It's the day after the Commodore's Ball and what a great time was had by all! We had a big turnout. I had several people (from other lakes) at the Ball say "you Clear Laker's are so lucky to have a place to come, meet people and have such a great time. We wish we had something like the Yacht Club". There were a lot of smiles, laughter and story telling. Good food and a great band finished off the night. Congratulations to Jim Geiger on receiving the Joyce Schavey award. You deserve it! Commodore Derold Covell Vice Commodore Lisa Baker Secretary (Open) The Commodore s Corner Treasurer Sandy Ayres Commodore Ex-Officio Chad Korte Sailing School Chair Chris Hughes Tennis Chair Barb Wenger At the Annual Board Meeting, a large crowd came forth to express their concerns about the future of the Yacht Club. The old gal has some major issues that need addressed NOW! The front porch area where the double doors are to the bar needs a new support beam. We need to drain a lot of water out from under the building. Removing the water would preserve the Yacht Club. Other future improvements include new siding, roofing, and plumbing. We have a fundraiser going on right now to help with some of these improvements -- buy your patio brick from Lisa Baker @ $50. Each brick comes with custom engraving. (See flyer attached.) It was also proposed by Jim Geiger, House Chairman, to look at possibly adding onto the bar area with new bathrooms and more storage for the bar items. We need storage badly. This would keep most of the plumbing in one area. We are not going to rebuild or drastically change the existing Yacht Club without input from you. But we must maintain the Yacht Club for now and for future generations. We will keep you posted as things progress with our Yacht Club. If you have suggestions, please contact any Yacht Club Board Member. Looking forward to next year! V O L U M E 7 5, I S S U E 5 P a g e 2 TGIF Inside Scoop There are only three TGIF Fridays left on the calendar and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all who helped this summer and contributed to many fantastic events. I have great news to share Sheila Fuzy has agreed to come aboard and lend her expertise to our TGIF events! Next summer s calendar will be full of surprises and new evenings to enjoy. Let me know if you would like to help out on any given date or event. It takes all attending members to donate their time to a committee and their kitchen to make a dessert or appetizer and the result is a summer we can all enjoy at the Yacht Club. Joyce Schavey has decided to retire from our program and it is Joyce we can thank for originating the TGIF event many years ago. She made an enormous contribution to the Yacht Club and is now taking time to enjoy all her new grandchildren. Sept 2 is Sandwiches by Hoosier Q Daddy. They have been rated No. 5 in National Competition for BBQ pulled pork butts. A Sundae Bar will also be featured that evening.... Sandy Ayres Sept 9 is Comfort Food a Joyce Schavey special dinner. Enjoy pot roast, mashed potatoes, gravy and green bean casserole!! Sept 16 no TGIF but if you are lonely, grab a munchie and pop into the bar and visit with friends. Sept 23 is our last TGIF and it s the Fall Party and CHILI COOK-OFF. Dust off your chili or soup recipe and enter the second annual cookoff. Please email Sandy if you plan to compete we need to make sure we have enough electrical outlets for all those crock pots.

V O L U M E 7 5, I S S U E 5 P a g e 3 Ski Club News... by Erin Stephens This has been a fun summer for the Ski Club. Many thanks to our parents and friends who helped us put on a great ski show we couldn t do it without you! And we appreciate all who came out to watch the show. Another thank-you goes to the Clear Lake Yacht Club Program Fund for the grant they gave us to purchase an outdoor movie system. We look forward to some fun movie nights on the Yacht Club lawn next summer. Officers for next year are: Alivia Behnfeldt, President Taryn Gay, Vice-President Maddy Morris, Treasurer Erin Stephens, Secretary Josey Korte, junior officer-assistant treasurer Nick Ginn, junior officer Rudy Koesters, junior officer Here are two important dates for next summer to put on your calendar: June 2, 2012 First Ski Club meeting at 10 AM July 29, 2012 Ski Show

V O L U M E 7 5, I S S U E 5 Sailing School P a g e 4... Chris Hughes We had a fun and successful Sailing School in July! The wind gods smiled on us and gave us enough breeze to get the kids sailing all three days. The kids learned the basics of tacking and jibing, learned how to tie seven knots that will be handy for use around the lake, enjoyed some fun relay games, and participated in a couple of races. We have many thank yous that we d like to extend. To start, a huge thank you to the Clear Lake Marina for supporting our school with the donation of rope for our knot tying lessons. I would like to thank the instructors Megan Moss, Rachel Ladd, George Schenkel, Larry Schavey, Stan Robinson, and Tracy Hughes for volunteering their time. We couldn t have had such a great time with out all of you! Also thank you to the many lakers that let us borrow their sunfish, Marty and Julie Zachrich, Mike and Mary Jane Millikan, Megan and John Moss, Clif and Judy Fenton, Jerry and Diane McArdle, the Ladd and Hoeffel families, John and Nancy Wilhelm, Jim and Jody Horein, and Tom and Susan Kramer. With your help we were able to get all students on the water at the same time and many in their own boats! Keep your eyes open for the dates of our Sailing School next year. There will be a limited number of available participants. Please keep in mind that we are trying to upgrade our sailing fleet for the kids. If you have an old sunfish in your garage not being used, or some old parts laying around, consider giving them a new home at the Yacht Club. All donations to the sailing school are tax deductible. To make donations please contact Chris Hughes at 260-243-0448 or email the Sailing School at CLYCSailingSchool@gmail.com Please help us keep the Clear Lake kids out sailing! We can t wait to see everyone back on the water next year!!! Thanks. Chris Hughes, Sailing School Chairman

V O L U M E 7 5, I S S U E 5 Tennis News P a g e 6... Barb Wenger Thanks again to all the coaches and kids who participated in tennis lessons this year. Each participant was given a snazzy red t- shirt that had a map of Clear Lake and a star marking the CLYC tennis courts. There s still a little bit of summer and fall yet to use the courts. For everyone that takes flight after Labor Day, see you next year on the courts.
