The sensng end of the dssolved oxygen sensor s shpped wth a protectve red cap that needs to be removed before usng. Addtonally, t s very mportant to nstall a new membrane wth electrolyte soluton onto the sensor after removng the red cap. Prepare the electrolyte soluton accordng to the nstructons on the bottle. After mxng, allow the soluton to st for 1 hour. Ths wll help prevent ar bubbles from later developng under the membrane. Ensure you are usng the correct electrolyte soluton for your sensor. Galvanc sensors utlze electrolyte wth a 4 5

lght blue label on the bottle and Polarographc sensors utlze electrolyte wth a whte label on the bottle. The dssolved oxygen sensor s suppled wth cap membranes specfc to the sensor type ordered (Polarographc or Galvanc). 5913 and 5914 membrane kts are for Galvanc sensors and the 5908 and 5909 membrane kts are for Polarographc sensors. Remove and dscard or save the red protectve cap from the dssolved oxygen sensor by pullng t straght off. Thoroughly rnse the sensor tp wth dstlled or deonzed water. Fll the cap membrane 3 4 full of electrolyte soluton, then tap the cap wth a fnger to release any trapped ar. Be careful not to touch the membrane porton of the cap. Thread the membrane cap onto the sensor, moderately tght. Do not use a tool. It s typcal for some of the electrolyte soluton to spll over. It s best to allow the new cap to reman on the sensor overnght before calbratng. For detaled nstructons on changng a cap membrane, see the Care, Mantenance and Storage secton of ths manual. Extng the System Setup Menu To ext the System Setup menu, press the down arrow key untl the ESC - Ext box s hghlghted, then press enter to return to the Run screen. Fgure 7, page 1 of System Setup menu. DO Local% s enabled. When DO Local% s enabled, DO% values wll be expressed as %L on the Run screen. DO Local% allows for localzed % saturaton measurements, but does not affect the mg/l readngs. When enabled, the DO% calbraton value s always 100% regardless of the alttude or barometrc pressure of the locaton. Ths devates from YSI s tradtonal method of expressng DO% saturaton where the % calbraton value decreases wth a decrease n barometrc pressure,.e. an ncrease n alttude (Appendx A). To determne the % calbraton value when DO Local% s dsabled, dvde the local barometrc pressure pressure n mmhg by 760 and then multply by 100. Example: 750/760 = 0.9868 x 100 = 98.68% calbraton value when DO Local s dsabled. When DO Local% s enabled, the Pro2030 corrects for barometrc pressure on each DO measurement nstead of durng calbraton. 8 9

Example: Instrument #1 wth DO Local% enabled: At 737 mmhg barometrc pressure, roughly 841 ft above sea level, the nstrument would calbrate to 100%. When takng measurements at the same locaton (737 mmhg) n a 20 C fresh water sample that s completely ar-saturated, the nstrument would read: DO %L value = 100% DO mg/l value = 8.81 mg/l (9.09 1 x.9697 2 ) Instrument #2 DO Local% dsabled: At 737 mmhg barometrc pressure, roughly 841 ft above sea level, the nstrument would calbrate to 737/760 x 100% = 997% When takng measurements at the same locaton (737 mmhg) n a 20 C fresh water sample that s completely ar-saturated, the nstrument would read: DO% value = 997% DO mg/l value = 8.81 mg/l (9.09 1 x.9697 2 ) Hence, the mg/l readngs are unaffected by DO Local%. ) Value from oxygen solublty table (Appendx B). ) 737/760 x 100%, correcton for barometrc pressure. Last Dgt Suppresson (LDS) Last Dgt Suppresson (LDS) can be enabled or dsabled by usng the up or down arrow keys to hghlght t and pressng enter LDS ndcates t s enabled.. An X n the box next to LDS rounds the DO value to the nearest tenth;.e. 8.25 mg/l becomes 8.3 mg/l. LDS s automatcally dsabled durng calbratons. Quck DO Calbraton (Quck DO Cal) Quck DO Cal can be enabled or dsabled by usng the up or down arrow keys to hghlght Quck DO Cal and pressng enter. An X n the box next to Quck DO Cal ndcates t s enabled. Audo Audo can be enabled or dsabled by usng the up or down arrow keys to hghlght Audo and pressng enter. When enabled, there wll be an X n the box next to Audo. When Audo s enabled, the Pro2030 wll beep twce to ndcate stablty when Auto Stable s enabled. The