Preston Manor On March the 1st, year five went on an exciting school trip to the Victorian house of Preston Manor. They had to dress up in a Victorian style costume and also they had to speak only when someone spoke to them. We interviewed 2 people from year 5 to see how the trip went! Q1. What did you think of the house when you first arrived? Lilly: The house was a bit boring, I thought it could use more decorations. Jess C: I thought it would be bigger than a normal Victorian house. Q2. Were the Housekeepers intimidating? Lilly: At first I thought they were scary but I got used to the fact they were intimidating. Jess C: Yes. I think they were strict but I managed not to get told off. Q3. What was your favourite thing you did? Lily: I really enjoyed getting all the juice out of an orange. It was satisfying. Jess: I liked churning the milk; it slowly turned to cream. Q4. What was your favourite room? Lily: My favourite room was the drawing room also I liked the ladies bedroom. Jess: My favourite room was the kitchen. It was fantastic fun. It looked like they all had a fabulous trip and learnt a lot about life in Victorian times. People all around the world buy red noses to raise money which goes towards poverty and poor disadvantaged children. Kingswood have been selling red noses in the school office. There are 10 different red noses to collect but there is one super rare one, the Franken-nose, which is silver and black. So many people were trying to get it that Mr Steele had to order a second batch of noses! This is the ultra-rare red nose! Also we were given a special comic relief book voucher for 1. World Book Day On Friday the 3rd of March it was World Book day. Everyone dressed up as a classic book character. I interviewed two of the World Book Day winners. I myself went as Matilda by Roald Dahl. Q.1) Who did you dress up as? Niamh: I dressed up as the Ice Queen from Narnia. Xavier: The Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. Q.2) Who wrote the book? Niamh: C.S Lewis. Xavier: Lewis Carol. Q.3) Why did you choose this character? Niamh: I picked Narnia because it is my favourite book. Xavier: I picked Alice In Wonderland because the Mad Hatter is mad and I am mad. Q.4) What did you feel like doing the catwalk? Niamh: I felt like I was a queen. YR 5 s AMAZING ASSEMBLY! On Friday 3rd March, YR5 performed in an amazing time traveling assembly, even granny wolf (Lucas) was talking! The assembly was all about the Victorians and Victorian art. We interviewed Mrs Waterson. Q1: How do you feel your class assembly went? Mrs Waterson: I thought they were brilliant because they spoke with really loud voices. Q2: Were you proud of your class when they finished the assembly and why? Mrs Waterson: I was really proud because we didn't have many practises and they had learnt their words really well. We also interviewed Jessica Hamill. Q1:Did you enjoy it and why? Jessica: Yes I enjoyed it because I had difficult words to remember and say and all my friends were smiling. Q2: How much time did you take to learn your words? Jessica: All of my spare time. Q3: Do you think YR 5 could of improved anything and if so, what? On Wednesday 8th March, YR6 went on a fantastic trip to France. They had a stunning time there. The trip included many exciting activities such as a visit to the Sea Life Centre, an extraordinary bowling game, a meaningful and emotional stroll through a war cemetery, a visit to a delicious smelling bakery where they even made their own croissants and to finish a nervous shopping trip to a French market ( where they had to use the French they had learnt in school to communicate with the stall holders!) We interviewed Chanel and Bobbie and this is what they said about their time in fabulous France. Q1: Did you enjoy it? And if so why? Chanel: Yes I thought it was brilliant! Bobbie: We had so much fun and had so many hilarious moments. Q2: What was your favourite part of the trip? Chanel: At the Boulangerie (bakery),the baker said petite and gave Izzy Croos a tiny croissant! We all giggled. Forest school for year R Book Review Competition Yr. 5 Student Teacher In Year R, they have been going into the forest to learn more about nature. I interviewed Mrs Smith to find out more. Q.1) What do you enjoy about forest school? Mrs Smith.) Being out in the open, outside and doing lots of activities that you can t do at school. Q.2) What do you do at forest school? Mrs Smith.) We find mini beasts, learn about nature and the seasons and we build dens and use team work. Q.3) Why do you think you take the children to forest school Mrs Smith.) Because it is important for their social skills and its good exercise. They also learn how to respect the forest. It sounds like it is a fun way to learn. Interviewing Jess Clark Q.1) Why did you organise the competition? Jess C.) To inspire people to read more and to decorate the library. Q.2)Were you allowed to judge