1 SOUTH LAKE TAHOE YACHT CLUB ANCHOR NEWSLETTER JUNE 2018 NEW CLUBHOUSE ADDRESS 589 TAHOE KEYS BLVD SUITE E2 SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA 96150
2 A WORD FROM COMMODORE LINDA Summer is upon us & we are ready to enjoy it in our New Clubhouse! The Clubhouse is decorated & set up for activities. Although the room is smaller we have heat, air conditioning & running water. What more could we ask for! The first event, our Membership Drive/Open House was a great success. We had 39 people in attendance & the possibility of 5+ new members. As I said before, the primary goal for this year is to grow our membership. We have a couple of good leads for groups in SLT that we hope to tap into. If you know of any others please let me know. Please talk about the Yacht Club to your friends & bring them to any of our activities to see if they are interested in joining our club. In answer to your questions about when we will have our ABC License. The process is moving along & believe me it is not an easy one. And I am afraid it may take most of the summer. Therefore, until such time as we have our license, our events will have to be BYOB. That is unless we can figure out something else. We have set most of our calendar for 2018 although we will probably be adding more events as we go along. See the calendar in this Newsletter & of course an updated version is always on our website. Beach Clean Up at Kiva Beach is underway on the 2 nd and 4 th Mondays at 10 am each summer month. We will be having a TGIS at the Clubhouse June 16 th and Putt & Pizza on June 28. See attached flyers for these events. Our next Social Event & General Meeting will be a Luau on Saturday July 21 at 5:30 at the Clubhouse. More information coming soon. Some of our members had voiced an interest in learning to sail or assisting with races. The Windjammers will be sponsoring a Sailing Skills Clinic on July 14, 2018 at the clubhouse. Cost for SLTYC Members is $35. See flyer in this Newsletter. We have tried to have a variety of events planned this year so there is something for everyone. If you have some other ideas please let me know. Hope to see all of you at the Clubhouse this summer.
3 MEMBER PASSING MARV GOSHORN On June 1, 2018 after a short illness, my beloved husband Marv embarked on his voyage to heaven. Marv was a career Lockheed Corporation senior financial manager, having served in domestic and international assignments over more than three decades. As a gregarious, caring and charitable person, he set a positive and happy tone for all those around him. His smile and humor were his trademark. An ardent sailor, Marv defined his boat as a hole in the water into which he poured money. He was member of the Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe, working for many years as a co-coordinator with the annual car raffle. Marv was also a Life Member of the South Lake Tahoe Yacht Club, serving two terms as Commodore. He is survived by his wife of 22 years. Marv was 83 years old. An 8 Bell ceremony will be conducted by the SLTYC, followed by a Celebration of Life, on Sunday July 15, 2018 at 2pm at the Cantina Restaurant.