nstrument wll also beep when a key s pressed. When Audo s dsabled, the Pro2030 wll not beep. Contrast To adjust the dsplay Contrast, use the up or down arrow keys to hghlght Contrast, then press enter. Next, use the up or down arrow keys to adjust the contrast. The up arrow key wll darken the contrast and the down arrow key wll lghten the contrast. After adjustng the contrast, press enter to save and ext the Contrast adjustment opton. Emergency Contrast Adjustment If necessary, there s an alternate method of adjustng the contrast. To adjust the contrast, press and hold the menu key, then press the up arrow key to darken the contrast or press the down arrow key to lghten the contrast. Sensor Type Sensor Type sets the type of dssolved oxygen sensor beng used; ether Polarographc (black) or Galvanc (grey). The nstrument s Sensor Type must be confgured for the sensor nstalled. Falure to do ths may result n damage not covered under warranty. If you observe readngs very close to 0 or extremely hgh readngs,.e. 600%, the Sensor Type settng may be ncorrect. Use the up or down arrow keys to hghlght Sensor Type, then press enter to open a submenu. Hghlght the sensor type correspondng to the sensor nstalled on the cable and press enter to confrm. The enabled sensor type wll have an X n the box next to t. Next, use the down arrow key to hghlght the ESC Ext, then press enter to save changes and to close the sensor submenu. When Quck DO Cal s enabled, press and hold the calbraton key for 3 seconds whle n the Run screen. Next, hghlght Dssolved Oxygen and press enter to calbrate the DO sensor to the nstrument s barometer readng. For more nformaton on Quck DO Cal, see the Calbraton secton of ths manual. 10 11

The Pro2030 has two compatble sensors for use wth a feld cable: Polarographc Ths sensor has a black sensor body and s engraved wth the model number 200 Polarographc wll be abbrevated Polaro n the nstrument. Galvanc Ths sensor has a grey sensor body and s engraved wth the model number 200 In terms of physcal confguraton, membrane materal and general performance, YSI Professonal Seres Galvanc dssolved oxygen sensors are exactly lke the Professonal Seres Polarographc sensors. The advantage of usng Galvanc sensors s convenence. Galvanc sensors provde an nstant-on sensor wthout the need for warm-up tme but ths affects the lfe of the sensor. Polarographc sensors last longer and have a longer warranty but requre a 5-15 mnute warmup tme before use or calbraton. Membrane Type Membrane Type sets the type of membrane used on the dssolved oxygen sensor; ether 25 PE (Yellow) or 0 PE (blue). Use the up or down arrow keys to hghlght Membrane Type and press enter to open the membrane submenu. Hghlght the membrane type correspondng to the membrane nstalled on the sensor and press enter to confrm. The enabled membrane type wll have an X n the box next to t. An enabled dssolved oxygen unt wll have an X n the box next to t. Hghlght the ESC-Ext box along the bottom of the dsplay and press enter to save any changes and to close the DO unts submenu. There are three optons for dsplayng dssolved oxygen: mg/l wll show DO readngs n mllgrams per lter on a scale from 0 to 50 mg/l. ppm (parts per mllon) s equvalent to mg/l and wll show the DO readng on a scale from 0 to 50 ppm. % wll show DO readngs n a % saturaton from 0 to 500%. Ths value wll be expressed as %L when DO Local% s enabled. mg/l and ppm cannot be enabled and therefore dsplayed at the same tme. DO% and mg/l or ppm can be enabled and dsplayed smultaneously. Conductvty Unts (Cond. Unts) Hghlght Cond. Unts (Conductvty Unts) and press enter to open a submenu that allows you to select the conductvty unts to be dsplayed on the Run screen. Hghlght a unt and press enter to enable or dsable t. An enabled conductvty unt wll have an X n the box next to t. Hghlght the ESC-Ext box along the bottom of the dsplay and press enter to save any changes and to close the conductvty unts submenu. There are seven optons for dsplayng conductvty. Only two unts can be enabled at the same tme: COND-mS/cm dsplays conductvty n mllsemens per centmeter. COND-uS/cm dsplays conductvty n mcrosemens per centmeter. SPC-mS/cm dsplays Specfc Conductance