FAST FACTS ABOUT THE STADIUM Nizhny Novgorod Stadium has been built in a historical Strelka district at the confluence of the Volga and Oka rivers. The area offers a wonderful view of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, situated on the other side of the Oka. The stadium's design is inspired by aspects of nature in the Volga region - water and wind, and boasts vivid colour patterns of white, navy blue and azure. The massive roof that rests on a metal framework weighting more than 11,000 tonnes is offset by the light façade and the translucent rooftop. 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP VENUE SPECIFIC TRAINING SITES 1. Training site Meshchera. 2. Training Center Meschersky. 3. Lokomotiv Stadium. One of the training sites, Lokomotiv Stadium, was the home arena for the local team, FC Olympiec, in 2016-2018. It has been renovated for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. 1 2 NIZHNY NOVGOROD STADIUM The two other training sites were built from scratch near Meshcherskoye Lake, close to each other. The first one, part of the Meshchera Sports Academy, is currently in the pre-commissioning stage, and the other located near the Training Center Meshchersky was commissioned in August 2017. 3

Minin and Pozharsky Square is the center of attraction for city residents and tourists. It is the site of the city s main landmark, the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, and the beginning of main pedestrian area, Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street. 2018 FIFA WORLD CUP AMBASSADORS FOR NIZHNY NOVGOROD Dmitry Cheryshev Dmitry Cheryshev started playing football with FC Khimik Dzerzhinsk in 1987. He moved to FC Lokomotiv Nizhny Novgorod in 1990 and played for FC Dynamo Moscow from 1992 to 1995, playing over 100 matches and scoring 37 goals. In 1996 he went to Spain, where he signed a five-year contract with Sporting de Gijón. Cheryshev began his career as a coach in 2003, training Spanish teams Real and Sevilla and Zenit St. Petersburg. Denis Cheryshev Denis Cheryshev started playing football in 1996 at the youth academy of Sporting de Gijón, where his father played. In 2002 Denis transferred to the Real Madrid Academy. Moving from one stage to another, Denis played for the first time for Real Madrid s main team on November 27, 2012 in the Round of 16 finals of the Spanish Cup vs Alcoyano. Denis Cheryshev is the first Russian player in the history of Real Madrid. At present, he plays for Villarreal. The midfielder is on the Russian national team. Dmitry and Denis Cheryshev are the first and so far only father and son to play for the Russian national team. Dmitry Bulykin A striker who won football fame in the 2000s and 2010s, Dmitry Bulykin played for Lokomotiv Moscow and Dynamo Moscow, Bayer Leverkusen (Germany), R.S.C. Anderlecht (Belgium), ADO Den Haag, AFC Ajax and FC Twente (Netherlands). He was a champion in the Netherlands in the 2011/2012 season and was number two on the list of the best scorers in the Eredivisie league with 21 goals in the 2010/11 season when he played for ADO Den Haag. Dmitry Bulykin played 17 matches and scored seven goals on the Russian national team. Sergei and Vladimir Kristovsky Brothers Sergei and Vladimir Kristovsky founded a very popular Russian pop-group Uma2rman in 2003. It s named after a very well-known Hollywood star actress Uma Thurman. The group was awarded several times with various Russian Music awards. For example, in 2004 they got The best Debut prize.
2018 FIFA WORLD CUP AMBASSADORS FOR NIZHNY NOVGOROD Darya Shkurikhina Darya won the gold medal in the group event in Rhythmic gymnastics at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. She also won gold at the 2007 World Championships in Greece and 2006 and 2008 European championships. Pavel Zanozin TV commentator and host of the Channel One TV network, Pavel Zanozin was born in Nizhny Novgorod and began his career at the local Volga TV Channel.

FAST FACTS ABOUT NIZHNY NOVGOROD Built in 1500-1518, the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin has never been captured by enemies. Its walls are 3.5-5 meters thick and 22 meters tall. The residents often call their city the Russian Hollywood. More than 150 movies were shot here. The first passenger tram in Russia was launched here in 1896.
MUST-SEE PLACES Nizhny Novgorod cableway It takes 12 minutes to travel from Nizhny Novgorod to the residential suburb Bor in a cable car suspended 82 meters over the Volga. The distance between the cableway towers is 861 meters, the largest free-hanging distance in Europe. Apart from being a means of transportation, the Nizhny Novgorod cableway is a major tourist attraction. Bolshaya Pokrovskaya Street Nizhny Novgorod s main thoroughfare, which is now a 2-km long pedestrian street, was named after the nearby Intercession (Pokrovsky) Cathedral. Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin The city s main landmark, the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin has grown from a small fortress in the early 16th century to a city that could protect its population from Tatar raids. The Kremlin s 2-km wall has 13 towers with a height difference of 80 meters. The unique project is based on Da Vinci s ideas. Legend has it that the famous Ivan the Terrible Library was hidden somewhere in the basement of the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. This Kremlin has never been conquered by Russia s enemies. The Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin is on the list of top 25 tourist sights in Russia. Chkalov Stairs The construction of this huge staircase began in 1943 after the Soviet Army won the Battle of Stalingrad. The staircase is named after Valery Chkalov, a famous test pilot who was born in the Nizhny Novgorod Region and made the world s first non-stop flight from Moscow to Vancouver via the North Pole in 1937.
TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE Nizhny Novgorod has renovated the main avenue leading from Strigino Airport to the city center. Stryzh speed trains cover the distance between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod in three and a half hours. The roads and transport infrastructure around the stadium will also be improved. There will be a new pedestrian street, which will significantly facilitate access to the stadium on match days. This work is currently in its final stages. A new subway station, Strelka, will open next to the stadium shortly, which will make getting to the stadium much easier for fans. Strigino is an international airport located 18 km from the city center, which can be reached by fixed route taxi, bus or car. The airport s new terminal, built for 2018 FIFA World Cup, opened in 2016. This has increased the airport s capacity to 1.5 million passengers a year. Over 966,000 passengers used the airport in 2017.
HOTELS Four hotels have been commissioned in the build-up to the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which have attracted respected hotel businesses to the city, including Sheraton, as well as Courtyard by Marriott and Hampton by Hilton. Overall, hotel capacity in the city has increased by over 1,000 rooms as part of preparations for the football games.
