OTB News 19th January 2017 Foundation Series The series concluded on Sunday after a hectic 7 races in 8 days with a 50 th celebration in there too! Congratulations to Misha and Pat who completed every race and were on even points going into the last race; Misha just edged out Pat on Yardstick and Pat just edged out Misha on Handicap. Orlando came 3 rd just one point ahead of Joseph who came all the way from Carnac FR for the famous series! Fiona took out Div 2 on YS and a big congratulations to Hamish McColl who won on HC! You only get to spend your handicap once Hamish so good to see you made it count. It looks like the Waimukabout team have put the frighteners on the rest of the Tasar fleet and had to join the Div 5 course for some competition in some races, they would have won Div 5 too! The Sharpie scored 5 bullets plus duty points to easily take out Div 5 and some may say that things could have been closer had other certain boats not undertaken a midrace hull inspection whilst leading.twice! It was generally close racing in Div 5 with Mark, Rob and the Lazzar Hobie all scoring a HC win in one or more races. Nick was the only Div 6 boat to race, hope we get more fast cats for this weekend! Peninsula Challenge this Sunday! That s right, the Mount Martha Armada will be appearing on the horizon sometime before the MIDDAY BRIEFING to get ready for the 1pm START. We will be racing the trapezoid course and the two races will also count for club championship points. Every boat who finishes a race scores a point for our club so we need a big turnout to get back the cup. The top nine boats in each division score extra points so we need a big turnout for each division! There will be no Junior sailing as such (feel free to have a warm-up sail) but we will have a Junior Theory/Briefing session at 11am to go over some race strategies. Ewan (Bluey)

50 th Birthday Celebration Dear members, As not all members were able to make Saturday nights 50th Birthday Celebration of the Safety Beach Sailing Club, I d like to personally thank the committee who helped organise, from feedback received, a fantastic night with 230 people in attendance. I have been the recipient of personal thanks, but really it was committee members like Deirdre Snooks, Tanina Osbourne, David Snooks, Lisa Gray and Peter Bulka who deserve sincere thanks for their efforts. Tanina and her band smashed it out of the ballpark with song selection and delivery, with a passion for the club and members, that helped add another chapter to the already written history of the club. Sincere thanks also to the ever reliable Karyl Kaye for her exceptional birthday cake, who on reading the history of the club, has been making the club cake for something in the order of 15-20 years. Jan Woods again stepped up when asked and ensured the raffle was well patronised by selling tickets on entry to the club and later Grace Lazzar and Granine Snooks for extracting as much as they could out of the members later on in the evening. Thanks also to Rick Potter for being our MC on the night and ensuring everyone was kept in line and adding anecdotes throughout the evening of his time as a foundation year member. Peter Chipperfield s carpentry skills came to the fore when asked to design and construct the 50 year honour board for the club. Thanks Peter from us all for agreeing to make this board, which was unveiled on the night with Andrew Stocks the first member to be honoured with 50 years continuous membership. I was fortunate enough to sail on Friday night with Peter Bulka and was back at the club for dinner afterwards. When you see 180 people in the clubhouse most Friday nights, it s understandable that many keelboat members are reluctant to commit to another night at the club regardless of the occassion, so I guess I want to say a big thank you to all keelboat members for not only supporting the club and our caterer David Snooks week after week, but for also supporting this function given the keelboat history at the club is only relatively recent and in it s early stages of infancy. I have read the history of the club since purchasing the Log Book written by Tom McCullogh already and am embarrassed by the number of times my family get a mention, so this is not the reason I m thanking Tom for 3 years of hard labour in so assiduously collating all the information and having the book ready for sale on the night. It is a cracking read and my congratulations to Tom for not only the finished product but for also having the slide show of the photos available on the night. Finally, the night was not about making money, in fact far from it. It was a chance for the club to give back to the members. Tickets to a night like we put together would normally sell at $80-$100 dollars given the quality of the entertainment and food. Thanks to Snooks catering who sponsored the under 16 kids tickets, ensuring the families got a better deal. Also thank you to David, Deirdre & Snooks Catering for the fabulous meals. There was a wealth of finger food and the tasting stations were delicious. Everyone was expertly catered for and very content by the nights end. Our sponsors whom were canvassed by Tanina Osbourne and Liz Chipperfield were given plenty of mentions on the night. All in all I felt very proud of the club on Saturday night and it was a pleasure to chair the committee. How lucky we were to get such fantastic weather. Andrew Bunghole Taylor, you are only a recent newcomer to the club, however your legend is growing. You Star! Cheers! Mono.