n mllsemens per centmeter. Specfc Conductance s temperature compensated conductvty. SPC-uS/cm dsplays Specfc Conductance n mcrosemens per centmeter. Specfc Conductance s temperature compensated conductvty. Sal ppt dsplays salnty n parts per thousand. The salnty readng s calculated from the nstrument s conductvty and temperature values usng algorthms found n Standard Methods for the Examnaton of Water and Wastewater. TDS g/l dsplays Total Dssolved Solds n grams per lter. TDS s calculated from conductvty and temperature usng a user-selectable TDS constant. TDS mg/l dsplays Total Dssolved Solds n mllgrams per lter. TDS s calculated from conductvty and temperature usng a user-selectable TDS constant. Note: 1 mllsemen = 1,000 mcrosemens. Specfc Conductance The conductvty of a sample s hghly dependent on temperature, varyng as much as 3% for each change of one degree Celsus (temperature coeffcent = 3%/ C). In addton, the temperature coeffcent tself vares wth the nature of the onc speces present n the sample. Therefore, t s useful to compensate for ths temperature dependence n order to quckly compare conductvty readngs taken at dfferent temperatures. The Pro2030 can dsplay non-temperature compensated conductvty as well as temperature compensated Specfc Conductance. If Specfc Conductance s selected, the Pro2030 uses the temperature and conductvty values assocated wth each measurement to calculate a specfc conductance value compensated to a user selected reference temperature, see below. Addtonally, the user can select the temperature coeffcent from 0% to 4%. Usng the Pro2030 s default reference temperature and temperature coeffcent (25 C and 91%), the calculaton s carred out as follows: Specfc Conductance (25 C) = Conductvty of sample 1 + 0.0191 * (T - 25) T = Temperature of the sample n C Specfc Conductance Reference Temperature (SPC Ref. Temp.) SPC Ref. Temp. (Specfc Conductance Reference Temperature) s the reference temperature used to calculate Specfc Conductance. The reference temperature range s 15 and 25 C. The default value s 25 C. To change the reference temperature, hghlght SPC Ref. Temp. and press enter to open the submenu. Wth the reference temperature hghlghted, press enter to make the feld adjustable. Next, use the up or down arrow key to ncrease or decrease the value. Press enter to save the new reference temperature. Next, hghlght the ESC-Ext box and press enter to close the submenu. 14 15

Specfc Conductance Temperature Coeffcent (SPC %/ C) SPC %/ C (Specfc Conductance Temperature Coeffcent) s the temperature coeffcent used to calculate Specfc Conductance. The coeffcent range s 0.00 to 00. The default value s 91% whch s based on KCl standards. To change the temperature coeffcent, hghlght SPC %/ C and press enter to open the submenu. Wth the temperature coeffcent hghlghted, press enter to make the feld adjustable. Next, use the up or down arrow key to ncrease or decrease the value. Press enter to save the new coeffcent. Next, hghlght the ESC-Ext box and press enter to close the submenu. TDS Constant TDS Constant s a multpler used to calculate an estmated TDS (Total Dssolved Solds) value from conductvty. The multpler s used to convert Specfc Conductance n ms/cm to TDS n g/l. The Pro2030 s default value s 0.6 Ths multpler s hghly dependent on the nature of the onc speces present n the water sample. To be assured of moderate accuracy for the converson, you must determne a multpler for the water at your samplng ste. Use the followng procedure to determne the multpler for a specfc sample: Determne the specfc conductance of a water sample from the ste; Flter a sample of water from the ste; Completely evaporate the water from a carefully measured volume of the fltered sample to yeld a dry sold; Accurately wegh the remanng sold; Dvde the weght of the sold (n grams) by the volume of water used (n lters) to yeld the TDS value n g/l for ths ste; Dvde the TDS value n g/l by the specfc conductance of the water n ms/cm to yeld the converson multpler. Be certan to use the correct unts. If the nature of the onc speces at the ste changes between samplng studes, the TDS values wll be n error. TDS cannot be calculated accurately from specfc conductance