As one of the top 10 universities for sporting achievement in the UK, we have a dedicated team of coaches and staff to help you train, compete and reach your full potential. By completing your application for the Vice-Chancellor s Award you will automatically be considered for the Performance Squad too. For more details, deadlines and how to apply, please visit: bristol.ac.uk/sport/performance/scholarships Receiving a Vice Chancellor s Scholarship was a massive honour and it gave me access to a whole range of services which allowed me to maintain an intensive training regime whilst continuing my studies. It was also a significant psychological boost to receive such a prestigious award. When I was selected for the London 2012 Olympics, the University were fantastic in their support and helped to structure my academic programme to allow me to complete my law degree whilst training for the Games. P E R F O R M A N C E squad Free Active Plus membership worth 225 per annum Specialist strength & conditioning coaching/facilities Personal mentor for academic and sport Personalised athlete development plan Performance Squad benefits Annual Squad residential and events throughout the year Individual and personalised nutritional and sports psychology services Holistic support from Performance staff throughout the year The Squad provides unparalleled support for elite athletes tackling the challenge of combining academic studies with high performance sport. The highly dedicated and knowledgeable staff have provided me with unwavering support, enablling me to achieve my goals on and off the court. It s not an understatement to say that one of the main factors in my decision to stay on at Bristol for postgraduate study was my experience in the squad. I cannot wait to return to work with this unique group of staff and athletes as I look to qualify for the Paralympic Games in Tokyo in 2020. DAN BETHELL STUDYING INTERNATIONAL LAW PERFORMANCE SQUAD - BADMINTON

For me the squad is a family, a place for like-minded individuals that are all experiencing the unusual and exciting world of high performance sport. I get all the support I need from professional strength and conditioning coaching, nutrition advice, any-time sports psychology and a wonderful mentor. However, I feel like I have people that support me in all aspects of my life at University, not just sport. My future goals include playing for the University and winning BUCS next year, I would also like to play for Team GB in the Commonwealth Games. P E R F O R M A N C E COACHES Bristol Lacrosse has overcome and challenged every expectation I had of joining a university lacrosse team, having played at an international standard. I have received coaching from the two best coaches in the south of England. This has allowed me to continue training at a rapid rate, has been crucial to my progression into the England Development Squad and will hopefully enable me to reach my dream of representing the men s England squad. Lacrosse is such a great sport to pick up from scratch at the University of Bristol, especially with such dedicated, skilful and friendly coaching. They are passionate, invested and become your friends and support. Exemplifying the Lacrosse family feeling that I love so much. FREDDIE ATKINS STUDYING MEDICINE PERFORMANCE SQUAD - LACROSSE

The coaching philosophy at UBWRFC is very much about enjoyment and development. Whatever level of Rugby the players come from or aspire to, we offer a positive and supportive environment that allows everyone the best opportunity to fulfil their potential. For the Performance players our game based approach to coaching really challenges them to constantly improve. We have developed important partnerships to provide external playing opportunities with Bristol Ladies, offering Performance members the opportunity to be part of the new Super League. This support has seen us develop into one of the top Performance Clubs at the University, climbing from the lowest level of Women s BUCS Rugby to the Premiership. Despite having never played rugby before coming to University, the Women s Rugby Club welcomed me with open arms, and I felt taken seriously as a player from the start. There is opportunity within the club to train hard and progress from beginner to first team player competing in the Premiership. I am incredibly proud to be club captain within such a warm and supportive community, and would really recommend getting involved with a university sport to anyone.
