When under pressure in the straight, Aldo lay in. L Coffey (Aussie Creed) reported that his mount knuckled badly on jumping away and from that point on, did not feel right in its action. A post race veterinary Race 2 HIGHVIEW ACCOUNTING SERVICES 3YO MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres: Rough Decision and Left In My Wake were slow to begin. A short distance after the start, Left In My Wake (R Maloney) clipped the heels of Synthetic (NZ), got unbalanced and lost ground. When questioned with regard to the incident, R Maloney was of the view there may have been a shift from the inside from Marvellous Choice. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Golden Kiss raced wide without cover in the early stages, before gaining a position outside the leader near the 800 metres. Due to the slow tempo, Synthetic (NZ) over raced and had to be checked off the heels of Beirut approaching the 600 metres. This was as a result of Beirut being eased to avoid the heels of Golden Kiss. Rounding the home turn, Beirut lay out. Synthetic (NZ) hung in badly in the home straight proving difficult for M Zahra, to ride out in his normal manner. Race 3 WINNING EDGE MAIDEN PLATE - 1300 metres: Heathy Boy and Lochte were slow to begin and for a short distance after the start, were inconvenienced by El Tabar, which was crowded for room by Declined, which shifted out. At the same time, Elfield shifted in slightly from the outside barrier. Artie s Son jumped away awkwardly. On leaving the gates, Heavenly Rose shifted out and bumped Drunken Master, which became unbalanced and lost a little ground. In the early stages, Heavenly Rose and Toyed over raced. For some distance in the early part of the straight, Declined (P Mertens) was held up for a run when being shifted to the outside of Quick Chevelle near 100m, momentarily tightened Heavenly Rose onto Toyed. P Mertens was advised to exercise more care.
When asked about his riding around the home turn, P Mertens (Declined) stated that, although he was in a position to come to the outside of Toyed when the eventual winner, Get On Down, commenced to make his run around the field and to his outside, he attempted to quicken his mount to take up the running outside Toyed, however; the gelding did not respond and as a consequence he was obliged to go back to the rail with the hope of a run developing shortly after. D Stackhouse (Toyed) could offer no explanation for the poor performance. A post race veterinary Race 4 BRADNAM S WINDOWS & DOORS MAIDEN PLATE - 2060 metres: Western Heir jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with the hindquarters of Holy Lord, resulting in Western Heir getting unbalanced and losing ground. From passing the 500 metres until on straightening, It s Martini Time lay out. When under pressure in the straight, Fleurissime lay in and proved a little difficult for S Wynne to ride out in her normal manner. Race 5 BROWNS SAWDUST & SHAVINGS SHOWCASE 0-64 HANDICAP - 2060 metres: Prior to the declaration of correct weight N Callow (Kafil), third placegetter, viewed the stewards' video before deciding not to lodge an objection. P Mertens, rider of Fire Truck, which finished second past the post, lodged an objection against Suspended Gem (NZ) (V Duric) being declared firstplacegetter on the grounds of alleged interference near the 200 metres. On the evidence, it was established that passing the 200 metres Fire Truck was tightened and became badly unbalanced between Kafil and Suspended Gem (NZ), which shifted out when not clear. However; as the Stewards were of the view that had such interference not occurred, Fire Truck would not have finished in front of Suspended Gem (NZ) at the end of the race, given the margin of ¾ of a length and therefore dismissed the objection with correct weight being declared. V Duric (Suspended Gem NZ) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provision of AR137(a) in that passing the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift out whilst riding along, when not clear of Fire Truck, resulting in that horse being hampered. V Duric s licence to ride in races was suspended for a total of ten meetings to commence midnight 25 November, 2013 and to expire midnight 2 December, 2013. (2 metro, 8 provincial). In assessing penalty, Stewards were of the view that the incident qualified for the mid range category of carelessness and took into account his guilty plea and his good record. Virenque dipped on leaving the gates. For a considerable distance in the middle stages, Eight Carat Queen over raced. Near the 1000 metres, Virenque was checked from the heels of Eight Carat Queen. Oceanographer was held up from the 400 metres and failed to gain clear running until inside the 200 metres.
