5) FIRE FIGHTING METHODS Call the fire department. Always use water for extinguishing the flames. Prevent the product from heating up. Decomposition causes it to release toxic fumes of Cl -, NO x, and Na 2 O. The personnel in charge of intervening in the cases of emergency must wear protective equipment for fire fighting. a) Breathing apparatus whit independent air supply; a self protector with open or closed-circuit may be used b) Complete facemask with grey B filter for fumes and acidic gases. c) Jacket in Nomex III EN 531 II category d) Helmet with external crown in self-extinguishing material 6) ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES EMERGENCY Ensure adequate ventilation. Keep spectators away rope off the area. PROCEDURES: Avoid accidents, clean up immediately. Wear protective equipment to prevent skin and eye contact. METHODS AND MATERIALS FOR CONTAINMENT AND CLEAN UP: If the preparation is spilled because the container breaks or when pouring, collect the solids and flush with water, making sure to wear protective respiratory equipment and clothing when doing so and avoiding contact with the skin and eyes. If the preparation is spilled in a close room, aerate the room well after collecting the product to avoid dispersing dust particles in the room. The waste resulting from the clean up operation can be treated with sodium sulphite in controlled condition and by expert, qualified personnel. 7) HANDLING AND STORAGE PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING: CONDITIONS FOR SAFE STORAGE: Handling the preparation, avoiding dispersion of dust particle in the air. Always use plastic material for handling. Avoid contact with skin and avoid inhaling the dust. Never eat, drink or smoke when using the preparation. Store in the original closed and sealed container. When storing the preparation, place the container so that the label is easy to read. The containers must be placed on separate pallets and in dry and ventilated rooms. The containers must not be stoked with products classified as explosive; the products can be stocked with products classified as comburents using special measures. 8) EXPOSURE CONTROL/PERSONAL PROTECTION NATIONAL EXPOSURE No value assigned for this formulated product by Safe Work Australia STANDARDS: (SWA), however as published value for chlorine by ACGIH Threshold Limit Values 2002 as a substance that can grow in certain condition. ENGINEERING CONTROLS: Keep containers closed when not in use. In relation to the use of the preparation, the manager must take all measures and actions listed below in order to reduce the risk of exposed workers. The storage of the preparation must be performed in accordance with the provisions in Chapter 7 - Handling and storage. The conditions of storage, must meet the safety criteria for the storage of dangerous substances and preparations, both in the presence of incompatible materials, both as regards hygiene and health of the deposit (adequate ventilation, insulation from moisture, smooth and washable floors with collection basin. There should be procedures for the storage, handling and safe transport of containers. Specific procedures should be adopted in relation to the risks associated with handling the preparation, during the sampling and mixing with water for the preparation (the release of dust into the air) and being of use for the dispersion of aerosols during spreading the preparation with pressure equipment. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: Risk assessments should always be conducted to identify the hazards and in turn determine the appropriate personal protective equipment for the hazard. Employees must always use the protection device for the respiratory system, skin and eyes. Respiratory equipment: Full facemask whit combination AEB/P3 dust filter. The oxygen must never be less than 19,5%. If the rate of oxygen flows is less than this value the filter mask should not be used, and should be replaced whit isolating systems (self-respiratory). Hand protection: rubber gloves. Eye protection: safety goggles. Skin protection: waterproof work clothes. 9) PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES APPEARANCE: Solid, white, granular powder ODOUR: Chlorine odor PH (10% SOLUTION): 8,5 9.5 (a 20 C) SPECIFIC GRAVITY OR DENSITY: about 1 VAPOUR PRESSURE: No information available PERCENT VOLATILES: No information available BOILING POINT / RANGE: No information available FREEZING / MELTING POINT: No information available SOLUBILITY: 25 g/100 ml (20 C) in water FLASH POINT: Not relevant FLAMMABILITY LIMITS: Not relevant IGNITION TEMPERATURE: Not relevant SHELF LIFE: 10 years from manufacturing date (when stored as directed) OTHER: None Pagina 4 di 7
