Williamson Stewards - I. Brown, R. McCrae, T. Fraser Clerk of Scales - C. Fedrick Judge - P. Chilton, C. Dunn Veterinarian - C. Johnson Swab attendants - K. Warwick, A. Challen Bookmakers Supervisor - W. Flynn Starter - M. Henderson Stewards Secretary - P. Carey GENERAL As B. El-Issa and I. Coombes were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the Stewards' Summary Sheet. Race 1: Bassett Barks Pty Ltd QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate - 1200m Trainer David Murphy was fined $100 for failing to produce the Document of Description for STARLET WARRIOR. STARLET WARRIOR will be barred from racing until such document is produced to stewards. ENOUGH (J. Byrne) was slow to begin and had to be ridden vigorously in the early stages to take up a position. WULFWIN (G. Killen) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, losing significant ground. M. Cahill reported that ORABELLE had a tendency to race greenly for the majority of the race and as a result had difficulty securing clear running between the 400m and 200m. Jockey Cahill was of the view that ORABELLE resented racing inside other horses but was able to secure clear running over the final 200m and found the line well. He was also of the view that ORABELLE would perform better over further distances and indicated that connections would consider adding blinkers to the filly. Trainer C. Williamson was advised that a warning would be placed on WULFIN, which raced uncompetitively. He indicated that it would be his intention to trial WULFIN prior to its next race start.
A post race veterinary examination of ENOUGH revealed the horse to have bled from one nostril. Connections were advised that ENOUGH must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop before stewards prior to racing again. Race 2: Caloundra Sub Branch RSL & Services Club Maiden Plate - 1200m TAKE NO NOTICE (G. Goold) jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. OUR BOY (K. Wharton) was slow to begin. T. Brooker, rider of RIPPER NIPPER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 1000m she allowed her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of GAYLEN (J. Byrne), causing that horse to be taken in and steadied, resulting in AMARANTA (M. Cahill) being tightened for room on to the hind quarters of JUST TAKE IT (S. Payne) and having to be steadied and lose its rightful position. Miss Brooker's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 21 February and up to and including 5 March 2014. TAKE NO NOTICE raced wide from the 700m. Race 3: Battery Wise Sunshine Coast Class 3 Plate - 1200m BRUNNER (G. Killen) was tightened for room at the start between COUNTRY COMMAND (L. Tarrant) and HOLEY GADOLEY (S. Fawke), which shifted out abruptly. Near the 800m when the pace slackened, HOLEY GADOLEY improved onto the heels of COUNTRY COMMAND before shifting out, forcing ROCK ROYALTY (M. Cahill) wider on the track for a short distance. D. Browne was afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance and handling of TIGER JET. D. Browne stated that over longer distances the gelding is able to take up a more forward position, however in today's event in the early stages he was caught wide and elected, rather than ride vigorously to gain a forward position, to steady and obtain a position closer to the fence. Officials identified after the race that ROCK ROYALTY had raced with ear plugs which is gear not approved under the National Gear Register. After taking evidence from trainer L. Birchley and stablehand N. Balderson it was established that ROCK ROYALTY is fitted with ear plugs for travelling and it is the responsibility of Mr Balderson to remove these ear plugs when arriving on course, a responsibility which he failed to fulfil. Mr Birchley subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR140B in that he presented ROCK ROYALTY to race with unapproved gear and was fined the sum of $300. Race 4: OVR Motel & Resort Class 1 H'cap - 1000m After arriving at the barriers, RAINBOW DANE underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently found to be lame in both forelegs and was declared a late scratching at 2.16 pm. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on RAINBOW DANE were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to bets placed prior to 2.16 pm.
12 cents in the dollar for the Win #7 10 cents in the dollar for place of winner #7 18 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4 18 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #1 SP bets are not subject to deductions Trainer A. St Vincent will be advised that a veterinary clearance will be required for RAINBOW DANE prior to its next race start. The start was delayed when DAISYODEE arrived behind the barriers without both front plates. DAISYODEE was unable to be replated and declared a late scratching at 2.18 pm. All monies invested on DAISYODEE were ordered to be refunded, and the following deductions applicable to bets placed between 2.16 pm and 2.18 pm. 7 cents in the dollar for the Win #7 6 cents in the dollar for place of winner #7 11 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4 12 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #1 SP bets are not subject to deductions SHE'S A DANICA (T. Harrison) was fractious in the barriers and began awkwardly, losing ground. CASH IN (D. Missen) was slow to begin. K. Matheson, rider of NOT A SINGLEMOMENT, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 700m he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of IRRESTIBLE ME (P. Schmidt), forcing that horse in and tightening the running of both CASH IN and SHE'S A DANICA, resulting in SHE'S A DANICA being checked when tightened for room. K. Matheson was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 6 meetings, to commence at midnight, 22 February and to expire at midnight, 5 March. Race 5: David Reid Homes Maiden H'cap - 1600m Stewards accepted the explanation for the dual engagement of A. Butler on ROSE OF CHAPARRAL and BONDI BLISS. E. Kehoe was the replacement rider for BONDI BLISS. Correct weight was delayed to allow M. Hellyer, rider of the 2nd placegetter, DARK MATTER, to view the stewards' patrol video to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge a protest against the winner, SEONIA. After viewing all video angles, jockey Hellyer declined to lodge a protest. Stewards also reviewed the patrol footage to determine if there were grounds to lodge an objection on behalf the 3rd plagegetter, DANEHILL NATIVE (R. McMahon) against either 1st placegetter SEONIA or 2nd placegetter DARK MATTER. After viewing the patrol footage, stewards were of the view that given the winner SEONIA shift out had caused the interference suffered to DANEHILL NATIVE, and given the vicinity of the interference to the finish line and overall margins, stewards were not of the opinion they should proceed with an objection and subsequently correct weight was semaphored on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. JETEYE WARRIOR raced without a Norton bit, which was part of that horse's gear. Trainer D. Murphy was subsequently fined the sum of $100.