Near the 300 metres, Eight Carat Queen was shifted out to avoid the heels of Rickelva, which was weakening and in doing so got unbalanced and lost ground. It was noted after the race, that Suspended Gem (NZ) had cast the near hind plate. B Rawiller, rider of Eight Carat Queen, which performed poorly, explained that the mare over raced in the early stages and after receiving interference near the 300 metres, lost its momentum and then failed to run on when placed under pressure. A post race veterinary examination revealed Eight Carat Queen had sustained a cut to the right hock. Race 6 CITY OF CASEY SHOWCASE BM70 HANDICAP - 1200 metres: The connections of Our Nkwazi advised Stewards that it was the stable s intention to ride the gelding back in an attempt to get it to settle. Our Nkwazi settled in a mid field position. You Tell Me jumped away very awkwardly and lost ground. Alert The Jeweller was slow to begin. Throughout the event, Spirit Cent raced wide without cover. Approaching the 600 metres, You Tell Me got its head up and was checked when momentarily tightened by Subiaso, which was racing tight to the inside of Minute By Minute (J Darose), which shifted in slightly. In all of the circumstances, no direct action was taken other than to notify J Darose that she must give sufficient racing room to runners on her inside when in similar circumstances. On the point of the home turn, You Tell Me was checked when Subiaso shifted in momentarily. Approaching the 200 metres, Our Nkwazi shifted in when struck with the whip, obliging app R Bayliss to stop riding and straighten his mount. When under pressure in the straight, Subiaso lay out and near the 150 metres caused slight inconvenience to Polkaface. Approaching the 100 metres, Snip The Dancer was inconvenienced when Chow Meow momentarily shifted in. S Baster (Alert The Jeweller) reported the gelding did not appreciate today s firm track. V Duric, rider of Honour The Dame, which performed poorly, explained the mare was taken on for the lead in the early stages, however; did not appreciate today s firm track conditions. A post race veterinary After the race it was noted, that You Tell Me lost the off fore glue on shoe. Race 7 PROCON DEVELOPMENTS 0-64 HANDICAP - 1500 metres: Flying Filou sprawled on leaving the gates. When the gates opened, Thingamajig shifted out and bumped Seven Degrees. On several occasions passing the 1400 metres, Riboulding shifted in and bumped Flying Filou.
P Mertens, rider of Seven Degrees, which performed poorly, explained the gelding over raced mid race, however; gave ground passing the 500 metres and failed to respond to his riding. A post race veterinary J Noonan, rider of Flying Filou, which performed below expectations, reported the gelding did not travel well, however; made some ground when placed under pressure in the straight and was of the view Flying Filou was looking for more ground. When questioned regarding his riding of Under The Leaner, J Hill explained that the gelding had been very slow to leave the gates at its previous starts with the gelding taking up rearward position, however; after beginning well tonight, Under The Leaner was able to lead the field. Race 8 JOHN DUFF & CO 0-64 HANDICAP - 1300 metres: Bruntwood (NZ) shifted in at the start making heavy contact with the hindquarters of Spencer Street, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. On leaving the gates, Jeune De Coeur and Fenestron bumped, resulting in Jeune De Coeur becoming unbalanced. Madame Sleeper raced wide without cover. Rounding the home turn, Fenestron lay in under pressure tightening the running of Beau Baron, which became unbalanced. Bruntwood (NZ), which was making ground in the home straight, was held up over the concluding stages. R Bayliss (Smooth General) was fined $200 for breaching the provisions of AR137(A)(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on six occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100 metres. When questioned regarding her riding of Bruntwood, app J Beriman explained that the gelding was having its second start from a long break due to injury and was not suited by the distance of tonight s race. She said after receiving interference at the start, she niggled Bruntwood for a short distance in the early stages, however; the gelding did not travel and raced well back. She added that she placed Bruntwood under pressure coming to the home turn where the gelding responded and made reasonable ground in the straight. App J Beriman was severely reprimanded and notified that her riding of Bruntwood in the early and middle stages was of concern and in similar situations, she would be expected to ride her mount with more urgency, with the aim of getting her mounts into the race where possible. P Mertens, rider of Emperor s Chariot, which performed poorly, reported that the gelding hung in for the majority of the race and this had a detrimental effect on the gelding s chances. A post race veterinary B Rawiller (Buster McGee) reported his mount began well and for this reason took up a more forward position than its normal racing pattern.