your class? Jess C.) No, but we were allowed to judge all other classes. Q.2) Have you judged the book reviews yet? Yes, we looked at them in our last meeting on Monday. The ones displayed in the library were alhave a look at Before the Easter break, Yr5 had a new student teacher called Mr Blackmore. I interviewed him a few weeks ago to see if he is enjoying his time at Kingswood. Interviewing Mr Blackmore Q.1) Have you enjoyed it in Yr. 5? Mr Blackmore.) Yes because they behave well and know how to have fun. Q.2) Would you like to carry on working here? Mr Blackmore.) If I get a good grade at college I would love to work here. Q.) What lessons have you enjoyed most? I really liked it when we were learning about the Victorians in our history lessons. Q.2)Would you like to go back to your old school or carry on at Kingswood? New Office Secretary Jonelle. At the end of last term, Chloe sadly left us so she could spend more time with her children. Her last day was crazy hair day so it was a very fun day for her to remember her time here. We have a new receptionist called Jonelle. We interviewed her about her time here so far. How are you settling in so far? I think I am settling in well so far and am feeling very important about my new role. What was your last job before you came here? My last job was a playground supervisor at your school and when Chloe left I decided to fill her space. Do you enjoy working here? Yes. I enjoy working here and I think I will enjoy working here for many years to come. Do you think your term has been a good one? Do you like newsletter and why? Paige: I like it because there is a lot of responsibility and I love typing and writing! Bonnie: I like it because its fun and helps me practise typing! At the end of the year do you think you will be as good as the originals? Paige: I think I might be after I ve been here for a while! Bonnie: I think I might be a bit better! Why do you think you were chosen? Paige: I think I was chosen because I show interest in computing! Bonnie: I believe I was chosen because I am good at writing! Article by Lucas and Archie Year 6 Quiz Towards the end of the spring term, four year six`s took part in a quiz that lasted two rounds, one here and one at another school. We interviewed them to ask their opinion on how they did. How do you think you did? Daniel: I think we did very well over both the rounds which we played in. What type of questions were you given? Bethany: We was asked general knowledge and some exceedingly hard questions. Did you enjoy it and why? Aarthy: We enjoyed the first round as we won it but also the second round because we could show our skills and we tried our best. Who did the best performance? On the 12th of March several girls from year five, year four and year 6 went to play football in a match. They had lots of fun playing at Walton Primary School. We interviewed 2 of the players to ask how the match went. Did you win the match and who scored? Julia: We drew, the score was 2-2. Gemma: I scored both the goals and Julia and Jess H assisted me. Who were you against and were they good? Julia: Walton, and yes they were challenging. Gemma: They were ok. They also played a very fair game. Who was in your team. Julia: Me, Gemma, Jess, Caitlyn, Maddie and Bonnie. Gemma: The year 6 and 4s were Chloe, Indigo, Beth and Katie. Who played the best and why? Julia: I would say Maddie because she was good at tackling and made a lot of passes. Gemma: Indigo because she did really well in goal and made lots of saves. By Etienne and Chris Cross Country During the spring term, Mrs Massimo and Mrs Box took children from years 4, 5 and 6 to Woodmansterne Primary school to take part in cross country. Cross Country is where you run long distance, year four had to run half a mile and 5 and 6 had to run about a mile. We interviewed 2 people from year 5 about the race. Where did you come? Sam: 13th Maddie: 3rd What would you describe the run as? Sam: Intense and exhilarating. Maddie: Fun, but tiring. Why did you get chosen? Sam: Because I have got good stamina and you need that for cross country running. Maddie: Because I am fast and keep going. On scale of one to ten how much fun was the run? Sam: 8 and a half. Maddie: 9 and a half. Well done runners keep on running! They played against St Annes, Banstead and Walton in group A. Now lets interview two of the players. Q1. Who scored the goals. Were they good. Jess H: Jess C and I scored the goals, they were very good. Julia: Jess C and Jess H scored and together they scored 8 goals! Q2. Who played where and why. Jess H: My position was centre midfield and goal attacker. Julia: We played everywhere so it was fair. Q3. Who was your star player. Jess H: I think Jess C she played well. Julia: Definitely Jess C, she was soooo good. Q4. How many games did you win and did you get through. Jess H: We won 2 and lost 1. Julia: Unfortunately, we did not get through.
