EASTERN CAROLINA SHOWMANSHIP CIRCUIT This program was started in 1992 and has been very successful! This year the circuit will again award trophy belt buckles to top showman in each age division in both lamb and heifer showmanship based on a cumulative point system. Embroidered jackets will be given to the reserve champions in each age division. Additional awards will be provided to participants placing third (3 rd ) through fifth (5 th ) in each age division. Tee shirts will be given to all youngsters that complete a minimum of four (4) sanctioned events in the circuit. 2009 marks the 9th year that Cargill Nutrena will be a corporate sponsor awarding additional money for scholarships and awards. In 2009 the Senior Lamb & Senior Heifer division winners will be awarded a $500 scholarship. *Eligibility: By simply competing in 4 of the 9 livestock showmanship events that make up the circuit, participants will automatically become eligible for the awards. Age: Age divisions are based on the exhibitor's age as of January 1, 2009. Heifer Jr. Division: 9-11 years of age Intermediate Division: 12-14 years of age Senior Division: 15-18 years of age Lamb Novice: 8 and under Junior: 9-13 years of age Senior: 14-18 years of age A participant may elect to move up to the next age division (example: Joe is 13 but would like to show as a Senior). To move up into an older age group, the participant must notify Walter Earle in writing before August 15, 2009, (including circuit champions). Once a participant is placed into an older age division, he or she must show in that division at all the 2009 circuit shows that he or she attends (no exceptions). Participant may only move up one age division (i.e. Novice Lamb cannot show with Senior Lamb). Scoring System: The scoring system is based on an accumulation of points. Points in each age division will be as follows: a. Showpersons in each age division will receive points as follows: 1 st - 15 points 2 nd - 13 points 3 rd - 11 points 4 th - 9 points 5 th - 7 points 6 Points will be given to any child that makes finals in a show that has enough entries to warrant go-rounds. All others - 5 points b. Participation in 4 shows qualifies showman for tee-shirt. c. An individual's top 6 scores will count toward year-end awards. Scholarship: The Circuit Scholarship for winners in the Senior Division of lambs and heifers will be given on a one (1) time basis.

Tie Breakers: In the event that two participants are tied: 1.. Head to Head competition will be considered in breaking the tie. 2. All the dropped scores will be added. 3. Additional belt buckles will be given and the scholarship money will be divided between both winners. If a first time winner, both participants will be eligible for the full scholarship again the next year. General Rules: A participant can win the buckle once in each age division. As of 2009, a participant is eligible to win the buckle in the Senior Division an unlimited number of times. Remember each species (lambs and heifers) is considered a separate division (i.e. participant could win Jr. Heifer buckle in 2005 and win Jr. Lamb buckle in 2006 or both in the same year). Reserve Champion awards may be won more than once in each age division with no restrictions. Sanctioned shows held on Sunday through Thursday must have showmanship competition first and no penalty shall be given to participants that do not participate in the animal judging (leave early). If a Circuit participant or any member of their immediate family is barred from competition at any of the sanctioned events, for any reason, that participant shall be ineligible for any and all Circuit awards in the current year. ****If questions arise regarding cancellations due to inclement weather (i.e. huricanes), please contact your local county Extension office.