unless the make-up of the chemcal speces n the water remans constant. Temperature Unts Hghlght Temperature Unts and press enter to open a submenu that allows you to change the temperature unts dsplayed on the Run screen. C a l b r a t o n Temperature All Pro2030 cables have bult-n temperature sensors. Temperature calbraton s not requred nor s t avalable. Barometer The barometer n the Pro2030 s calbrated at the factory. The barometer readng must be accurate to ensure accurate DO% calbratons and readngs. If the barometer requres an adjustment, use the up or down arrow keys to hghlght the barometer box along the bottom of the Run screen, then press enter. Next, use the up or down arrow keys to adjust the barometer readng to the local, true barometrc pressure. Contnually depress the up or down arrow key to change the barometer value more rapdly. Press enter to confrm and save the barometer adjustment. Do not use a barometer value that s corrected to sea level. Laboratory barometer readngs are usually true (uncorrected) values of ar pressure and can be used as s for barometer calbraton. Weather servce readngs are usually not true,.e., they are corrected to sea level, and therefore cannot be used untl they are uncorrected. An approxmate formula for ths uncorrecton s: True BP = [Corrected BP] [5 * (Local Alttude n ft above sea level/100)] Although the Pro2030 barometer range s 400.0 to 999.9 mmhg, you wll be unable to adjust the value across the entre range. The barometer s very accurate and the nstrument wll not allow you to adjust the value drastcally beyond what t s measurng. Dssolved Oxygen The dssolved oxygen sensor can be easly calbrated wth the press of two or three keys by enablng Quck DO Cal n the System Setup menu and followng the Quck DO Calbraton procedure. Ensure the barometer s readng accurately before performng a Quck DO Cal, DO% or DO Local% calbraton because these calbraton procedures use the barometer readng durng calbraton. If the barometer readng s erroneous durng a calbraton, the dssolved oxygen measurements wll be naccurate. 18 19

Quck DO Calbraton Perform ths calbraton procedure when Quck DO Calbraton s enabled n the System Setup menu. 7. It s not necessary to calbrate n both % and mg/l or ppm. Calbratng n % wll smultaneously calbrate mg/l and ppm and vce versa. YSI recommends calbratng the dssolved oxygen sensor n % for both ease and accuracy. Ensure the DO sensor has a good membrane wth electrolyte nstalled. A good membrane s free of wrnkles, tears, foulng and ar bubbles. Install the sensor guard onto the probe. Mosten the sponge n the grey calbraton/storage sleeve wth a small amount of clean water and nstall t over the sensor guard. The sponge should only be mostened and the calbraton/storage sleeve should not have excess water n t that could cause water droplets to get on the membrane. The storage sleeve ensures ventng to the atmosphere. Power the nstrument on and, f usng a Polarographc sensor, wat approxmately 5 to 15 mnutes for the storage chamber to become completely saturated and for the sensor to stablze. If usng a Galvanc sensor, wat approxmately 5 to 10 mnutes for the chamber to become completely saturated. Auto Shutoff should be dsabled or set to at least 20 mnutes. See System Setup menu for more nformaton on adjustng the Auto Shutoff. Ensure the barometer s readng accurately. If necessary, perform a barometer calbraton. Press and hold the Calbrate key for 3 seconds. Usng the up or down arrow key, hghlght Dssolved Oxygen and press enter. The Pro2030 wll ndcate Calbratng %DO on the dsplay. The nstrument wll automatcally calbrate the sensor to the current barometrc pressure. If DO Local% s enabled, the sensor wll calbrate to 100%. Ths may take up to 2 mnutes dependng on the age of the sensor and membrane. You can press the Cal key at ths tme to cancel the calbraton. Calbraton Successful wll dsplay for a few seconds to ndcate a successful calbraton and then the nstrument wll return to the Run screen. If the calbraton s unsuccessful, an error message wll dsplay on the screen. Press the Cal key to ext the error message and return to the Run screen. See the Troubleshootng gude for possble solutons. Calbratng n