DARK MATTER (M. Hellyer) was tightened for room at the start between KWABOY (T. Harrison) and BONDI BLISS (E. Kehoe), both of which shifted ground. OLLIE OOBA (A. Spinks) was slow to begin. SKIPPER'S RULE (D. Browne) raced wide in the early stages before assuming the position outside the lead near the 800m. Near the 500m, LUSHY (J. Byrne) had to be steadied from the heels of the weakening ROSE OF CHAPARRAL (A. Butler). R. Wiggins, rider of SEONIA, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift out under significant pressure over the concluding stages, which resulted in DANEHILL NATIVE being checked when tightened onto the hind quarters of DARK MATTER. R. Wiggins was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 22 February and to expire at midnight, 6 March. LUSHY (J. Byrne) was inconvenienced near the 200m when GENERIS HEART (G. Goold) shifted out under pressure. DANEHILL NATIVE (R. McMahon) and ROSE OF CHAPARRAL (A. Butler) raced wide throughout. Trainer K. Purdy advised that in lieu of today's poor performance from BONDI BLISS it would now be sent for an immediate spell. Stewards questioned trainer L. Treloar and apprentice B. Stower regarding the tactics adopted on FLIGHT TO ARCTIC. Of concern to stewards was that FLIGHT TO ARCTIC led in today's event which was in contrast to its established racing pattern. Apprentice Stower indicated as the horse has previously not shown early speed in its races Mr Treloar had instructed her to attempt to ride positively with a view to obtaining a midfield position with cover. Mr Treloar confirmed these instructions and pre-race was of the view that the horse would not be able to show sufficient speed to be more forward than midfield. Apprentice Stower explained that her intentions changed when FLIGHT TO ARCTIC won the start and in the early stages was unable to obtain cover, she therefore allowed the horse to stride forward approaching the 1300m. Stewards accepted that it had not been Mr Treloar's intention to race in such a prominent position, however nevertheless drew his attention to his obligations under AR135A to notify stewards of his instructions as in the circumstances these instructions may have resulted in the horse taking up a more forward position. KWABOY (T. Harrison) bled from both nostrils during the event. Trainer T. Bourke was advised that KWABOY will be barred from racing for a period of 3 months. Mr Bourke advised that KWABOY will be retired from racing. Race 6: Yalumba Wines Class 4 H'cap - 1400m SLICK LAGO (F. Jervis) stood flatfooted at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer T. Crane was advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily in an official trial prior to its next race start. Leaving the 200m, S. Payne, rider of CALL ME RUSTY, was obliged to stop riding and shift out to secure clear running when FREGEZEICHEN (G. Goold) shifted in under pressure.
A post race veterinary examination of INUDBIOUS failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 7: Wimmers Premium Softdrinks Class 1 H'cap - 1400 MISS MARBURG, which dislodged rider R. Ride during its preliminary, was declared a late scratching at 4 pm when Miss Ride was ruled unfit to take her mount. All monies invested on MISS MARBURG were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 4 pm. 7 cents in the dollar for the Win #1 8 cents in the dollar for place of winner #1 6 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2 12 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #8 SP bets are not subject to deductions SEIZE THE FIRE was examined by the veterinary surgeon at the request of the rider and was cleared to start. MOCK ME NOT (D. Browne) was slow to begin. WRITTENINTHERAIN (R. Payne) raced wide throughout. DIAMONEEZE (A. Allen) hung out throughout the race, and rounding the home turn shifted back in, inconveniencing IRISH TOFFEE (J. Johnson), which attempted to secure clear running to the inside of that runner. Then over the concluding stages, DIAMONEEZE again shifted out under pressure, inconveniencing MOCK ME NOT (D. Browne). Trainer B. Brown indicated he would remove the tongue control bit, which was a gear change for today's event in view of today's performance. Stewards advised Mr Brown that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of DIAMONEEZE. A post race veterinary examination of STAR DRAGON revealed signs of heat stress. Race 8: BOQ Chancellor Park & Mooloolaba Class 2 H'cap - 1600m Connections advised that RIGHT VINTAGE would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. RIGHT VINTAGE subsequently raced just worse than midfield after receiving minor interference at the start. NORTHERN WARRIOR (S. Fawke) was slow to begin. Both I'M A GENEE (M. Carson) and NORTHERN WARRIOR raced 3 wide from the 800m. RIGHT VINTAGE (M. Hellyer), which jumped away awkwardly, was tightened for room shortly after the start between MORALS (T. Harrison) and ISAVENGER (B. Stower), which shifted out. ARAWAK (E. Wilkinson) raced wide in the early stages. Stewards sought an explanation from J. Johnson regarding the disappointing performance of MORE DUST. She stated that the poor performance could be attributed to being forced to race in the lead as she rode forward after being caught wide in the early stages. Miss Johnson was of the opinion that MORE DUST does not race well when racing in the lead however she had no other option when caught wide. Trainer Mr B. Guy agreed with Miss Johnson's comments and gave an
undertaking to report to stewards any abnormality that comes to light which may have had a bearing on the performance. A post race veterinary examination of MORE DUST failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. STEWARDS RACE DAY SUMMARY Summary of action concerning licensees Suspensions Race 2.
