2 PAGE 2 Commodore s Corner / Kevin Hart Sam and Sarah in Perfect Control of Their Sunfish It s already June, and the summer lake season is in full swing. We had an outstanding turnout of people to help with spring clean-up. TGIF s have been well attended, the sailing season is underway, and overall, it is shaping up to be another memorable summer at CLYC. Thanks to Paula Kaufman and Joyce Schavey for their hard work to make TGIF s an outstanding success. Rick Johnston has been working diligently of improve the parking situation at the club. It is our hope that we will have improved parking facilities this summer. The board is looking into other improvements at the club, including replacing the existing lighting fixtures, as they do not provide effective lighting. As a final note, our thoughts and prayers are with our friend, and long time Clear Laker, Clarence, Hymie, Geiger as he fights his battle with leukemia. To those who know Hymie, he is an outstanding fisherman, artist, and most importantly, a friend to all. We wish Hymie and his family the best as he faces this struggle. my address is 1054 Lake Drive; ph: ; kkhart@verizon.net. Sailing Camp a Great Success!!! Spike and the Bulldogs will be at the Club July 27 OPEN TO THE PUBLIC Some of the Sailing Camp 2007 participants with Coaches Jim, Jack, Bob, George and Isaiah Eighteen students spent three days (June 18-20) at CLYC learning sailing. We had great wind (sometimes too much and not too little) so a great time was had by all. The first day we practiced capsize and recovery and reaching control. The second day we moved to windward/ leeward work and proper tacking technique. The third day we practiced starts and held two races across the lake. One race was interrupted by a break at the island. The participants were: Rudy Koesters, Tanner, Zack, and Seth Grant, Stephanie Schenkel, Erin Sanderson, Sam Pacult, Ben, Patrick, and T.J. Butler, Maddy and Kate Morris, Annie and Mary Rumsey, Sarah Schmidt, Michael and Jonathon Moss, and Nathan Pritchard. We owe a big THANK YOU to the four coaches: Bob Grimes, George Schenkel, Jack Sanderson, and Jim Grant. Isaiah Grant also served as student coach with his injured ankle. An additional sailing camp is scheduled for August 6 through the 8th. It will follow the same format as this one: running from 12:30 to 4:30 and costing just $50. All over 8 yrs of age are welcome! Register for the August Sailing Camp by calling or ing: From the Tennis Courts The tennis courts are ready for play! We're hoping to have Leo Weber and Barb Wenger back to teach our youth (dates to follow). And our annual steak/ lobster tennis social will be an event not to be missed! (date TBD). Contact us with ideas or needs regarding tennis at CLYC. Megan Morris bobmegnyc@yahoo.com or Susan Kramer tekramer@msn.com or