Percent (DO%) Perform ths calbraton procedure when Quck DO Cal s dsabled n the System Setup menu. Perform steps 1-4 of the Quck DO Calbraton procedure. Press and hold the Calbrate key for 3 seconds. Hghlght Dssolved Oxygen and press enter. Next, hghlght % and press enter. The Pro2030 wll dsplay the current DO% and temperature readngs along wth the % calbraton value. The % calbraton value s based on the barometer readng. See the Troubleshootng gude for possble solutons. and the default value for the Temperature Coeffcent s 91%/ C. It s mportant to note that the Temperature Coeffcent of a calbraton soluton s dependent on the contents of the soluton. Therefore, YSI recommends usng a traceable calbraton soluton made of KCl (potassum chlorde) when calbratng Specfc Conductance snce these solutons typcally have a Temperature Coeffcent of 91%/ C. Addtonally, be sure to enter the value of the soluton as t s lsted for 25 C when calbratng Specfc Conductance. Fll a clean contaner (.e. plastc cup or glass beaker) wth fresh, traceable conductvty calbraton soluton and place the sensor nto the soluton. The soluton must cover the holes of the conductvty sensor that are closest to the cable (fgure 8). Ensure the entre conductvty sensor s submerged n the soluton or the nstrument wll read approxmately half the expected value. Gently move the probe up and down to remove any ar bubbles from the conductvty sensor. Conductvty Calbraton Ensure the conductvty sensor s clean and dry before performng a conductvty, specfc conductance or salnty calbraton. It s not necessary to calbrate conductvty, specfc conductance and salnty. Calbratng one of these parameters wll smultaneously calbrate the others. YSI recommends calbratng specfc conductance for greatest ease. Fgure 8, soluton above two holes near cable. Turn the nstrument on and allow the conductvty and temperature readngs to stablze. If calbratng specfc conductance, enter the value lsted for 25 C. Depressng ether the up or down arrow key for 5 seconds wll move the changng dgt one place to the left. The Pro2030 wll remember the entered calbraton value and dsplay t the next tme a conductvty calbraton s performed. Press enter to complete the calbraton. Or, press Cal to cancel the calbraton and return to the Run screen. Calbraton Successful wll dsplay for a few seconds to ndcate a successful calbraton and then the nstrument wll return to the Run screen. See the Troubleshootng gude for possble solutons. Calbratng n Salnty Fll a clean contaner (.e. plastc cup or glass beaker) wth fresh, traceable salnty calbraton soluton and place the sensor nto the soluton. Turn the nstrument on and allow the conductvty and temperature readngs to stablze. Press the Cal key. Hghlght Conductvty and press enter. Next, hghlght Salnty and press enter. Use the up or down arrow key to adjust the value on the dsplay to match the value of the salnty soluton. Depressng ether the up or down arrow key for 5 seconds wll move the changng dgt one place to the left. The Pro2030 wll remember the entered calbraton value and dsplay t the next tme a salnty calbraton s performed. Press enter to complete the calbraton. Or, press Cal to cancel the calbraton and return to the Run screen. Calbraton Successful wll dsplay for a few seconds to ndcate a successful calbraton and then the nstrument wll return to the Run screen. If the calbraton s unsuccessful, an error message wll dsplay on the screen. Press the Cal key to ext the calbraton error message and return to the Run screen. See the Troubleshootng gude for possble solutons. Takng Measurements Before takng measurements, be sure the nstrument has been calbrated to ensure the most accurate readngs. Turn the nstrument on and wat 5-15 mnutes f usng a polarographc sensor. Install the sensor guard to protect the sensor and membrane. Place the probe n the sample to be measured and gve the probe a quck shake to release any ar bubbles. Be sure the conductvty sensor s completely submerged n the sample. The two holes near the cable should be covered by the sample for accurate conductvty readngs (fgure 8). Allow the temperature readngs to stablze. Next, str the probe n the sample to overcome the strrng dependence of the