ZCRA NewsLetter No 26 June 2001 Summer Fete 8 July The annual ZCRA fete is being held this year from 1pm to 5:30pm on Sunday 8 July outside the Community Centre. There is something for everyone, so do please come along with family and friends and enjoy a great afternoon s entertainment within Zebon Copse Estate. We'll have a barrel of Hogs Back TEA beer to tempt real ale tasters, plus plenty of other beer, lager and supporting drinks in the fully licensed bar. Live music will be provided by the 6-piece New Excel from Farnborough. lead Hogs Back TEA beer BBQ Soft drinks Ice Cream football races bouncy castle wobbly bikes fancy dress parade face painting The ever-popular ZCRA BBQ will be back again this year with jumbo sausages and hamburgers from Clark's Butchers of Fleet, so come hungry. A first for ZCRA will be Church Crookham WI s tea and cakes available all afternoon. Soft drinks and ice cream (from the new ZCRA chest freezer) will be available for all the family separately from the bar. There'll be lots for the kids including football and races, bouncy castle and other showground attractions, face painting and a fancy dress parade. Fancy Dress Parade 2:30pm Classes for 3-8, 9-12 year olds Prizes for most imaginative home made costumes Queries to Sheila Ashton 692940 Other firsts this year are mid-afternoon line dancing with audience participation, and a balloon race with a prize for the furthest returned. Crookham Village unfortunately had to cancel their fete this year due to the foot and mouth crisis, so ZCRA welcomes the addition to our fete of a selection of Crookham Village stalls and their famed Tug of War contest (bring a team!). Otherwise, we hope to see a great big turnout with everyone having a wonderful time in glorious sunshine. See you there! As always, we need help to set up, run and dismantle the fete. If you would like to volunteer, please come along to the Community Centre at 8pm on Friday 29 June for the Helpers Briefing meeting. Thanks largely to the amazing dedication of champion subs collector Kathy Roades, we now have record membership of over 730 households for this year. The ZCRA committee always seeks feedback from all round the estate, so please get in touch if you have a good idea or see problems. ¼m ZC Money At Risk It has come to light that a large amount of Section 106 money (taken from developers as planning gain during the building of Zebon Copse Estate) remains unspent. This money is legally bound to be used for leisure facilities in the vicinity of the development, but there are strong hints that Hart would like to spend much of the money on centralised facilities off the estate. Some of this money has already been allocated to a play area and basketball ring on the open space between Jessett Drive and Brandon Road. ZCRA has put in a very strong bid for the remaining funds to be spent within the estate on a mix of major enhancements to the Community Centre, an allweather path from Brandon Road to Jessett Drive with protective barriers to ZC Spar Shop The Spar shop at Frenchmans Creek is expected to re-open within the next few weeks under new management. You should get a flier from the new owners when it is about to open. A mini-supermarket is a major bonus for the estate, but there must be enough trade for it to be viable. So when it does re-open, please make regular use or we'll lose it again. Redfields Move The latest planning application by Redfields GC to move to a site at Bowling Alley on the A287 comes before the Hart Development Control Committee on 20 June. ZCRA would prefer the existing Centre to stay and thus avoid redevelopment of the site and the consequential loss of amenity. A wide range of local organisations, including ZCRA and Crookham Village Parish Council, oppose the move and will be combining forces to speak strongly against the application. Ch Crookham WI Church Crookham WI is looking for new members. They meet on the first Thursday of the month (except August) at 1:30 for 2pm in the Memorial Hall, Sandy Lane. Ring 615645 if you would like to know more, or speak to one of the ladies on the tea and cake stall at the fete. keep children away from traffic, sitting out facilities on open spaces, conservation work within the Copse, and a number of smaller projects to enhance the quality of life of residents. Crookham Village Parish Council has strongly supported the ZCRA bid, but is also keen to use some of the money to purchase part of Zephon Common (on the other side of the Swing Bridge). However, the amount required seems likely to compromise other projects which ZCRA feels would be of more direct benefit those who paid the money through property purchase prices. If you would like to know more about this topic, please contact David Jackson by phone or email (see over) or visit the ZCRA stand at the fete. Obstructing Pavements In a number of places around the estate, pavements are difficult to negotiate - especially for families - due to vegetation obstructing much of the width. If this applies outside your property, it is probably your responsibility to deal with it. Please be considerate of pedestrians. Otherwise, enforcement notices will arrive from HCC. Another major issue is people parking on pavements. Be advised that the Parish Council is working with the local police to try to reduce the inconvenience this causes. Park legally or risk a ticket. Swing Bridge Path HCC has agreed to deal with the very muddy stretch of Watery Lane which leads up to the Swing Bridge. The expectation is that scalpings will be Malthouse Bridge Malthouse Bridge has been temporality repaired after the wall was knocked down earlier this year. A footway has also been put in on the Northern Side and the pavement extended from the bridge to the Coal Pen towards Fleet. It is anticipated that HCC will rebuild the bridge in its existing style sometime next year to provide another footway on the Southern side whilst retaining the narrow road crossing as a traffic calming measure. Footpaths Open All of the local footpaths reopened from midnight on 8 June. Please follow the advice on notices beside paths that take you near livestock to minimise the risks to farm animals. Danvers Drive Traffic Late night noisy traffic, apparently linked to young people using the Community Centre car park for skate boarding and exhibitionist car manoeuvring, has caused disturbance to residents along the nearby section of Danvers Drive. But nothing has been reported recently, so maybe the problem has gone away for now? There have also been suggestions that many people drive at excessive speeds along Danvers Drive between Browning Road and the Community Centre, although this was not supported by a recent HCC traffic speed survey. Only one resident mentioned these issues when responding to the Parish Council about traffic calming. However, CVPC traffic calming reprofiled surface to plans have still to be finalised, so if you feel strongly about traffic issues anywhere on the estate, please write to the Clerk of Crookham Village Parish Council with a copy to ZCRA. rolled into a minimise the build up of further muddy deposits. It is hoped that the work will be completed by HCC before next winter. ZC Church Church services are held every Sunday at 9:30am in the Community Centre. Deacon Malcolm Knowles (628692) and his congregation would be delighted if you would join them. 27 August Walk Following the very successful Community Walk on Good Friday, it is planned to hold another on Bank Holiday Monday 27 August starting from the Community Centre at 2pm. The walk will be for about 4 miles and suitable for all ages, but not for push chairs. Refreshments will be available at a stop en route and there'll be a collection for Phyllis Tuckwell. Contact is David Jackson 615052. Farnborough Airfield David Jackson recently attended a briefing with TAG at Farnborough. The major news is that current movements are running at around 16,000 per year and that TAG are confident of reaching their 28,000 target. So aircraft noise could well nearly double before too long.
