NEWSLETTER November 2013 Junior development We had our first junior development for the season. Thank you to Geoff Thomson, John Baumgurtel, and Chris Stevens for the use of their boats. We had a great group of kids working together to teach each other a few tricks. From knee boarding, refreshing skills learnt at ski school and ski racing practice. Junior Development afternoons are on the calendar, turn up with your boat and kids and club members will be there to help each other out. We will have the clubs ski gear available (kneeboards, wakeboards, double skis all sizes, race gear and slalom and trick skis). This is just a relaxed afternoon to help the kids, with anything from water confidence right up to skiing and to give mums and dads a few pointers. We will have a few of these over summer if you happen to unable to come to some of them. Great effort Joe Sherry New Roof With much thanks to Steeline and all the volunteer workers we have a new roof. The guys started at 7am and worked hard to get the roof on in a few short hours. Many of the volunteers were not even ski club members. This is very much appreciated; please make a point to thank these guys if you see them around. While the roof was going on we had some helpful hard workers cleaning out of some storage rooms and spreading some loam. Thanks to Shane Ryan for using his handy animal skills to evacuate a resident possum (happily relocated to a gum tree). Page 2
New Beach Area at club You will notice a new beach are at the club and more lawn. This will be a great area, making this end of the club more usable. A big thanks to Jason and his crew at GBM for helping us out with this project. Christmas Party: Don t forget our Christmas party 30 th November save the date, should be a great fun family night we are hoping you can all make it. This is a fantastic time to socialize with other club members. There will be a jumping castle for the kids and we look forward to a visit from SANTA. New Club Slalom Course Putting of the slalom course will now be delayed until after Christmas. We apologies for this but with changes to Aquatic licenses, approvals takes 6-8weeks and the course cannot be in for the busy holiday period. Our Volunteer members will be working hard to get this ready for after the January long weekend. Level One Judges Course A level one Judges course will be held at Cowra on the 8 th of December (time to be advised. This is a great opportunity for parent of the kids getting into or already in tournament to participate. No prior knowledge is necessary if you are interested please contact Chris Veal on 0427233571 cveal@bigpond.net.au Berri ski race results Some great results for our ski race club members Melbourne cub weekend at the Berri 90, First place for Sean Stevens in under 16 expert and F2 and a first in the junior Mayhem (Dash) Ashleigh Wakefield and Lachlan Op De Coul got first place in under 13 boy s expert and under 13s social, with Chris Wakefield observing. Keep an eye on these two they are becoming strong skiers. First place to Ryan Thomson in under 16 social and a third in under 16 expert with dad Geoff Thomson observing. Ryan is our newest club member to ski racing. Damien Mathew observing for Hellrazor placed first in the Mayhem but they were beaten by Blazen in superclass on Sunday coming in second. Berri is the first of the king of the Murray series. Jack Stevens placed a third in under 19 boys expert Jake Hinterholzl placed 3 rd in F2 and second in MOC social one of our Robinvale boys. Well done to all our other competitors who skied, drove and observed. Page 4
Membership Renewals: You will now receive your membership renewal for the 2013/2014 season by email (if supplied) if not it will be sent out in the post. If possible we would like all members to supply an email address so we can keep you more up to date on what is going on in the club. This will also save us time and money which we can, in turn put back into the club. Membership renewals are due by 30 th November 2013 Treasurers request All future payments must be authorised and a receipt provided preferably with direct debit details. If you have any queries contact Mark Johnson our new Treasurer on the contacts below. Bar re-opening The bar will be opening again for after work drinks 5.30pm every second Friday. Dates are on the calendar. If anyone want to help out give Kim a ring need some volunteers with their RSA s. Can anyone remember this? Maybe this could be a new thing to teach at junior development!
