parents/athletes important dates and paperwork that are necessary for August tryouts. Conditioning and weightlifting occur year round with offseason workouts that include running, footwork, plyometrics and skill training. Athletes wanting to tryout need to understand that the volleyball program s expectations have high demands on student/athletes. We pride ourselves on our work ethic and hold ourselves to a high standard on the court and in the classroom. Many athletes play club volleyball and although it is very beneficial, it is not mandatory. Athletes will be measured on athleticism, skill, and knowledge of the game. WRESTLING BOYS - rozanskid@lisd.net Wrestling meets during 4 th period. Practices will be until 5:30p.m. Monday Friday with weekend competitions. Wrestling included three seasons pre-season (first day of school to third week in October) features weightlifting and introduction to wrestling. In-season (third week of October to third week of February) and post-season (first week of March to the end of school year) that will primarily include weight-training.
