1 Hennepin County 4-H Horse Show Saturday, July 28 th 2018, 9:30 a.m. Lynn Ellen St Martin, Judge Silver Buckle Ring, Plymouth 4-H County Horse Show Registration Form The Hennepin County 4-H Horse Show features: Western Pleasure includes showmanship at halter in western appointments, pleasure and horsemanship English Pleasure includes showmanship at halter shown in English appointments, pleasure and equitation Games include barrels, keyhole, pole weaving and jumping figure eight Egg and Spoon and Trail classes are offered, but not points will be awarded for participating. Checks are payable to: Hennepin County 4-H Federation Instructions Check classes on the attached form that you wish to enter. You may withdraw/scratch classes on the day of the show, but you may not add classes. Classes will be divided by grade groups, as indicated by the participant on the registration form. Only riders who meet the county 1

2 and state show eligibility requirements will qualify to be awarded state show trips. Please sign up to volunteer by contacting Sherry Schutt at All Hennepin County 4-H Horse Project members may register to ride at the show. All registrations, including members who are leasing a horse, must have registered as a horse project member, and have and ID and lease agreement (if leasing) submitted to Hennepin County 4-H by May 15 th in order to be eligible to participate in the State 4-H Horse Show. Registrations and ID s received after May 15 th will be able to participate in the county show but will not qualify for the state show. While younger people can participate in the Hennepin County Horse Show, only youth who have completed grade 6 and up are eligible for the State 4-H Horse Show. Please review and follow the attached Hennepin County 4-H Horse Show Rules. 2

If registration numbers require, it will be at the discretion of the Project Development Committee to divide pleasure classes prior to the show date. 4

5 Registration Rules 1. You must register in advance to participate. The registration deadline is Monday, July 9. Registrations are final. The only exception to this is if there is a need to withdraw/scratch or use a back-up horse. Each horse can only be used once for each class. 2. There will be a registration fee of $35.00 per rider to cover the costs of running the show. Checks are payable to the Hennepin County 4-H Federation. 3. Each family is asked to commit to volunteering during the show. Families can sign up by contacting Sherry Schutt at sschutt100@yahoo.com. Participation Criteria Classes 1. You must be a Hennepin County 4-H active member registered in the Horse Project by May 15, The horse being shown must be registered with the Hennepin County 4-H Extension office by the May 15 th deadline to be eligible for a State Horse Show Trip. If member registers and/or ID s a horse between May 16 th and July 9, the rider may participate in the county show but will not be eligible for the state horse show. 1. County Show classes are the same as the State 4-H Horse Show Classes. 2. Additional classes not counted toward earning State 4-H Horse Show trips: Show Rules a) Egg and Spoon b) Trail c) Walk/Trot d) Honor Ride 1. County 4-H Horse Show Rules are the same as the State Fair Horse Show Rules. They are described in the MN Horse Program Rule Book (available at available at Please note that the rules were recently revisited. Judging 1. The judge will be selected by the Horse PDC from the current list of 4-H approved judges. 2. In each class, each participant will be placed into a blue, red or white group based on the Danish system for awards used by 4-H. Only the blue group will earn points to be considered for State Show trips. See the MN Horse Program rule book at 3. In Games classes, a five-second penalty for each fault will be added to the competitor s time. 5

6 Points 4. Ribbons (first-sixth place) are awarded in all classes as well as the Egg and Spoon and Trail Classes. Cloverbud leadline will all receive participation ribbons. 1. Points are given for pleasure and games classes that are offered at the State 4-H Horse Show. As they are not in the State Horse Show, no points are awarded for Egg and Spoon and Walk/Trot. Trail is not counted towards a State Show trip. 2. Points for each class will be awarded as follows: a. First place receives 6 points b. Second place receives 5 points c. Third place receives 4 points d. Fourth place receives 3 points e. Fifth place receives 2 points f. Sixth place receives 1 point g. Other participants receive no points 3. To earn points at the County Show a. The participant must have completed sixth grade. b. The participant must be placed in the (Danish System) blue group for that class. c. The class must be offered at the State 4-H Horse Show (excluding trail). d. Note: If there is an ineligible rider who places, that rider s point would go unassigned (examples of ineligible riders: late ID without exemption, late enrollment without exemption). Criteria for State 4-H Horse Show Trips 1. The criteria for the number of State Show trips each county receives is determined by the State 4-H Horse Show Committee; trip awards will be confirmed in July. Members of the Hennepin County Horse Project Development Committee will verify each rider s eligibility based on the attached rules and certifying that the rider meets the minimum requirements for the Minnesota 4-H State Horse Show. 2. To be eligible for a State 4-H Horse Show Trip, the member must: a. Meet the criteria as outlined in the State 4-H Horse Show Rules b. Be an active Hennepin County 4-H member starting before or on May 15 th, State 4-H Horse Show trips are awarded to eligible top point recipients in the qualifying pleasure or game classes (for training trip awards, please see #9 below). Each participant s point total is determined by combining the points earned in each riding discipline (i.e. games or pleasure). Pleasure includes: Halter Showmanship (English or Western appointments), English Pleasure, English Equitation, Western Pleasure and 6

7 Western Horsemanship. Games include: Jumping Figure 8, Barrels, Pole Weaving and Keyhole. As each trip is accepted, the next highest point recipient in that discipline is considered for the next available trip. 4. The State 4-H Horse Show trips will be divided evenly among the top point recipients in Pleasure and Games. For example, if the county was awarded four trips, two would go to pleasure and two to games. If the number of trips is odd, the additional State 4-H Horse Show trip will be awarded to the riding discipline with the highest number of trip preferences indicated on the registration form. 5. If a member earns a trip in both disciplines (games and pleasure), they will be assigned the trip based on the discipline preference specified on the registration form. 6. In the case of a tie, the tie breaker is determined as follows: a. The person with the most first places wins the trip b. The person with the most second places wins the trip c. The person with the most third places wins a trip d. Draws out of a hat 7. You may compete only in the classes at the State 4-H Horse Show for which you received a blue group placing (under the Danish system). 8. Three volunteers, (age 16 or older) or county staff people who does not have family members participating in the horse show will verify the point counts. 9. Horse Training state show trips will be awarded by the County Show judge. The judge will select from among the first place winners at each step. 10. State 4-H Horse Show trip winners must accept their trip within 4 days after the trip has been offered. Registration and paperwork for the State 4-H Horse Show is due into the County extension Office no later than Wednesday, August 1, If a State 4-H Horse Show trip winner is unable to make the trip, they must notify the County Extension office immediately so an alternate (based on the next highest points) may be notified. State 4-H Horse Show rules allow a substitute to register up to ten days prior to the show. 12. State Horse Show Trail Class participation will be awarded to the top two blue group participants among those awarded pleasure or game state trips. 13. If there is any objection to point allocation or trip awards, the objection must be made to Katherine Nguyen at nguy1518@umn.edu by Monday, July 30th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. CST. The extension office will then guide the appeals process. County Awards Ribbons (first sixth place) are given in all classes, including Egg and Spoon and Trail Classes. Cloverbud Leadline will receive participation awards. 7