dssolved oxygen sensor. The dssolved oxygen sensor requres at least 6 nches (16 cm) per second of water movement f usng the yellow membrane and 3 nches (7.62 cm) per second of water movement f usng the blue membrane. The requred sample movement can be acheved by the natural flow of the stream, physcally strrng the probe n the sample or a combnaton of the two. Once the values plateau and stablze you may record the measurement and/or store the data set. The dssolved oxygen readng wll drop over tme f strrng or movement s ceased. If placng the DO sensor nto a stream or fast flowng waters t s best to place t perpendcular to the flow and not facng nto the flow. If usng the DO sensor near an aeraton devce, t s helpful to make sure ar bubbles do not burst on the membrane snce that may cause unstable DO readngs. You should be able to prevent ths by pontng the sensor upwards so t s facng the sky and twst tyng, zp tyng or rubber bandng the bulkhead to the cable. Essentally, makng a smple curve to the cable wthout bendng or breakng the cable wll allow you to lower the sensor nto the aerated sample whle the sensor ponts skyward and ar bubbles are no longer burstng on the membrane surface. Savng and Vewng Data The Pro2030 can store 50 data sets n non-volatle memory for later vewng. A data set ncludes the values currently on the dsplay,.e. temperature, dssolved oxygen and two conductvty parameters. Each data pont s referenced wth a data set number, 01 through 50. Savng Data The Pro2030 can not communcate to a PC va a Pro Seres communcatons saddle. Connectng the Pro2030 to a communcaton saddle may cause erratc nstrument behavor. 24 25

From the Run screen, use the up or down arrow keys to hghlght the Save box and press enter to save the current readngs. After accessng the bottom functons, hghlght the Data box and press enter to regan access to vewng data. The data set dsplayed s ndcated by the data set number, 01 through 50. Erasng Data Whle vewng saved data, press the enter key to access the functon boxes at the bottom of the dsplay. Next, use the up or down arrow keys to hghlght Erase, then press enter. The nstrument wll gve you the opton to erase one data set or all data sets (fgure 11). 26 27

C a r e, M a n t e n a n c e a n d Storage Ths secton descrbes the proper procedures for care, mantenance and storage of the sensors. The goal s to maxmze ther lfetme and mnmze down-tme assocated wth mproper sensor usage. General Mantenance General Mantenance - Gasket and O-Rngs The nstrument utlzes a gasket and o-rngs as seals to prevent water from enterng the battery compartment and the sensor port. Followng the recommended procedures wll help keep the nstrument functonng properly. Fgure 11, Erase data mode. Use the up or down arrow key to select Erase Data Set, Erase All Sets or the ESC- Ext functon box, then press enter to confrm. Select ESC-Ext and press enter to ext Erase mode wthout erasng any data. Select Erase Data Set and press enter to erase the data set that was dsplayed before enterng Erase mode. For example, f data set 12 was dsplayed before enterng erase mode, and Erase Data Set s selected, Data Set 12 wll be erased from memory and the data sets AFTER that number wll move up to keep them sequental. For example, f there are15 records and number 12 s erased then 13 becomes 12, 14 becomes 13, and 15 becomes 1 The nstrument wll return to Data mode after erasng one data set. Select Erase All Data Sets and press enter to clear the Pro2030 memory and return to Data mode. Extng Data Mode Whle n Data mode, press enter to access the bottom functons. Next, hghlght the ESC-Ext box and press enter to return to the Run screen. If the gasket, o-rngs and sealng surfaces are not mantaned properly, t s possble that water can enter the battery compartment and/or sensor port of the nstrument. If water enters these areas, t can severely damage the battery termnals or sensor port causng loss of battery power, false readngs and corroson to the sensors or battery termnals. Therefore, when the battery compartment ld s removed, the gasket that provdes the seal should be carefully nspected for contamnaton (.e. debrs, grt, etc.) and cleaned wth water and mld detergent f