Please send your nominations to safetybeachsailing@gmail.com Calling all Sabre Sailors Sunday 26th April at 9:30am Thanks to all the Sabres for making last Sunday such a great day. We had 14 Sabres in the yard for Bill & Ricks training which was a fantastic turn out. We even had a visitor from Somers Yacht Club who had see the training advertised on our website. Welcome Wendy! I think we can safely say the session was a success and we all walked away having learnt a number of things. We just need to put them all into practice now!! There was mention of another session on the final day of sailing. Rick is the Race Officer on the 26th and has offered to run more training that morning if there is interest. If you are interested in having a final Sabre session for the season let me know and I will put the date in the diary. Happy sailing! - Louise View from the back of the race Looking back at Sunday s OTB Race 2015/16 Juniors Program Meeting Sunday 26th April at 11am End of Season Blast for the Juniors and Parents meeting 26th April All Junior sailors and parents are encouraged to come down to the club for a meeting to discuss options for the Junior program next season. The meeting will be held at 11am after which the Juniors can take a ride on a Tasar, Taipan or B14 for a quick blast before the afternoon racing! The OTB races have become very strong this season with a large fleet of Cats & the Sabres, who out striped everyone with 15 boats on the water. However some of the divisions have taken early holidays leaving Greg & James to represent Tasers & the award winning James longing for competition against his Laser & of cause the Sharpies are used of doing it on their own. The first race was very tricky with low winds & a lot of shifts. I couldn t beleive it when Gary made up a whole leg to overtake Norm & I between the wing mark & the windward mark, it was like he came out of nowhere! The second race had a little more wind & the race was closer than ever with most of the Sabres bunched up in the middle. It was a great competition! Watch out Bill we re all coming to get you! - Katrina, 705 Eazy Tiger
Last year 120 people enrolled for the ORCV s Beyond the Vat (BTB) program. Beyond the Bay is an extended version of the earlier, Latitude Program for bay sailors, skippers and crews, design to encourage you to stick your nose out into Bass Strait and beyond. ORCV Roadshow Visit to SBSC ON Sunday 19th APRIL Two members of the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria will be along to give us a presentation on the ORCV. Robert Bradley Skipper of Escapade) and the current holder of the Osaka Cup Matt Fahey Long-time Ocean racing crew member. Robert and Matt will explain where the ORCV fits in to the Victorian sailing scene and how they can help you Live the Dream. Robert, as an avowed cruiser, will happily explain how he combines leisurely cruising with ocean racing. Matt will provide a slightly different perspective for those who may not have their own boat to take into Bass Strait but would like to be part of the crew on some sailing Beyond the Bay. The Ocean Racing Club of Victoria has been around for over 60 years and in that time they have become one of the leading organisers of sailing events, races, rallies and training programs for those sailors who wish to proceed beyond the confines of Port Phillip. As a volunteer organisation they are made up of some of the most experienced sailors from all the clubs on Port Phillip and some from as far afield as Scotland. With no clubhouse or facilities of their own, the club exists only to promote, organise and support sailing activities beyond the enclosed waters of Port Phillip. The ORCV has been running the Latitude/BTB program for over 10 years now. Here s what some of last year s BTB graduates had to say: Really good, the overnight challenge was excellent Excellent, great program Really positive, especially for my wife Whether you be skipper or crew, race or cruise come along on Sunday morning and hear how you could be venturing out into Bass Strait next summer full of new found skills and the confidence that brings.
