Aug 19 CLLC Kasota Island Church Service Sept 21 Fall Party and Chili Cook-off Life is good here at Clear Lake. Well, this is my last newsletter as the 2012 Commodore. I want to thank all of you for a great year at our Clear Lake Yacht Club. I ve met many new friends (hope you have too) at the Club along with visiting with old friends. We have two months of good food and entertainment to enjoy with the Commodore s Ball on August 18th. Invitations were mailed to all Club members and we had a little issue with the new addresses on the lake. So we apologize if you did not receive your invitation everyone is invited. (A copy of the invitation is shown below in case you didn t receive yours.) Enjoy the rest of the summer! Derold Covell COMMODORE S BALL AUGUST 18 DID YOU KNOW The first organized meeting of the Clear Lake Yacht Club was held on July 4, 1935 at the Mirador Hotel.

Page 2 VOLUME 76 ISSUE 4 SUNSET CRUISE AUGUST 11... Sandy Ayres Wonderful news we now have a volunteer to open up their home for the Sunset Cruise dinner. We will be dining in a beautiful waterfront home on Saturday, August 11. We will meet at the Yacht Club for a drink and dine on appetizers on our boat ride to the dinner and dessert. We ll need a few volunteers for pontoon boats. This is a catered dinner so reservations are a must by midnight August 6. Price of the event is $35.00 per person. Please email Sandy Ayres (ayrs1225@gmail.com) or call at 260-437-2130 with your RSVP. We look forward to a beautiful evening. JUNIOR TENNIS NEWS... by Sandy Ginn & Barb Wenger Watch out Wimbledon.the Clear Lake Junior Tennis stars are hitting the courts and improving their skills. Sandy Ginn organized the free tennis lessons for 3 weeks in July two mornings each week. She was assisted by coaches Susan Kramer, Megan Morris, Leo Weber and Barb Wenger. A group of about 15 kids arrived anxious to learn the basics of tennis and learn some tennis trivia as well. There is some real talent on this lake. We hope they will come out often and practice. Wild and crazy tennis group!!!! Our junior tennis season was plagued by several rain-outs. Our last lesson was carried out inside the Yacht Club playing ball control games.

We made 235 Hummers and our Men's Night organizer, Todd Fuzy, said we made at least 120 people happy. This is a record, as past years have not reached anything close to this. Well done...i think this would make Bert Elliot proud. (FYI, Bert was off making a keynote presentation to some Hummer Convention somewhere.) Our "Blender Boys" (that's Gerry Miller, By Dickes, Ron Kummer, Leo Weber, Jack Horrell, Mike Franz) kept well ahead of the Sales gang and clearly lived up to our motto of "Quality before cleanliness". Our Production and Quality guys (Roger Miller, Klaus Wenger, Tim Ginn) covered very well. All drinks were "dusted". And finally the Sales Staff (Bones Walters, Tom Kramer, Zach Dean, Darrell Lapham) used the chocolate cookie sticks to enhance service. I must report that the two rookies outsold Bones and Tom by 35%...Congrats Darrell and Zach. And Thanks to the whole team...well done!!! The Rookies of the Year were announced but the "Most improved" award is still under review...roger Miller is clearly a candidate for his clean up efforts. Respectfully, Jim Horein

Page 4 VOLUME 76 ISSUE 4 SAILING SCHOOL A BIG SUCCESS We had a fun and successful Sailing School in July! The wind gods smiled on us and gave us enough breeze to get the kids sailing all 3 days. The kids learned the basics of tacking and jibing, learned how to tie 7 knots that will be handy for use around the lake, found the excitement of the America s Cup that starts Aug 21st, enjoyed some fun relay games, and participated in a race.... by Chris Hughes 3 days of sailing! Keep your eyes open for the dates of our Sailing Camp next year. There will be a limited number of available participants. Please keep in mind that we are trying to upgrade our sailing fleet for the kids. If you have an old sunfish in your garage not being used, or some old parts lying around, consider giving them a new home at the Yacht Club. V O L U M E 7 6 I S S U E 4 P a g e 6 SAILING NEWS... by Marty Zachrich We currently have 23 sailing members. A typical race might have up to 16 sailboats. Saturday winds have been either too light to sail or too windy. We only had one real race in July plus the 4 th of July Fun Race, which didn t count in the standings but was a lot of fun for all as we gathered at the island afterwards. Sundays, however, have been beautiful sailing days for the Flying Scot sailors. Results for July 28: 1st Chris Frank; 2nd Marty Zachrich; 3rd John Cochran; 4th Brian Barr; 5th Chris Hughes PICTURE DIRECTORY... By Barb Wenger If you are like me, there are members of the Clear Lake Yacht Club that you know you have met numerous times, but you are not sure of their names. Perhaps having a Picture Directory would help connect the face with a name. I am going to try to create this directory in the coming year. The directory will include your name, summer address, phone number and a picture. I will start with just a picture of the adult members. Maybe down the road we will include a picture of your kids. If you are interested in being a part of this directory, please email me your photo. I am looking for a head shot of yourself (with your spouse/significant other if you have one listed in the directory). You can take the picture with a cell phone or a digital camera. I do not need a high resolution photo. If possible, send a JPEG file and use your last name as the file name. Email the photo to me at barbwenger@gmail.com If this sounds like techno mumbo jumbo, ask a kid to take your picture and send it to me. They can do this in their sleep!! If we get good immediate response, I ll try to email the Picture Directory before the end of the summer.