necessary. The same nspecton should be made of the o-rngs assocated wth the dssolved oxygen sensor connector f and when the DO sensor s removed. If no drt or damage to the o-rngs s evdent, then they should be lghtly greased wth the o-rng grease provded wthout removng them from ther groove. However, f there s any ndcaton of damage, the sensor o-rng should be replaced wth an dentcal o-rng. To remove the DO sensor o-rngs: Use a small, flat-bladed screwdrver or smlar blunt-tpped tool to remove the o-rng from ts groove near the sensor connector. Check the o-rng and the groove for any excess grease or contamnaton. If contamnaton s evdent, clean the o-rng and nearby plastc parts wth lens cleanng tssue or equvalent lntfree cloth. Alcohol can be used to clean the plastc parts, but use only water and mld detergent on the o-rng tself. Also, nspect the o-rngs for ncks and mperfectons. Usng alcohol on o-rngs may cause a loss of elastcty and may promote crackng. Do not use a sharp object to remove the o-rngs. Damage to the o-rng or the groove may result. 28 29

Before re-nstallng the DO sensor o-rngs, make sure to use a clean workspace, clean hands and avod contact wth anythng that may leave fbers on the o-rng or grooves. Even a very small amount of contamnaton (har, grt, etc.) may create a path for water ntruson or contamnaton. To re-nstall the DO sensor o-rngs: Place a small amount of o-rng grease between your thumb and ndex fnger. (More grease s not better!) Draw the o-rng through the grease whle pressng the fngers together to place a very lght coverng of grease on the o-rng. Place the o-rng nto ts groove ensurng that t does not twst or roll. Use the prevously grease-coated fnger to once agan lghtly go over the surface of the o-rng. Do not over-grease the o-rngs. The excess grease may collect grt partcles that can compromse the seal. Excess grease can also cause the waterproofng capabltes of the o-rng to dmnsh, potentally causng leaks. If excess grease s present, remove t usng a lens cloth or lnt-free cloth. General Mantenance - DO Sensor Port It s mportant that the entre sensor connector end be dry when nstallng, removng or replacng the sensor. Ths wll prevent water from enterng the port. Once the DO sensor s removed, examne the connector nsde the port. If any mosture s present, use compressed ar to completely dry the connector or let t ar dry. If the connector s corroded, contact YSI Techncal Support or the YSI authorzed dealer where you purchased the nstrument. Sensor Mantenance - Conductvty The openngs that allow sample access to the conductvty electrodes should be cleaned regularly. The small cleanng brush ncluded n the Mantenance Kt s ntended for ths purpose. Dp the brush n clean water and nsert t nto each hole 10 to 12 tmes. In the event that deposts have formed on the electrodes, t may be necessary to use a mld detergent (laboratory grade soap or bathroom foamng tle cleaner) wth the brush. Rnse thoroughly wth clean water, then check the response and accuracy of the conductvty cell wth a calbraton soluton. Sensor Mantenance - Dssolved Oxygen Membrane Cap Installaton The DO sensor (Polarographc or Galvanc) s shpped wth a protectve red cap that needs to be removed before usng. Remove the red protectve cap or used cap membrane and replace t wth a new cap membrane followng these nstructons: Remove the sensor guard to access the sensor. Remove the protectve red cap by pullng t straght off the sensor. Or, unscrew and remove the used cap membrane by holdng the sensor whle unscrewng the cap membrane. Dscard the used cap membrane. Thoroughly rnse the sensor tp wth dstlled or deonzed water. Remove sensors upsde down (facng the ground) to help prevent water from enterng the port upon removal. Fll a new cap membrane 3/4 full wth electrolyte soluton that has been prepared accordng to the drectons on the bottle. Be very careful not to touch the membrane surface. Sensor Mantenance Sensor Mantenance - Temperature You must keep the temperature sensor free of buld up. Other than that, no addtonal mantenance s requred. A toothbrush can be used to scrub the temperature sensor f needed. 30 31 Lghtly tap the sde of the cap membrane to release bubbles that may be trapped.
